Over a year into Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, she has found ways to keep the show fresh and new for those who have been waiting since she opened in Phoenix, Arizona in March 2023 to see her. Since the tour began in the United States last year, Swift has released two rerecorded albums — Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in addition to a brand-new double album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Right as she picked the tour back up in 2024, she flew from Tokyo, Japan to Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada (where she had previously performed) to watch her beau Travis Kelce and his NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

When images started to surface of Jake Gyllenhaal filming a UFC fight scene for the Road House remake, audiences got a glimpse at how the Doug Liman film for Amazon would differentiate itself from the original Patrick Swayze film from 1989. The consensus was that making Dalton a former professional fighter was an interesting twist that wouldn’t make the remake a complete copy of the Swayze film. However, the die-hard fans would remain skeptical. Now that the film has been released on Prime Video (along with the controversy of not being given a theatrical window), many agree that it doesn’t have the heart of the original, but there is still a division among the viewers on who may have still found it serviceable.
Despite the mixed reception, the remake was a big hit for Amazon MGM and a sequel had already been greenlit. Along with Road House‘s success,...

Update, 12 Pm: Another record for Taylor Swift. Her Tortured Poets Department has become the first album in Spotify history to surpass one billion streams in a single week — and it happened in just five days. The previous album to reach the most streams in a week also came from Swift, with her last release Midnights in October 2022. There was no specific number of streams released by Spotify at the time, but Swift apparently broke her own record with Tortured Poets. Publicly available Spotify data estimated the Midnights figure to be in the 700,000s.
Update, April 20: Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has set yet another Spotify record, becoming the most-streamed album in a single day, reportedly exceeding 200 million streams.
Swift now has the top three most-streamed albums in a single day, with previous records held by Midnights and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Rhett & Link‘s Mythical Entertainment has tapped Westbrook general manager Jacob Moncrief as its new COO, and has named former COO Brian Flanagan president.
Flanagan, who joined Mythical in 2016 and was its first COO, will “remain closely involved in all aspects of the core operating business” as president, but will “increase his focus” on Mythical’s long-term goal of being a household name, the company says.
He’ll be spearheading things like Mythical’s “content-commerce-community flywheel,” investment in up-and-coming creators via its $5 million creator accelerator, and its overall global growth strat.
In a statement, Flanagan said this expansion of Mythical’s executive team “signals our ambition to be the definitive television studio for the internet generation.” He added that Moncrief is “a producer and operator of the highest order and we are lucky to have his many talents powering our growth.”

Justin Timberlake performed a surprise concert in Las Vegas Wednesday night, appearing onstage for just the second time in the weeks since Britney Spears’ bombshell memoir put him back in the headlines this fall.

Dua Lipa joined Seth Meyers for the latest installment of the “Day Drinking” segment from his Late Night show.
The two “enjoyed” cocktails and played drinking games inspired by “Houdini.” Later, they played a game called “Idgaf” in which they answered an embarrassing question or took a shot, leading Meyers to name John Oliver as his least favorite late night host and confirm he has a favorite child. Meanwhile, Dua revealed her favorite Albanian swear sword and lamented about how fashion designers next think about the “drunk girls” when creating outfits.
The segment arrives as Dua Lipa is on the tails of her latest release, “Houdini,” a colorful pop track produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. The track was named Consequence’s Song of the Week when it debuted, and arrives ahead of a full, psychedelia-inspired album due sometime in 2024, which will feature more contributions from Parker.

Candiani Denim has unveiled the first jeanswear brand with natural, biodegradable yet stretchy fabric ever produced and distributed to date. Coreva Design, the name of the new line, takes advantage of the elastic properties of a plant material, derived from natural rubber, to provide comfort without having to resort to the use of synthetic yarns. It’s a stretch denim canvas that, by not using plastics, reduces its ecological impact at the end of its life by degrading in less than four months instead of 200 or more years.
The ambassador of the new brand is U.S. singer-songwriter LP, who topped international charts with the 2015 single “Lost On You.”
“I haven’t eaten meat for over 20 years. I never wear fur. I only own one naturally electric car. When I dress I try to make a conscious and sustainable choice. I have to admit that I do wear some leather from time to time.

David Grann's "Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI" is one of the finest nonfiction books of the 21st century. His account of a vile criminal conspiracy wherein members of the Osage tribe, who'd been awarded highly lucrative headrights to the oil deposits discovered on their land, were murdered by white Oklahomans is as absorbing as it is infuriating. Grann does a masterful job of blending the story of the Osage with the procedural tale of the investigation by the United States' newly formed Bureau of Investigation (soon to be the FBI). It's never less than gripping, but, even with the conviction of William Hale, who orchestrated the murder of his nephew's Osage wife and many of her family members, you're left fuming at the abject evil of these predators.
Grann's story is primarily driven by Tom White, a former Texas Ranger...

Unlike the songwriter-focused Grammy for Song of the Year, Record of the Year aims to award the performance and recorded aspects of a song, like the mixing, mastering, and producing. But while the award doesn’t go to the songwriters, the chances of winning one award are very high when you win the other. This year a select group of 10 year-defining hits from multiple genres are battling it out in what could be a race of familiar favorites versus fresh successes. Let’s take a look.
This award definitely has its clear favorites. The biggest hit of the year is always a factor here, so it’s safe to say one of the front-runners is Harry Styles’s “As It Was.” The track is right up the Grammys’ alley, being a pop-rock jam that will appeal to most sectors of the Recording Academy. Styles is also not unknown to voters,...

Katy Perry isn’t known for being a Pikachu whisperer. Nor did Liam Payne make his millions as a sports aficionado. However, Universal Music Group (Umg) sees the value in both of these alter-egos.
On Wednesday, the company announced three separate partnerships with big names in the games, sports, and fitness industries — the majority of which were spearheaded by an internal division called Universal Music Group for Brands (Umgb).

We don't really cover the Grammys here at Tfe as it's rather beyond our wheelhouse but to give you a general sense of that awards landscape, Taylor Swift ("Folklore"), and Dua Lipa ("Future Nostalgia") dominated and Beyoncé, too, despite the lack of a new album. Everyone's fav obsession at the moment, BTS, disappointingly scored only one nomination for Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Dynamite". Insane that that wasn't up for Record of the Year.

But as we do we focus on categories that fall more under our umbrella here. So after the jump the categories for visual media as well as actors and composers who work primarily in film and television who are up for Grammys this year.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards saw Post Malone emerged with a whopping nine total trophies, however, the show itself wasn’t quite as successful in the ratings department.
A total of around 3.6 million total viewers tuned in on NBC, which looks to be a substantial 55% dip from the previous edition. Its 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 was only enough for fourth place on the night, and also represents a new all-time low for the music show.
However, those historically small numbers aren’t really all that surprising given that awards shows are tumbling almost across the board of late. For instance, earlier this year the Oscars fell 20%, the Emmys around 9% and the ACM Awards over 30%. It’s also worth noting that due to Covid-19, the Billboard Music Awards were shifted by more than five months from their traditional May broadcast date, which likely played some part in contributing to drastic fall.

Who doesn’t love a tale of redemption and recovery?”American Idol” hopeful Dillon James might be just 26, but he has gone to homeless hell and back after overcoming his addiction to alcohol and drugs. With an ornate tattoo of Jesus Christ that encases his entire torso, this construction worker from Bakersfield, Calif., has made a definite commitment to cleaning up his act.
When we first met Dillon during the audition rounds, he told the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan that he had a good home life growing up. But when he got older, “I met my trials and tribulations.” Now that the singer is sober, he is “trying to do better than what I was doing before.”
When he was at his worse, Dillon confessed, “I lost pretty much lost everything. I found myself on the streets with no money.” Instead of going off the deep end,...

The 2021 Grammy Awards eligibility period started earlier than ever before, September 1, 2019. So who will be nominated for top prizes, and who will win when trophies are handed out? Scroll down for our list of artists and albums to watch for, updating throughout the season as new albums drop.
The eligibility period for the Grammys used to be October 1 through September 30, but they changed things for the 2020 awards. The Oscars decided to move up their calendar so that their awards ceremony landed on the first week of February, which is usually the Grammys’ turf. So the Grammys decided to move up their telecast into January, and they moved back their eligibility cutoff by one month.
Now the eligibility period is September 1 through August 31, so before the 2020 Grammys even aired we already had potential 2021 contenders all over the charts, like Post Malone‘s “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” Camila Cabello‘s “Romance” and Harry Styles‘s “Fine Line,...

Shania Twain doesn’t take her voice for granted. The country superstar almost lost her ability to sing after being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2003.
She first thought something was wrong when she couldn’t project her voice. “I couldn’t call out for the dog,” she says on Thursday’s episode of “The Big Ticket,” Variety and iHeart’s weekly podcast. “I wasn’t heard very well on the phone. I couldn’t speak in loud environments.”
She initially believed that her issue was fatigue because she had just come off tour and was a new mom, but the problem persisted. “No voice doctor could explain,” she said. “They were like, ‘It’s probably psychological.’ I didn’t buy it, and I was sure it was a physiological thing.”
It would be seven years before she would finally get a proper diagnosis from Dr. Robert Sataloff, a specialist at...

A far cry from the previous four movies that Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have made together (the two men Voltron-ing into a single creative entity that will henceforth be referred to as “WahlBerg”), the hilariously titled “Spenser Confidential” is a high-testosterone action thriller about a red-blooded, blue-collared, perpetually open-mouthed American patriot who decides to take matters into his own hands when some bad guys besmirch the good name of these United States. Just kidding — the only significant difference between this chaotic dreck and the likes of “Mile 22” is that “Spenser Confidential” is going straight to Netflix.
Beyond that — and maybe a surprising cameo from Post Malone — . By now, WahlBerg making a “funny” crime movie about an aggro ex-cop trying to sniff out corruption in South Boston is like if Wes Anderson made a “Succession”-esque screwball comedy about an inbred family jostling for control over a Bavarian tweed factory.

It’s past midnight at Sza’s home in Los Angeles when she disappears to retrieve her set of sound bowls. There’s a car arriving in just under three hours to take her to the airport, where she’ll be catching a 6 a.m. flight to Hawaii, but she’s not concerned about her suitcase. “I’m not packing shit but T-shirts,” she says giddily. Kauai, where she will go on to write at Rick Rubin’s house for the next six days, “is a very healing place. It fits my brain.

Look/If you had/One shot/Or one opportunity/to totally make up for that 2003 thing/Would you capture it/Or just let it slip? Eminem chose “capture” for his surprise make-good Oscars moment, and that decision made “Lose Yourself” skyrocket all the way to No. 1 on the iTunes charts — 18 years after the song’s initial release.
Marshall Mathers rocked the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday, 17 years after the emcee skipped the event where he was awarded Best Original Song for the “8 Mile” hit. Find out why Eminem no-showed those Oscars here.

With inventory beyond sold-out and the cost of 30-second spots soaring to as high as $5.6 million just to secure ad time, the demand for Super Bowl advertising continues to reach new peaks in an otherwise fractured media marketplace. And music licensing is following suit, with multiple synchs surpassing the $1 million threshold, and an all-star lineup of musicians taking leading on-camera roles in many of the most-anticipated spots.
Music publishers, who are involved in many of the Super Bowl synch negotiations on behalf of songwriters and music copyrights, are reporting healthy volume as of Friday afternoon. Universal Music Publishing Group has secured 12 synchs in national spots that will air post-kickoff, while Sony/Atv has 10, BMG has four and Abkco has one major synch: Pepsi Zero Sugar’s hip-hop remake of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” with Missy Elliott and H.E.R. It’s not often that an artist’s debut album goes on to be the most commercially successful album of the year. In fact, the last time it happened was with 50 Cent’s 2003 album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, which he released after a series of successful mixtapes. Since then, the Number One spot has primarily gone to members of music’s top 1 percent — the Drakes, Taylor Swifts, Ed Sheerans and Adeles.
But in 2019, teenager Billie Eilish shook up the status quo, often without raising her voice above a whisper.

Harry Styles‘s second solo album “Fine Line” dropped on December 13, too late to compete at the 2020 Grammys but certainly with a shot at the 2021 awards. It earned strong reviews and had the third biggest debut of the year on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Might he be setting the stage to be the first One Direction member to be awarded by the recording academy?
“Fine Line” scored 76 on MetaCritic, a step up from the 68 he got for his self-titled solo debut in 2017. Reviewers have said that he has “grown as an artist” with “much improved” songwriting and “vocal nuance.” He “has chosen to use his superpowers for good and not evil.” And his throwback to an era of classic rock may be more palatable to the older and more conservative recording academy than his boy band pop of yore.

I’ve just woke up to some sad news this morning that Cliff Robertson, the classic Hollywood actor who immortalised Peter Parker’s inspirational father figure Uncle Ben in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, passed away yesterday, just one day after his 88th birthday.
Today, September 11th 2011, was the day I was to run a few articles trying to remember those who we lost on that most dreadful of days ten years ago but now my prayers are also with Robertson’s family as I recall the amazing career he had.
Ironically, Robertson & The Twin Towers can be remembered together in one movie. In Sydney Pollack’s excellent conspiracy thriller Three Days of the Condor (1975), Robertson plays the Deputy Director of CIA New York City who is making Robert Redford’s life hell and his base is an office high-up in the World Trade Center.
