Sex & Nudity

  • Al Pacino's character is offered a night by Elizabeth Berkley's escort character. They are shown later (clearly post sex). Berkeley is shown in the latter scene in a thong from behind. Her breasts are also fully visible as the scene closes.
  • At a party, Shark tells Beamen that "blowjobs are upstairs" and if you want it, "follow the flesh." It is implied most of the women at the party are prostitutes.
  • Naked white male with semi erect penis clearly seen from the side.
  • Explicit full frontal male nudity of black male with bent penis.
  • In a scene at a party, some naked women are shown. Their breasts are clearly visible. The scene is very short.
  • There are three locker room scenes which contain naked players. Two of them include frontal nudity--once in the showers in the background, once in the foreground as the player shakes hands with the female owner.

Violence & Gore

  • The film includes several extended sequences of professional football games played to accentuate the violence of the sport. Most of them show serious and bloody injuries. In one such scene, after showing a player's eye-socket, his eyeball complete with optic nerve is shown lying on the turf. Medics then bag up the eye and place it in an icebox, leaving a bloody stain on the field.
  • One scene shows scenes from Ben Hur including the chariot race in which a man is run over and dragged by a chariot. The chariot race is on a TV in the background.
  • A wife slaps her husband.
  • A man shoves another man so hard that he falls down against a wall.

Profanity

  • The N-word is used a lot, mostly in one song.
  • The F-word is used at least 124 times. The S-word is used at least sixty-seven times. The N-word is used at least twenty-three times. A woman is called a dyke several times. There are other vulgarities and quite a number of religious profanities.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A couple of characters (and several extras) smoke cigarettes and cigars.
  • Cocaine is shown in use as is a cortisone injection.
  • Several party scenes and bar scenes include drinking, in some cases to excess.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The final football game is very intense as we watch to see who is going to be injured and how badly.
