March 8, 1971, Madison square garden. No single event even to this date, not super bowl, not the world series or NBA playoffs had the viewing audience as did the "fight of the century", between Muhammad Ali and then heavyweight champion Joe Frazier. This was truly a global event. In Ireland the IRA (Irish Republican Army) suspended hostilities so the fight could be watched. In North Vietnam it was viewed. And the fight very much lived up to its billing, (fight of the century) with Joe Frazier winning.
