Gyula Gazdag ranks as one of Hungarian cinema's most productive directors. For intelligent film festival audiences, he is best remembered as the artist who directed "A Hungarian Fairy Tale". Hosszú Futásodra Mindig Számíthatunk/The Long Distance Runner was the first documentary film which he made in 1969.It is about the making of an athlete as viewers get to see a Hungarian athlete who ran from Budapest until Kenderes in order to cover a distance of 128 km. The film can be viewed from a dual perspective as it shows how an athlete is running for his personal growth. From a different perspective, it also shows how an athlete is made to run for the greater glory of his country. The athlete is surrounded by officials who are around him at all major points. They are also around in case somebody decides to take part in a sporting event. As per this documentary film, viewers get to see how one runs for a long duration. Lastly, Gyula Gazdag also shows the athlete in question running during the night and the day.
