When Katie Crutchfield finished making Tigers Blood, her sixth album as Waxahatchee, she was struck by a strange, new sensation: It was done, and it was good.
“In the past, I’ve anxiously listened to my records before they come out a lot, searching for mistakes — and then of course finding them because I’m searching for them,” she says with a laugh. This time, she adds, “Every word is in the correct place. Every melody is just right. There’s no question marks. There’s no need to obsess over every little detail.

You didn’t like it. You really, really didn’t like it. In fact, based on the poll that TVLine ran Thursday evening, more than half of you hated the fact that Grey’s Anatomy dealt with original cast member Justin Chambers’ abrupt departure by having Alex leave bride Jo to form a family with former wife Izzie and their surprise twins (read full recap).
I, on the other hand, bought it, especially considering the limited options that the long-running ABC drama had at its disposal. With Chambers unavailable to be seen, only heard, Ep Krista Vernoff & Co. could’ve written...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Thursday’s Alex-centric episode of Grey’s Anatomy. If you’d prefer to watch first, read later, scrub out (and get the tissues).
From the start, the deck was stacked against Thursday’s pivotal episode of Grey’s Anatomy. How, we wondered, could the show possibly craft a satisfying send-off for original cast member Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev when it didn’t have the actor on board to play it? Could it even be done without scenes in which we saw the beloved doctor say goodbye to his bride, Jo, and his person, Meredith? Well, now...

Luca Cruz knows how to cruise!
The 5-year-old son of Younger star Hilary Duff looked like an old pro out on the water in a video his mom posted to Instagram Tuesday, holding onto a cord and balancing on an inner tube as a boat pulls him along.
Perhaps the best part of the sweet clip? The moment Luca shows off his one-handed skills to wave at Duff, 29, and blow her an adorable kiss.

Like many children growing up in the 1960s, Kenneth Hall loved monsters. Ever since he was a toddler, his mother — who was an especially big fan of Vincent Price — took him and his brother to see films like The Brides Of Dracula, Curse Of The Werewolf, and The Pit And The Pendulum. And that was all it took. At age 10, Hall discovered Famous Monsters of Filmland, and with the help of the trusty TV Guide, he and his brother made a point to watch as many of the films they read about as they could, even if it meant sneaking out of bed and staying up late to catch a showing of The Deadly Mantis. Like many Monster Kids of his time, there was a now-or-never mentality that came with a lack of home video, but growing up in Jacksonville, Fl did give Hall an extra advantage. It was the...

Yet another film from my youth and one that I distinctly remember from the pages of The Dark Side magazine (back in my pre-internet days when I used to buy horror mags religiously), Dr. Alien is a film that, despite my knowledge of it, I have yet to see. So this new DVD from 88 Films is a welcome addition to my ever-growing B-movie library.
After Ms. Xenobia takes over Dr. Ackerman’s science class following an “incident” the puts Ackerman in the hospital, she persuades a nerdish Wesley Littlejohn to participate in some vitamin research she and her assistant Drax are conducting. Suddenly Wesley becomes very desirable to all the ladies – including Ms. Xenobia herself – despite the fleshy antenna that grows out of his head when he’s excited!

From Jason Paul Collum, director of October Moon and November Son, comes a documentary detailing the rise and fall of the 80's Scream Queen era in which his mentor Brinke Stevens (Haunting Fear) will be partaking with a bevy of familiar faces from the 80's horror era in:
Screaming in High Heels: The Rise & Fall of the Scream Queen Era
During the video boom of the 1980s, three ladies (and a small group of energetic filmmakers) headlined upwards of 10 low-budget horror films per year, fending off men in rubber monster suits, pubescent teen boys, and deadly showers. As a result of their unintended cult fame, they were flown all over the world, dined with President Regan, and built mini-empires of their own. Then it all came crashing down. This documentary follows these accidental actresses on how smart they were to play stupid.
In addition to Brinke Stevens, other participants...

Our second stab at the Oscars contains make-up effects and score (read part 1 here). The make-up effects, followed by the visual effects and technical awards, remain my favorite parts of the show; here you got to see your heroes: Rick Baker, Howard Berger, Chris Walas or Rob Bottin in the audience. Even the great Stan Winston could have been out there, back in the day. Though best known for his “visual effects” wins—he brought home an Oscar for best make-up in 1991 for Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Here genre fans can rejoice, Greg Cannom brought home the gold, again, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cannom, a genre elder, worked alongside (just to name a few) Fincher, Coppola, Landis, Dante, Blatty, and Cohen creating all sorts of character and creature make-ups.
