The CBS schedule typically looks about the same year after year. That's all changed for the 2023-24 television season because of the writers and actors strikes. Will CBS decide to focus more on reality shows moving forward? Stay tuned!

Dan Rather is returning to CBS News.
Nearly 20 years after stepping down as the anchor of the CBS Evening News, and 18 years after he last appeared on the network, the anchor will return to a CBS program. This time, he will be the subject of an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.
Per a release from CBS, “Lee Cowan talks with former CBS News anchor Dan Rather about his work at CBS and his life in news.”
A source confirms that it will be Rather’s first appearance on a CBS News program since he formally left the network under tumultuous circumstances nearly two decades ago.
Rather said that he was the scapegoat in a scandal over a 2004 report for 60 Minutes II on then-President George W. Bush’s military record, and the anchor subsequently sued the network for breach of contract. The 60 Minutes spin-off was canceled less than a year later.

Jo Ann Ross, the first woman to run a broadcast TV network’s ad-sales efforts and one of the last senior ad-sales executives in the TV industry to hold direct relationships with advertisers when primetime broadcast programs were seen as the primary venue for Madison Avenue’s dollars, is leaving the industry, stepping down from her role as chairman of Paramount Global’s ad sales division at the end of April.
Ross had already stepped back from day to day duties, ceding that role to John Halley, who was named president of ad sales for the company in 2022. But her relationships with key sponsors were seen as valuable, as were the ties many of her senior executives had with media agencies and marketing executives. She has stayed on at Paramount in a key advisory role.

The creations of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett among numerous others shall remain unparalleled in history due to the weight of the legacy of Batman: The Animated Series. The 90s show taught the world more about the Caped Crusader than all the Batman movies combined and remains one of the most beloved series due to reasons far beyond simple human understanding.

Billy Joel Concert Was CBS’ Least-Watched Sunday Primetime Fare But Still Beat Broadcast Competition
Billy Joel drummed up 5.73M viewers on Sunday night for the CBS airing of his concert at Madison Square Garden.
Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden won its time period, beginning around 9:30 p.m. Et/Pt. However, it was actually the least-watched fare on CBS that night.
Both 60 Minutes and Tracker drew more than 8M viewers, meaning that about 30% of the network’s audience had checked out before the special began.
Still, it’s a decent audience to hold onto that late on a Sunday night, and it beat out all other broadcast competition by a hefty margin. It also improved the time period over that time slot’s usual CSI: Vegas airing.
CBS is giving the special one more chance to shine, given that the presentation cut out in some parts of the country as the singer was in the middle of his signature hit “Piano Man.

Veteran journalist Katie Couric has been opening up about her career, especially her time working with Bryant Gumbel as co-host of NBC’s Today show in the 1990s. Speaking on Sunday’s episode (April 14) of Bill Maher‘s Club Random podcast, Couric recalled Gumbel’s “incredibly sexist attitude” regarding her maternity leave from the long-running morning show in 1991. “He got mad at me because I was doing something on maternity leave,” Couric told Maher, per Deadline. “And he was giving me endless s*** for taking like a month or two off. I was having my first baby.” She continued, “He was like, ‘Why don’t you just drop it in the field and come back to work right away or something?’ It was really…” The former 60 Minutes correspondent noted that Gumbel was kidding but that his jokes represented a wider issue of the culture. “No, he was kidding,” she shared.

Richard Leibner, a celebrated talent agent who represented some of the best-known anchors in TV news, first at a firm he helped build and then for UTA, died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
In his time, Leibner served as an agent and adviser to Dan Rather, Mike Wallace, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer, Bob Simon, Steve Kroft, Bill Whitaker, Diane Sawyer, Chuck Scarborough, Paula Zahn, Brian Stelter and Fareed Zakaria, among others. He was a passionate advocate for clients, and was never been shy about delivering his opinion of the latest goings-on in the ever-churning news sector.
Leibner firmly believed that top news anchors should be treated akin to Hollywood royalty. “Decades ago, he made it his personal mission to see that big name news stars should be treated and compensated like traditional movie and television stars,” said Jay Sures, UTA’s vice-chairman, in a memo to staffers Tuesday.

The mysterious “Havana syndrome” illness that has affected U.S. diplomats and spies may have ties to Russia. The findings came from The Insider, Der Spiegel and CBS’s 60 Minutes investigation.
Havana syndrome refers to a series of symptoms affecting U.S. diplomats and spies who spent time in Havana, Cuba and other nations serving the federal government. The first reports of this illness originated in 2016 from U.S. and Canadian officials in Cuba.
Over the years, government officials have reported similar experiences globally in countries such as China and India. The illnesses were also known as “anomalous health incidents.” Symptoms include dizziness, headaches, tinnitus and even cognitive impairment.
Investigations into the illnesses hypothesized that they were the result of “acoustic weapons” or “sonic attacks,” but findings have not been conclusive. Now, a report from 60 Minutes claims Russia is behind “Havana syndrome.”
The Kremlin denied these claims, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov telling reporters,...

A sympathetic portrait of a porn star whose life was turned upside down by the President of the United States, Sarah Gibson’s “Stormy” might not be confused for any of the other movies that its subject has starred in before, but it shares a few key things in common with virtually all of them: It’s poorly shot, severely lacking in character detail, and much longer than most people would ever need it to be. There’s self-evident value in Gibson’s efforts to spotlight the human consequences of tabloid scandal, and her film illustrates America’s culture of misogyny with the same conviction that it assails the financially punitive nature of our country’s legal system. And yet, the more this bland and incurious Peacock Original argues that Stormy has been done wrong by the media, the more convincingly it makes the case that she deserved a better documentary.

You won’t see many stories this year wilder than the one depicted in Jonathan Ignatius Green’s new documentary Dickweed, which features drugs, kidnappings, penile amputations, prison escapes and more. (To be fair, it features only one of several of those things, but plurals sound more exciting.)
Were I a “wild stories” critic, Dickweed — which my autocorrect keeps turning into “Duckweed” as if it were more likely I’d be writing about water lentils — would get top marks for sure. But while the story told in Dickweed is occasionally spectacular, the documentary itself is strangely focused, makes questionable use of its best interview subjects and relies on some of the blandest and most familiar artistic choices in the true-crime genre.
Really, Dickweed isn’t a documentary. It’s two episodes of an upcoming SundanceTV true crime series — semi-appropriately titled True Crime Story: Smugshot — that have been reedited together and...
