This is truly a memorable film. I could barely watch it; and when the woman in black showed up, I had to close my eyes. There are only two other movies of this type, so scary they are nearly impossible to watch on the first viewing. The first is "The Changeling" with George C. Scott, and the second is "The Haunting", 1963 version. I taped "Woman in Black" in 1989 from PBS, and it's a good thing because I would like to watch it again since I know a little more what to expect, but haven't gotten the courage to. I did manage to get through it on the first viewing, but it was tough; it almost caused physical pain. The entire film has an aura of menace, and with the atmosphere of dread that hangs over it, you don't even need to see the Woman in Black. You continually expect her to show up any minute, and that anticipation is worse than anything I've ever experienced, except for the two films referenced above. If you can find this, watch it if you dare. It won't ever leave your memory.
