With beautiful black and white cinematography, often a noir one, the very first film by Paulo César Saraceni can be considered as a neorealist one. Indeed, is is almost a remake of the movie which is usually considered as the very first in Italian neorealism, 'Ossessione', Luchino Visconti's debut, which is also based in the very same novel, 'The Postman Always Rings Twice', by James M. Cain. Here in 'Porto das Caixas', the leading role woman, an unhappy poor married woman living in a small town in Rio de Janeiro state, is portrayed by the striking presence of Argentine-Brazilian actress Irma Álvarez.
