Violence & Gore

  • A boy throws a bear trap at another boys dog injuring it.
  • Two boys get into a fight punching is involved.
  • For a G Rated film some of the violence is rather extreme although there isn't a lot of it. It's the violence that you expect from a early 80s PG rated film.
  • After Jay takes a pocketknife his teacher tells him there's only one thing you do learn from. After School is dismissed for the summer we find out that Jay got a licking in school for what he did. This movie shows it was set during the time when corporal punishment was still being practiced in schools. It's not shown but it's mentioned.

Profanity

  • One use of the word Hell but it's used in general context

  • Man and monkeys drink moonshine.
  • Monkeys drink moon-shine and a character exclaims "they're flat out drunk"

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A dead body is shown on camera 3 times for a few seconds may frighten children
  • Jay Barry gets into a heated argument with his parents and is sharply reprimanded for it. Can be pretty intense for young audiences especially for kids who have strict parents who set rigid boundaries and have strict rules. Most of this movie is set during the old times when firm discipline was required and repercussions were often used.
  • Suggested rating PG for Thematic Elements, Meanness and Ridicule, some violence and for upsetting scenes
  • A girl is seen dangling from a root on a cliff however she is saved by her brother.
  • A boy escapes his house by climbing out a window and jumping off the roof and hits the ground. He's unhurt by the fall.
  • Jay tries to blame his sister for the situation he's in and his mother yells at him.
  • After the argument Jay has with his parents his dad tells him to stay in his room and reflect on his wrongdoings. He says this to Jay in a cold and stern voice.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A huge storm barrels down on the Lee farm. As the storm progress the winds intensify and as the characters are huddled in the basement outside it's sounds like a tornado heard and a window shatters knocking over objects although it's not shown the howling roar of the wind suggests a tornado is on the ground.
