Barry Manilow is standing poolside at his Palm Springs home, a spectacular, eight-bedroom hillside villa with far-reaching views of the Coachella Valley. He’s taller than one might expect — a little over 6 feet — and rail-thin, which makes him appear even taller. Manilow is relaxed this morning, tapping one spindly leg to a tune wafting through the speakers — not one of those easy-listening grooves that made him a music superstar, but a thumping slice of techno called “Love Regenerator,” by Calvin Harris. He has an entire Spotify library of that stuff. Manilow, it turns out, loves dance music.
At 80 — he reached the milestone last June — Manilow is coming off of one of the busiest stretches of a consistent, six-decade career. In September, he played his 637th show at Las Vegas’ Westgate Resort Hotel — beating Elvis’ record of 636 performances on that very stage (when it was the Las Vegas Hilton) back in...

“Last Christmas” by Wham! has made pop history, topping the Christmas chart for the first time since it was released almost four decades ago.
The popular song, written by George Michael when he was a teenager and one half of the pop duo with his schoolfriend Andrew Ridgeley, has been a staple of the Christmas charts ever since, but never made it to the festive number spot before this year.
The song, whose official video you can watch below, was released in the winter of 1984, but was famously held off the number one spot that year by the UK’s charity anthem “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” sung by the collected efforts of Band Aid. At the time, George Michael, who also sang on the charity song, decided to donate all the profits of “Last Christmas” to the Band Aid...

The director of 1993’s enduring classic Fire in the Sky, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Robert Lieberman passed away at the age of 75 earlier this month after a battle with cancer.
Many horror fans consider Fire in the Sky to be the most terrifying alien abduction movie ever made, with one scene in particular being among the scariest in the genre’s history.
Released in theaters in 1993, Fire in the Sky was based on Travis Walton’s book The Walton Experience, which itself was based on Walton’s real-life tales of alien abduction.
In the film’s most harrowing scene, Walton (played by D.B. Sweeney) is experimented on by a group of aliens, first emerging from a slimy cocoon and then being subjected to various forms of extraterrestrial torture. It’s a sequence that once seen is never unseen, frequently popping up on lists of the scariest scenes in horror...

Did anyone see that twist coming?! Isabella's past is more layered and shocking than we thought.
One of her darkest secrets was revealed on Cruel Summer Season 2 Episode 5.
This twist is the reveal that changes everything we thought we knew of her past. This is a dangerous pattern or a massive red herring to throw us off the real suspect list.
"All I Want for Christmas" was an Isabella-heavy episode. As one of the leads in the murder mystery and the friendship, essential pieces to the puzzle were answered about this new arrival in Chatham.
I loved that this chapter was essential to the overall story; no scene or moment was wasted.
Do you trust Trevor after his surprise trip to Chatham?
I'm on the fence. Trevor gave off major suspicious vibes, like his arrival wasn't only about seeing Isabella because he had feelings for her. My gut is...

“The Bear” isn’t giving up its crown as one of TV’s most stressful shows.
In Season 2, the FX “comedy” cranks up the ante with Episode 6, “Fishes,” an hourlong flashback to Christmas at the Berzattos written by Joanna Calo and creator Christopher Storer. Almost three decades since its release, East 17 song “Stay Another Day” has remained a regular Christmas fixture.
The track swiftly became a festive favourite after it was released in 1994, with many assuming the words, sung by Brian Harvey and his bandmates, to be about a failed relationship.
However, the song, which was written by Tony Mortimer, actually has a much deeper meaning.
Speaking to Songwriting Magazine in 2016, Mortimer revealed: “I had the melody and the chords and I was looking for a story to go on top of it.”
He decided to base the lyrics on a very sad event from his life.
“It was based on my brother’s suicide and losing someone,” he explained. “What would you do if you had one more day with a loved one?”
Mortimer continued: “Over time I started to put together the story and I wrote it in a different way to...

The co-writer behind Mariah Carey’s festive hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” has claimed her story about the song is a “tall tale”.
Producer Walter Afanasieff discussed the beloved holiday tune during Thursday’s (22 December) episode of the Hot Takes & Deep Dives podcast.
Speaking to host Jess Rothschild, Afanasieff claimed that he and Carey were “on the same page” about how to write the song. However, it wasn’t until 10 years ago that an “alternate story” was shared about the songwriting process.
“When she started to hint at the fact that, ‘Oh, I wrote that song when I was a little girl!’ But why weren’t you saying that for 12 or 13 or 15 years prior to that?” he said on the podcast. “So it just sort of developed in her mind.”
Over the years, Carey has claimed to have come up with the concept of the song when she was a child.

In what has become an annual tradition, Mariah Carey has returned to number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with her holiday standard “All I Want for Christmas is You.” In the process she continues to make Billboard history, either setting or extending records along the way. Read more about this week’s Hot 100 here at Billboard.com.
Over the course of four years, “All I Want for Christmas” has now spent 10 total weeks at number-one. It’s the only song that has reached number-one during four separate chart runs. It also gives Carey the longest span of number-one hits in history. Her first chart-topper, her debut single “Vision of Love,” ruled 32 years and five months ago. It’s also the longest span for a single song at number-one (a little over three years from 2019 to 2022).

Ticketmaster has a new plan to sell the remaining Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets.
The ticketing company will reportedly use an older fan club ticketing system to sell the remaining 170,000 tickets that takes the queue out of the process.
This move comes after Ticketmaster officially cancelled the public sale for Swift’s 2023 tour.
General tickets were scheduled to go on sale in November, however, Ticketmaster announced the cancellation the day before.
“Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift The Eras Tour has been cancelled,” Ticketmaster wrote on Twitter.
The news came shortly after the ticket seller said that a “staggering number of bot attacks” led to their website crashing when tickets first went on sale.
Now, as per Billboard, Ticketmaster is set to use Ticketstoday – a company owned by Ticketmaster that operates the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Request platform.

The performance at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada was Carey’s first Christmas concert since the start of the pandemic.
Introducing her 11-year-old daughter Monroe, Carey said “This is my baby girl here”.
It’s clear that Monore has inherited her mother’s vocal capabilities, with the crowd letting out a loud roar when she began to sing.
“Eleven years ago, I got the greatest gift,” Carey said of her daughter.
“You know what, I don’t have birthdays, but the birthing day was the greatest gift ever, when I had my twins Roc and Roe, and once again I’d like to introduce you to my daughter, Monroe.”

Mariah Carey has risen to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts once again with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and unseated Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” after a six-week streak at the pinnacle of the list.
In fact, it took the combined powers of Carey’s holiday classic and Christmas to knock Swift off. The top four spots were taken by Christmas songs. Following Carey was Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” and Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”
The fifth spot went to “Creepin'” by Metro Boomin, The Weeknd and 21 Savage followed by Swift that dropped five spots to land at No. 6 for the chart dated Dec. 17, 2022, after spending its first six weeks on top.

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
During the 1990s, Nielsen appeared in a litany of gloriously silly flicks like "Spy Hard," "Wrongfully Accused," "Repossessed" (a classic), "Dracula: Dead and Loving It," two of the "Scary Movie" sequels, and many others. Not all of these films were good, but...

Christmas-themed properties are lucrative. It has been a long-running joke that crooner Michael Bublé only surfaces during the holidays when his Christmas songs make regular rotations, and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas has found recent infamous popularity. Enough to have the pop diva declare herself “Queen of Christmas.” Recently, with films like Violent Night and The Mean One, crossing Christmas with violence and action looks to turn traditional classics on its side.
One such film audiences have to look forward to for the next holiday season is the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans yule-tide action film Red One. Johnson, ever the serial promoter, has recently posted pictures via his Twitter of some behind-the-scenes photos, which feature a scene of him riding a large vehicle and running down a platform before the environment has been added. Twist off, Chubby Checker: Your double run just got lapped.
The yuletide is high for Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday staple “All I Want for Christmas,” which moves into the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 today — becoming the first song to top that tally in three separate chart runs.
The hitmaking singer’s track breaks its tie with Checker’s smash “The Twist,” which hit No. 1 in 1960 and returned to the summit two years later. “All I Want for Christmas” first climbed to No. 1 in 2019, made it back there last year and moves up from No. 2 this week to complete the feat. All told, it has amassed six weeks at No. 1.
The track also nudged Checker from another Hot 100 record as it now boasts the longest spans between chart-topping runs. “The Twist” did it in one year and three months-plus.
Carey also extends her personal chart record of most total weeks at No.

Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas is You” has become such a durable holiday standard that the single finally reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, which was 25 years after the single’s release. It spent three weeks on top during the 2019-2020 Christmas period, and she’s already racing back up the charts as the 2020-2021 holiday season approaches. Could the song top the charts often enough for her to eventually reclaim her record for the longest-running number-one hit in history?
Carey previously held that record for decades: “One Sweet Day,” her duet with Boyz II Men, spent an unprecedented 16 weeks atop the Hot 100 from December 1995 to March 1996. No artist matched that record until Justin Bieber teamed up with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee for “Despacito (Remix),” which spent 16 weeks in the top spot from May to September 2017. It’s no surprise that Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas is You” is on top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the third week in a row. This is, after all, the week covering Christmas Day. But this chart is actually dated January 4, 2020, which means Carey has done something no other artist has done before. She has had number-one hits in four different decades. (Check out our ranking of all her chart-toppers in the gallery above.)
Carey’s golden age was the 1990s, when she accumulated 14 of her number-one singles: “Vision of Love” (1990), “Love Takes Time” (1990), “Someday” (1991), “I Don’t Wanna Cry” (1991), “Emotions” (1991), “I’ll Be There” (1992), “Dreamlover” (1993), “Hero” (1993), “Fantasy” (1995), “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men (1995), “Always Be My Baby” (1996), “Honey” (1997), “My All” (1998) and “Heartbreaker” with Jay-Z (1999).

With the release of Jesus Is King — Kanye West’s gospel-indebted ninth solo album — came a promise: on Christmas Day, West would release a second Christianity-themed album titled Jesus Is Born.
Despite nagging difficulties with releasing albums on time — Jesus Is King saw numerous delays and its predecessor, Yandhi, was never released — West’s latest was right on schedule, hitting streaming services on Christmas afternoon.
While Jesus Is King used gospel as a starting point, pulling textures from worship music to add depth to West’s typically genre-hopping brand of hip-hop,...

Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" makes a major comeback every holiday season. But, this year, Mimi has blessed us with a new and improved music video for the 1994 tune! On Dec. 19 - just days after the festive jam hit No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the first time - the singer revealed the new visuals for the classic song.
The clip captures the magic of Christmas as a young girl discovers a snowy, magical land where Carey and her squad of candy cane-clad dancers are grooving to the music. While Carey rocks a Santa ensemble á la the original music video, she also dons a glimmering nutcracker bodysuit. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely feeling the holiday cheer. Watch the new video above, then check out Carey's 25th anniversary rerelease of her holiday album, Merry Christmas!
