Despite ancient humans having already overcome several potential doomsday scenarios in real life, post-apocalyptic fiction used to be relatively rare until the invention of the atomic bomb convinced us that the end of the world could be just around the proverbial corner.
Since then, we’ve seen many different stories about the collapse of civilization and the strange societies that might emerge from the rubble, but I’d argue that one of the most interesting of these apocalyptic visions is the post-nuclear America of the iconic Fallout games. A witty satire of American jingoism and cold war shenanigans, it’s honestly baffling that it so long for us to finally see a live-action adaptation of this memorable setting.
Thankfully, Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet’s Fallout TV show isn’t just a great adaptation – it’s also an incredibly fun standalone story that makes the most of its post-apocalyptic worldbuilding.

Given the state of the world around us today, it's not surprising that people are interested in post-apocalyptic settings. After all, you never know what skills or niche knowledge might save your life one day!
In all seriousness, though, post-apocalyptic scenarios can be a lot of fun. Packed with action, high stakes, and suspense, they keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find a movie or TV series that does justice to the genre and doesn't rely on the same repetitive clichés.
If you're feeling the adrenaline rush and can't wait for Fallout to return with season 2, check out the movies below.
Waterworld (1995)
At the time of its release, Waterworld was the most expensive movie ever made, but neither the huge budget nor Kevin Costner's name could save it from negative reviews. Although Waterworld is not the most outstanding movie of the genre,...

Consequence’s Origins series provides artists with a space to run fans through everything that went into their latest release. Today, glass beach take us through their new track, “rare animal.”
Fifth-wave emo trailblazers glass beach have announced their latest album, plastic death, set for release on Friday, January 19th. Following the release of their first single “the CIA,” the band has unveiled a brand new track, “rare animal,” out now via Run For Cover Records.
Drawing inspiration from midwestern emo and early 2000s indie folk, the band finds themselves mixing in their wide breadth of influences with their personal brand of emotional indie rock. Kicking off with a beautiful, mellow verse, the song quickly leads into a cathartic breakdown of a chorus. Complete with sparkling, dueling guitar lines and driving, wildly inventive drums, the tune expands upon their already sprawling sonic universe.

Based on a 2001 three-issue comic book miniseries written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is an alternate-world tale that introduced an alternate version of Bruce Wayne and the residents of Gotham to Lovecraftian horrors. It’s the most overtly horrific entry in the animated Batman franchise as well as the strangest.

I think part of the reason why we’re so fascinated with post-apocalyptic narratives is the idea that, once civilization crumbles, anything becomes possible. That’s why it’s strange that there are so many post-apocalyptic stories specifically about a jaded curmudgeon being forced to traverse a dangerous wasteland while caring for a child. From Cormac McCarthy’s The Road to The Last of Us and even Telltale’s The Walking Dead adaptation, it’s pretty clear that this recurring setup has evolved from a familiar trope to a full-blown sub-genre.
And among these “dadpocalypse” stories, my personal favorite happens to be a strange little homage to classic rock ‘n roll that rides a chaotic line between genuine genre flick and feature-length Kurosawa-themed music video. Naturally, I’m referring to Lance Mungia’s 1998 low-budget opus, Six-String Samurai. An under-loved cult classic, this offbeat throwback deserves a place among the pantheon...

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew Dark: Elevation, we’re back to just Mark Henry and Paul Wight on commentary and this week’s show is another short card, featuring 6 matches this week. Let’s get right into the action!
Match #1: Ethan Page def. Jd Griffey
My Thoughts: Griffey had a decent showing here in this quasi-squash match, but this one was Ethan Page’s to lose. It’s good to see Page actually wrestling on Aew television and not just cutting promos. Maybe now Scorpio Sky has the TNT Title spotlight that some of the spotlight will rub off on Page. Here’s Hoping!
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Roh Women’s Title Match – Mercedes Martinez def. Hyan
My Thoughts: Mercedes Martinez gave Texas local Hyan a Lot of room here. It even looked like she was doing Hyan’s moves for her at one point!

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew Dark: Elevation, we’ve got Excalibur and Paul Wight on commentary and a 7-match card featuring some of Aew’s biggest stars in a stacked show! Let’s get into the review…
Match #1: Kris Statlander def. Ashley D’Amboise
My Thoughts: Kris Statlander debuts her new look, ring gear, and intro on Elevation and I’m here for it. She looks more badass and acts more badass, not giving Ashley D’Amboise any room to get in any offence – totally squashing her apart from D’Amboise getting in a couple of punches to the gut. This was short and sweet and to the point. Rebuilding characters and making them look hard as nails is Exactly what squash matches are for!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Andrade El Idolo def. Alan “5” Angels
My Thoughts: It/s surprising to see just how well...

Welcome to this weeks review of Aew Dark: Elevation, the first of this weeks Aew shows on the road to Full Gear… Which I’m damn well excited for thzt’s for sure! Let’s get right to it.
Match #1: Powerhouse Hobbs def. Danny Adams
My Thoughts: Well this was awkward… Who let Tony Schiavone borrow the Delorean from Back to the Future and travel through time to wrestle Hobbs? I’m joking of course but Danny Adams aka Dan the Dad really does resemble a young Schiavone. He also got his ass kicked like Schiavone would if he did wrestle! Hobbs just messed around with Adams, playing with him like a toy before getting the decisive win.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: The Butcher and The Blade def. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Wheeler Yuta)

When Ashley Monroe wakes in the morning, she often heads straight to her closet. “I hear melodies in here,” says the singer-songwriter, calling from inside the cramped space during a recent interview.
In the quiet early morning hours of 2018 and 2019, Monroe heard much more than melodies in her closet. Fully fleshed-out arrangements — bass grooves, synth lines, vocal hooks — spontaneously presented themselves in her head. “I was hearing them like the songs were already written,” she says. If she liked something enough, she’d sing whatever she could a cappella and make a voice demo.

This weeks Aew Dark: Elevation got a Lot of things right, so lets see if Aew can follow-up one great show with another… Welcome to this weeks review of Aew: Dark!
Match #1: The Acclaimed def. Fuego Del Sol and D3
My Thoughts: No! Not another squash match for poor Fuego Del Sol. He’s got to get a win in someday doesn’t he? Much like their E;levation appearance, this match was pretty much to show how The acclaimed are back together and just as good as before Bowen’s injury. Just a shame Fuego had to be in yet another losing side.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: Matt and Mike Sydal def. David Ali and Aaron Frye
My Thoughts: The Sydal’s on Another episode of Dark; and after Matt appeared on Elevation the night before. I said it my review of that show and I’ll say it again,...

After last week’s successful outing for Aew Dark: Elevation, and the fact it looks like Aew have cut down on the sheer number of matches on this week’s episode meaning this weeks episode is a lot shorter than the 2+ hours of episode three, I thought we’d revisit Aew Dark: Elevation and see how the latest episode fares… With that said, let’s get to it!
Match #1: Adam Page def. Bill Collier
My Thoughts: Bill Collier puts in another great showing, though he did still look a bit green – waiting for the odd move from Hangman Page and he looked mis-positioned for Page’s Buckshot… Still its only his second match in Aew. And you have to love Page handing Collier a beer after the match!
My score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Varsity Blondes def. Dean Alexander & Carlie Bravo
My Thoughts: A fairly even pairing between these two teams,...

The Action Scene is a column exploring the construction of action set pieces, but it also considers “scene” in the sense of field or area: “action” as a genre and mode that spans different cultures and historical periods. By examining these two levels in tandem—one oriented toward aesthetic expression, the other toward broader contexts and concepts—this series aims to deepen appreciation for and spark discussion about action cinema. In a pivotal scene from Chang Cheh’s The One-Armed Swordsman (1967), hero Fang Kang, having lost his right arm and seemingly all hope of improving his swordsmanship, is thrown a lifeline in the form of a kung-fu training manual, given to him by the kindly country girl who nursed him back to health. Although more than half the booklet was destroyed in a fire, the remains turn out to be conveniently accommodating to his injury: it was solely the right-handed maneuvers that were burned away,...

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

It includes an enormous amount of DC animated movies, mostly featuring Batman, the Justice League and Green Lantern. All of the Christopher Reeve Superman films will be up on HBO Max as of July,...

Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

I would rip off someone's jaw to see Juan of the Dead right now. That's how cool this first trailer is for what Latino Review calls "Cuba's 1st Horror Film" is. Written and directed by Alejandro Bruges, Juan of the Dead takes place 50 years after the Cuban Revolution, where the island is overrun by zombies the government swears were sent by the United States. Social commentary aside, it's then up to one man to attempt to solve the problem. Part Shaun of the Dead (obviously) but with a grittier look more akin to something culty and cool like Six-String Samurai, you've gotta see this bad-ass trailer for Juan of the Dead. Thanks to Latino Review [1] for exclusively premiering this trailer. It looks insane. And here's the poster for the film: In the Latino Review story, Bruges describes the movie as follows: It's a zombie film but it's about Cubans and...

Just imagine being a social outcast, living through the apocalypse and not being able to find any joy in outlasting all of humanity. That's some epic, ironic torture right there.
Writer/director Jet Wintzer describes his film Towers as "a post apocalyptic psycho indie rock opera," so we fully expect this to be on the experimental side. The film stars Angela Washell and Lauren Ashleigh as two teenage girls who meet each other as they drift aimlessly through the apocalypse (read: life).
Synopsis:
When the human race can no longer feel happiness, peace or joy due to mutations caused by radiation from cell phones and *towers*, humanity becomes virtually extinct.
In this post apocalyptic psycho indie rock opera, two young women miraculously find each other in a psychedelic haze whilst traveling the barren American landscape searching for the world's last DJ broadcasting via Ham, Shortwave and Cb...from Heaven.

In the wake of all the fervent sporting event chants of USA and the vicious social media debates, everyone wants to take credit for the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. The Armed Forces, the Navy Seals who were actually part of the mission, the Judeo-Christian Military Industrial Complex, Annheiser-Busch, President Obama, George W. Bush, Donald Trump, Twitter -- they all want a lick at that shiny brass ring. But, clearly, we are forgetting the true hero, the one who predicted this moment with disturbing alacrity.
Corey Feldman.
Last night was the premiere of Operation Belvis Bash, a "zany" independent "film" that's dubbed as a musical comedy romance set in the deserts of Afghanistan. But get this, it's about...are you ready for it?...the assassination of Osama Bin Laden!!!1!1! Well, not really. But maybe! Probably?

The kids return with the second of their Listener Appreciation shows, wherein three movies suggested by the listeners are examined.
First up, we take a look at the Canadian Heavy Metal, "Rock & Rule," an animated rock & roll story about weird mouse people caught in a Faustian plot from 1983. The flick features music by Lou Reed, Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop.
Then we get caught up in a journey to Lost Vegas in the retro, post-apocalyptic "Six-String Samurai," starring an annoying little kid and The Red Elvises, from 1998.
Finally, everything gets really weird and erotic in 1989's surreal, expressionist "Dr. Caligari," from the team of Stephen Sayadian (a.k.a. porn director Rinse Dream) and Jerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight, Alf, Night Dreams).

Significantly and obviously inspired by anime, White Wall is a low-budget mix of martial arts, western and post-apocalyptic sci-fi. The latter is the genre it captures the best, as it cribs liberally from the standard apocalypse scenarios. Dystopian cities under military rule, the last arks for human civilization; all that's left after a deadly virus has turned most into the infected.
It's a decent time-tested premise. Combined with western kitsch and some kung fu fighting, it reads like a solid recipe for a fun flick. But this is one of those dishes that would increase, not sate, the appetite. In other words, when the credits roll, you're going to want to watch this movie again. Just maybe not this one.
Giving new meaning to "white wall," the film opens with several walls of text explaining the film's backstory. After human civilization is ruined by the virus Vxii, a white wall...

I do love it when someone says the name Six String Samurai, and that's even without seeing the great photography and insane storyline planned for this little indie. "A modern day dark comedy, Apocalypse, CA is the story of a group of friends as they prepare for certain death at the hands of an approaching asteroid. Wry, cynical and full of off-beat humor, Apocalypse, CA is in the vein of films like "Being John Malkovich", "Six-String Samurai", and "Garden State". The film is currently in post-production and theres a demo reel of footage after the break. We'll keep an eye on this one!

Seeking to breathe new life into its Crow franchise, Dimension Films has tapped David Boreanaz, Edward Furlong, Dennis Hopper and Tara Reid to topline Wicked Prayer, the fourth installment of the series produced by Edward R. Pressman and Jeff Most. Lance Mungia (Six-String Samurai) is directing the project, which goes into production in June. Emmanuelle Chriqui, Danny Trejo, Marcus Chong and Tito Ortiz round out the cast. Set in the Southwest, Prayer tells the story of ex-con Jimmy Cuervo (Furlong) and his girlfriend, Lily (Chriqui), who are murdered by Luc Crash (Boreanaz) and his satanic gang Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as part of a ritual for Crash to become an immortal demon. The rest of the gang is played by Chong, Ortiz and Reid, with Reid playing Crash's evil love interest. Hopper plays El Nino who marries Crash and Lola.
