Nihilistic sci-fi
Kastore24 February 2006
Quite different in tone from most films produced by Concorde, "Star Quest" follows a group of stranded space explorers towards disorder and self-destruction. There are only a handful of sets as most the scenes take place on the spacecraft, with a few v.r. sequences that - believe it or not - were actually filmed for this movie (unlike other Corman recycle jobs), plus various shots of the craft's exterior thrown in. The acting is also bumped up a bit from the usual B expectations, Emma Samms, Cliff De Young, and Ming-Na being the standouts. Lisa Boyle makes a nice cameo as a v.r. fantasy girl. All in all, a decent sort of extended "Outer Limits" episode with a nihilistic feel and lingering ending.

Watchable, if not memorable
Leofwine_draca16 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
STAR QUEST is a workable sci-fi flick of the mid 1990s, nothing special but worth a look for fans of the genre. The setting is a spaceship in deep space - as per usual - and we follow a crew as they engage with the usual problems of murder, renegade androids, virtual reality and the like. It's nice to see a film which isn't a simple ALIEN rip-off, although this is fairly derivative; the political tension enhances it somewhat. The film features some familiar actors giving solid performances (Steven Bauer, Brenda Bakke) and is overall watchable if not memorable.

Cheap and rubbish sci-fi. I love it.
erron15 October 1998
Warning: Spoilers
Terminal Voyage is not a very good film. It's a cheap Alien clone without the character, the suspense or, indeed, the Alien. A multi-national mismatched group of pioneers awake from a hundred years in hyper-sleep : their mission is to begin the colonisation of a new world. The Captain didn't survive the journey and, well, the rest is cliche. The group begin to disintegrate, racial stereotypes are brought to the fore and the Virtual Reality unit does a good line in soft-focus soft-core pornography.

Questions : Was the Captain's death sabotage? Do crew members start dying one-by-one? Does someone die inside the VR unit? Is one of the crew secretly an android? Is it obvious from the very start who it is? Does the android's severed head get powered up so that the cast member can sit underneath the table with just their head visible?

If you can answer "yes" to all of these questions then you could make a film that would bear an uncanny resemblance to Terminal Voyage.

Boring
gpantalone1 October 2020
Wow, was THAT bad! Long, boring, drawn out scenes with no point, bad, melodramatic acting, and a musical score so annoying I wanted to stick a sharp object in my ears to get it to stop.. Why is it that only Emma Sams wears that ridiculous hat? Once you realize how stupid it looks you can't stop staring at it. This was just plain bad.

So bad it's bad.
horrorfanaticgirl16 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm giving it a 3 only because of nostalgia. I watched this movie as a teenager and thought it was cool. Forgot the title and went on a decade search for it. Finally found the name and watched it only to realize I was an idiot as a teenager. This is not even one of those movies that is so bad it's good, it's just bad on top of bad. The story could have been interesting if they hadn't done it a dozen times before. The acting was not terrible but they obviously did not understand or have direction on the plot or characters. The music is top of the bottom public domain kind of music and just goes on and on and on, louder than it should have been and often didn't fit the scene.

We are introduced to a bunch of ho-hum, typical characters with no back story or anything at all interesting about them. The twists are dull and don't make any sense at all. The ending would have been interesting if not being confusing or horrible graphics (SPOILERS!), all I could think was "why is there an experimental bunker under the Golden Gate Bridge?" At least I think it was the Golden Gate Bridge...

Bad, bad movie. I see why they never released it on DVD.

it's pretty bad, but i like for some reason
apursansar28 March 2001
This movie is not good by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it's probably one of the worst films ever made. I saw it a long time ago, though, and it was late, and at the time I liked it. I hope to someday see it again, but i don't think that it's going to happen. I still recommend it to people who like bad movies.

A lousy riff on "Ten Little Indians"
PHolland28 February 1999
First, you start with Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians." A crew is on a star ship and they start being killed off one by one. Add some cheap cliches to attempt to make the characters seem real, like giving the doctor a drug problem (Why is the one character who should be aware of the dangers of drug abuse and is acutely aware there is a limited supply for everyone on board the one who succumbs to it?). Put in the characters behaving by the numbers, saying things like, "We have a mission to uphold"). The movie is so obvious with its plot twists, you start hoping that it's just trying to throw you off, and you see something other than you are expecting. Not at all. In fact, the big surprise plot twist in the film's final act, as well as the "ironic" ending, aren't that surprising or shocking. You watch the movie, wondering what would have happened if they'd tried a little harder.

Hollow & Slow
rndhyd15 January 2019
The headline is enough. I don't usually care about bad acting or cheap effects, but this movie is atrocious.

I couldn't even concentrate on the plot because the acting & overall sound is so bad.

Blah, blah, blah. Not much else to say but to take up characters to meet the minimum to help others avoid watching this trash.

Absolute garbage
RandomTard14 May 2021
When this cheap d-class movie was new in 1994 it would of been ridiculously bad. Now in 2021 this can't really be called a movie - it's more just some ugly trash that have emerged from the sewers.

There is no reason for anyone to watch this terrible piece of waste.

Not bad. Labeled as Star Quest
midge5620 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The jacket says 2178. This was not a bad movie. I will agree it was like 10 little indians in theme but they didn't pursue the deaths enough to determine if sabotage was involved. Nor did we ever find out who did it. But it must have been the android.

However, the movie was believable as was the acting. I didn't care for the drug addict doctor nor was an escape pod for only 2 believable or reasonable. Nor was the ending expected. That comment was BS.

It was disappointing that they never reached their destination.

I will agree with the comment about the absurdity of an underground bunker on Alcatraz island near the Goldengate bridge. Not a logical place for this.

I am disappointed that I could not fully hear the comment on the holographic phone except for mention of everything gone & Nostradamus. But the full comment was indiscernible. Without closed captioning, we may never know his full comment.

I could have done without the virtual reality & nudity on them. Those were a waste of time better used for improved story instead. I didn't buy the film to see their virtual reality trips. There was a short lived TV series or pilot very similar with virtual reality & deaths on a space craft. Someone was killing everyone via virtual reality. That series was really bad. I have it somewhere.

Kids don't need to see nudity fantasies & drug addict shoot ups to escape problems. Neither were necessary. It is rated R as a result which killed their main audience from watching it. It showed a lack of faith in the movie by the Director or whomever came up with the idea to insert scenes like that. I also would have liked to have seen more about the new planet and more ship & crew functions between the deaths instead of back to back.

But still is worth watching for adults. It was a B++ above all other B movies. The acting & sets & story were quite believable. Nothing cheesy even without expensive effects.

Watchable run of the mill sci fi movie with familiar story lines
agore31 August 2020
This is decent sci movie with familiar story lines but not much different from all the zombie, virus, and super heroes movies. It was yet another space crew on an extended journey story.

It was a bit long with aspects that could have been removed to improve the place but seem added to substitute for character interaction. The acting was decent and production typical for basic sci fi movie. Unlike some movies. it did not try to insult your intelligence with characters doing stupid things or ignoring basic science principles. It was more a character driven story with little action relying on special effects. If you like sci fi anthology shows. you should like this.

Decent fun
phantom11011 August 2001
While it is not the best movie ever made, nor the best done, I think it's still an enjoyable movie. The acting, while a bit sheltered by medicore scripting, is superb. Ming Na does very well as the doctor, and Emma Samms and Brenda Bakke do quite well also. And of course, being the ever popular De Young fan, Cliff did very well, minus the bad accent. All in all, I would suggest this movie to most people, so long as you don't watch it with kids.

Note to self...
bheadher24 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...be very carefull when you pick a 26 year old movie to watch, that had a shoestring budget...a broken shoestring...

While ultimately is is something to pass the time when you are bored, remember that this was made (produced) when CGI was only a dr5eam in someone's garage. It has strange dialog even for that time, and an uneven plot really...but it isn't totally horrible...well, not too horrible anyway. In fact the only real gripe I have is the somber tone which permeates most of the movie...they do spend a lot of time with seemingly irrational flashbacks though...

Final assessment, a 6 for the try...

Under rated master piece
spamf10 April 2021
The movie is amazing. It has amazing background scenery, great outfits for the actors and a really really good Scfi mystery movie. The actors play their roles very well. This is a very under rated film, this is a cult classic. Watch it!
