Pratigyabadh review :
Mithun da played Shankar Yadav, a migrant from UP, who comes to Mumbai and turns in to a goon in order to provide education to his two siblings Kumar Gaurav and Amita Nangia. He also has an axe to grind with Anupam Kher who had raped his mother Beena and rendered them orphans.
Sujata Mehta played Mithuns love interest while Neelam was paired opposite Gaurav. Sunil Dutt Saahab had a God father type role as Pascal.
A big banner film, this is amongst BR Chopra's last few actioners which failed at the box office (Kal Ki Awaaz released a year after this also bombed). They struck gold only with the family drama Baghban (2002) much later.
Being a Mithun da fan, I had bunked school to watch this film FDFS at Kohinoor cinema Dadar (present day INOX Nakshatra). Since quite a few dialogues and songs in the film had a Bhojpuri flavour, the crowds were from that belt only. They were really enjoying their Prabhuji's (That's what they call Mithun in UP Bihar) onscreen antics and Sujata Mehta's sexy rain dance was met with ceetis galore.
Pratigyabadh is a forgotten movie today. So is this kind of cinema.
