This was so cute, clever, funny, and fun, it made me ask something I never thought I would ask myself: do I need to watch more Olsen Twin movies???

Cloris Leachman...what a hoot!

Cute Halloween movie I've watched with my kids for years back in the 90's. If you are looking for a lighthearted movie for fall, you will enjoy this one.

Adorable movie
pajone3924 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is such a sweet movie. Mary Kate and Ashley are adorable and Cloris Leachman plays both roles of evil Aunt Agatha and sweet Aunt Sophie very well.

The parents are a little clueless at times but they do follow the clues to find their missing daughters.

Oscar is the most responsible one among them as Mr N (short for Plato Nofziger which was too hard for the girls to say so they decided to just call him Mr N) was originally only after the moon stone.

I think most kids of today would enjoy this movie.

Hmmmm...

The Olsen twins are at it again - this time though, they're quite a bit younger (made when Full House was still being aired) - about six - yet still manage to put in okay performances despite their young age.

Here the play sisters (*twin* sisters, even!) who run away from their parents whilst trick-or-treating to help their Aunt Sophia, who is trapped inside a mirror thanks to Sophia's twin sister (who happens to be a witch).

Along the way they meet up with Mr. N(Meshach Taylor) and Oscar(Phil Fondacaro) who come along for the ride in hopes of setting their Aunt Sophia free.

Kids seem to like it, Mary-Kate and Ashley would've been complaining and amusing one-liners throughout to keep adults from falling asleep.

You can skip this one for your children
asafko-961686 November 2018
Recently rewatched this since my childhood. As a kid I loved it, but after watching it again, it's concerning. First of all, I have major issues with Mr. N: why did they name a black man "Mr. N" and then turn him into a crow later? And then having the little person live in a little house? And how did those girls' parents not notice for the longest time that their children were missing? This movie is actually kinda creepy and disturbing when you think about it. Do not show this movie to your kids if you don't want them to be subjected to racism in film and terrible characters.

Simple fun a little cheesy
calicomments1 November 2020
I can't believe the negative reviews for this show! This is for LITTLE kids. My kids loved it (2,4,6 and 8). I like that it isn't too creepy, but it still has some magic, mystery and spells so good fun for Halloween. Sure the Olsen twins are a little annoying, but again it's a KIDS movie. I used to watch it every year. Also there was comment about racism and Mr. N, as a kid I never thought of his name, but as far as him being turned into a crow at the the end it's a Halloween movie. Crows are classic Halloween creatures (think Edgar Allen Poe people), Mr. N is also a bit of a pick pocket and so are crows, it's symbolic. Stop making everything negative. As for the adult actors it's fun to see them get so into character, especially Leachman as the witch!

Sweet Movie
la_descarada17 February 2007
This movie totally made my childhood Halloween! Even now when I watch it I think its a bit lame but its still a sweet movie.

The acting is alright, but in a movie where the stars are under 10, what else can be expected? Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are adorable as the girls in this movie. Despite their age their acting is as good as any 20-something star on a daytime drama and no one really complains about their acting.

Some scenes still make me laugh with my sister when we watch it, and we always rent it for tradition on Halloween. Seriously, it doesn't deserve the bad reviews. Its a sweet kids movie, if you want intensity and drama go watch something else.

Another Childhood Favorite!!!
Pumpkin_Man16 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
As a child, I loved this movie, Olsen twins, and HALLOWEEN. Now that I'm older, I still do! The twins star as Lynn and Kelly. Their parents are about to lose their house. They ask Aunt Agatha for a loan, but because she's an evil witch, she doesn't. During that time, the twins meet a grave digger who tells them about the Moonstone, which gives Agatha her power. Agatha had a nice, sweet twin sister named Sophia, who is trapped in a mirror in the attic. On HALLOWEEN the next day, The twins try to find the witches' gathering, get the Moonstone, and save their sweet aunt by midnight with the help of Mr. N, Oscar the Clown, and the grave digger. If you love the Olsen twins, witches, and HALLOWEEN, you'll love DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TOIL AND TROUBLE!!!

Olsenfans will love it, non-Olsenfans: give this movie a chance!
ari-491 January 2005
If you're a fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley, you'll love this movie. If you're not a fan, you may think it's not such a great movie, but think twice: there's more to Double, Double, Toil and Trouble than just the Olsen Twins! The movie begins with money problems for the parents of Lynn (Ashley Olsen) and Kelly Farmer (Mary-Kate Olsen). Their only hope is a loan from old Aunt Agatha, but she's very mean. While their parents are visiting Agatha, the girls hear about witches and the moonstone. Aunt Agatha is said to be a witch who locked her twin sister, aunt Sophie, into a mirror, using the moonstone. Of course, Lynn and Kelly decide they want to find it! What's next, is a fun movie, taking place on Halloween, full of adventure for the girls, new friends and magic as well. The storyline may seem a bit childish sometimes, but in the end you'll discover that the girls are right: friends are more important than money. So, in conclusion: a movie Olsenfans will love, but non-Olsenfans should definitely give it a chance!

Top 10 Best Halloween Movies
lindseychentx12 October 2023
How in the world does this movie have only 6 stars on IMDb??

An absolute classic 90s Halloween movies. The Olsen twins kill it per the usual, the costumes and sets are adorable, the perfect mix of kid movie with creepy 90s drama.

Recently rewatched with my 4yo daughter and reconfirmed this movie is an A+ with just one big exception... the casual stereotyping that was so common in these days. There were more than a few cringey moments and it reminded me how appreciative I am that this is no longer the norm in film. Now if real life could catch up.

But I loved this movie in 93 as a little girl and my little girl loves it 23, so that says a lot.

OK shades of "The Wizard of Oz"
estherwalker-3471021 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If your little ones have seen "The Wizard of Oz" too many times, you might introduce them to this alternative magical adventure, featuring two much younger twin girls as the main characters. Of course, this '93 made-for-TV production isn't nearly as polished as "The Wizard..." Nonetheless, many magical things happen, to perhaps even keep adults entertained. I can't believe the abysmally low mean rating here at IMDB, and neither can most of the few other reviewers!! Also, I doubt if it's as scary to kids as the "The Wizard...." I was scared out of my wits when I first saw "The Wizard....." in a dark theater, at perhaps age 5. My friend went screaming out of the theater when he saw the abducting flying monkeys!.... I just wish this film had been made two years later, as in "It Takes Two", when the twins were about 8, so that their speech would have been more understandable, and their partnership with various men would have been a bit more believable and less cringeworthy.

The twins run away from their parents, and eventually meet up with and travel with 3 odd men, one, two or three at a time, although not nearly as odd as the 3 'men' Dorothy traveled with in "The Wizard......". Mr. N is a well-spoken homeless black man, who sort of reminds me of Uncle Remis, in "Song of the South" back in the '40s. Oscar the clown is a 'little person', the same height as the girls, perhaps reminding us of The Munchkins in "The Wizard....." He lives in a house with very low ceilings and gives them a magic wand to enhance their apparent twin-derived magic powers. The skinny very neurotic Gravedigger, very afraid of their miserly witch-like Aunt Agatha, sometimes joins and helps the twins.

The twins are on a mission to try to steal Agatha's flashing Magic Moonstone she keeps on a necklace, so that they can release Agatha's generous twin sister from her imprisonment in Agatha's magic mirror, so that she can hopefully loan their parents the money they need to avoid foreclosure on their house.

It's confusing that Agatha craves the Magic Moonstone, yet clearly has magical properties without it. It seems to enhance her magical abilities, as it does the girl's lesser such abilities...........Like the wicked witch in "The Wizard.....", evil Aunt Agatha vanishes at the end, being trapped in her broken mirror, where she had previously banished her twin. Bizarrely, after the girls no longer need the Magic Moonstone, it develops a leak, and deflates! Moonstones, of course, are actually a semi-precious stone, which have sometimes been credited with healing properties.
