One of the most expensive post-Soviet films. Due to the inflation in early 1990s and ruble instability, the production company TAMP paid about $15 million to make the film.
When the film was completed, producer Vladimir Skorij failed to resolve copyright problems with the Bulgakov estate. After a few screenings, the film was shelved. A video version is available in Russia.
A public showing of the movie was arranged at Moscow Film Festival in 2006, twelve years after its filming.
Final film of Mariya Vinogradova.
