Adrenalin Junkies is set in the emergency department of Brisbane's Bethlehem West Hospital where a dedicated medical team, unique to Australia, live and breathe the demanding world of emergency medicine. The team specialises in the evacuation of disaster areas, journeying by helicopter to remote areas inaccessible by ambulance. They also work in the city streets and the suburbs involving themselves with the patients, their families and the police. Adrenalin Junkies was the first production of the company Liberty and Beyond which was formed by Tony Cavanaugh and Simone North's Liberty Films and Beyond International. Made for the Ten Network, a telemovie was produced in 1995, and three seasons of the series followed. Adrenalin Junkies premiered in Australia on September 10, 1996 winning it's 9:30 timeslot with an estimated audience of over one million viewers. In Australia, the series was produced under the name Medivac but for international audiences, the name Adrenalin Junkies was used. The series was filmed on location in Brisbane at the old Tax Office building on the corner of Wharf and Adelaide Streets.
