About all you'd want to see of Andy Kaufman
Schlockmeister6 June 2001
Good documentary highlighting the career of Andy Kaufman. It's about all one would want to see of a comedian who's best career movie was dying before he got older and even staler than he was already becoming. His famous routines are presented here, his TV work and some of his movies. Remembrances by celebrities who knew him or (as in the case of Jim Carrey) were being primed to play him a few years later.

Andy was wildly unfocussed and scattered in his routines. Consequently you could pretty much read anything you wanted to into him. If you had the tendency to admire the "bad boy" who made ther teachers uncomfortable in class, Andy might appear as a comic genius of the first order. Others saw him as irritating and, in fact, viewers voted him off Saturday Night Live.

A good look at the state of TV in the cocaine-addled 1970s, where Andy could be considered hysterical and the "Gong Show" was re-upped every year.
