an American in Canada
GeordieNeil13 May 2002
i loved this film! it's a low budget attempt at a feel-good film along the lines of boy kills father, boy meets girl, boy wins girls heart. it contains an excellent performance from Rennie as the mild-mannered American who wins over the whole community of a small town in Canada. it has a real 'homely' feel, with subtle, understated camera work which complements the naivety and innocence of the two main characters, and their dreams and ambitions

I like it

A story about a mysterious man who ends up in a small town. He has killed his father(or he says he has) and he strikes up an unusual romance with one of the young woman there.

Although not an action movie which i usually like, i really enjoyed this light hearted movie.

it is not great. or memorable. only a touching story about a stranger, a sin, a small town and choices. a film about nothing at first sigh but charming for the profound delicacy, for dialogs, for the deep trace American literature, for the acting and for few scenes who are crumbs from another films. a film about a hero and its ambiguous honesty. nothing more but enough for seduce.the vulnerability, courage and innocence of lead character, explored by Callum Keith Rennie represents the best thing. than, the atmosphere who reminds Tennessee Williams. so, not great, not memorable. only interesting. and that could be precious good point.
