Although this movie is called "Loaded Weapon 1", a sequel never happened. There was every intention to make "Loaded Weapon 2". A deal had been set in place before this movie had gone into production, and a poster had even been printed with the caption, "Oh come ON, you knew it was coming!" However, when this movie underperformed at the box-office, the deal was cancelled.
When Officers Francis Poncherello and Jon Baker from CHiPs (1977) appear, they are seen with their guns drawn in the middle of a gunfight. In the entire run of "CHiPs," they famously never drew their weapons or fired a shot.
The closing credits dedication reads: "This film is dedicated to the memory of John S. Owens." Owens worked as a boom operator in the Sound Department in the film industry.
While Colt and Luger are named for guns, they actually use a Beretta and a Smith & Wesson, respectively, the same guns used by Riggs and Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon films.
Joke critic comments on the DVD cover say: "On a scale of 1 to 10!" - Important Critic , "Shorter than Dances with Wolves (1990)" - Really Important Critic , and "The movie's even FUNNIER than the video cover!" - Really, Really Important Critic". Another comment was supposed to be a **1/2 [ two and a half ] stars rating, from critic Leonard Maltin, a reference to Maltin's most frequently used rating, but Maltin would not give permission to use his name or most used rating.
Bruce Willis: As John McClane. Willis did a cameo for this movie, in character, as a personal favor to his brother David Willis, who is the producer of this movie. Willis' cameo spoofed the fact he only "worked" in Los Angeles, as he actually "lives" in New York City.
