Violence & Gore

  • Stanley Goodspeed is initially shown to be horrified by violence, whereas John Mason is shown to have no hesitation to use lethal force including dangerous driving, shooting and stabbing. Eventually Stanley is forced to use violence which the film frames as heroic, manly and humorous. John Mason is initially shown to be selfish and dangerous, but as the movie progresses his motivations change and he makes more selfless and heroic decisions.
  • Darrow is thrown out of a tower by a rocket and is impaled on a pole.
  • Several SEALs are shot dead in a showering room.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A missile containing a lethal gas is fired at San Francisco. This is built up for some time and there is a strong sense of threat. However the missile's explosion is aborted at the last minute.
