The song "Aajkal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche" , is usually thought to be sung by Lata Mangeshkar but it was in fact sung by Suman Kalyanpur. The confusion results from the fact that the quality of Suman Kalyanpur's voice is similar to Lata Mangeshkar's at times.
The film was narrated to Shammi Kapoor but he did not give a response immediately. The producers thought he had rejected the offer when he loved the script. Meanwhile thinking Shammi had turned down the film the producers offered Rajendra Kumar the film and he agreed. One day Rajendra Kumar was talking to Shammi and told him he had signed a film titled "Bhahmchari".Hearing this Shammi' s jaw dropped as he thought he was doing the film. Shammi rang the producers and asked why the film was offered to Rajendra Kumar. The producers told Shammi it was too late as Rajendra was already paid and signed for the film. Shammi Kapoor then arrived at Rajendra Kumar' s house and pleaded with him to leave th film. Rajendra was very hesitant and not willing to. After much effort, Rajendra finally opted out and let Shammi Kapoor play the lead in the film.
Just before the song "Aaj Kal Tere Mere", Pran calls Shammi Kapoor "Junglee" and "Budtameez", both of which are titles of Kapoor's movies.
The film went on to win six Filmfare Awards, including Best Film and Best Actor.
The idea for Anil Kapoor's character in "Mr. India" being someone who brings orphan children into his home and raises them his own was copied from this film. Both characters also have a loyal servant and both the characters' houses are on the verge of being repossessed.
