Just dreamy..
foton2 January 2005
I saw this TV series on a local channel about 9 years ago and could never forget its beauty ! I love Romantic novels and this one was just dreamy ...Though I am not an accomplished critic I will just try to express my impression about it ...the story begins with Centaine the young pretty French girl then moves from France to South Africa in the most beautiful locations I have ever seen on TV!! Acting also was just wonderful especially Derek De lint as if he wasn't acting at all!!! I liked Jason Connery also although his appearance wasn't long enough .

It is my favorite TV series so far ,I wish to be in Centaine 's shoes and live such a wonderful adventure and find true love !!! I recommend it for all the girls to see; Believe me you won't regret it at all .

Simply the best

This is my favorite TV series. I never saw anything that beautiful on TV. It's a diamond itself. I just feel I have to express my incomprehension here on IMDb. I cannot understand that it is so hard to find on the internet. Why did it disappear from TV? I'd pay a lot of money just to watch it one more time. The scenery is absolutely stunning. The storyline is immersive. The acting is great as far as I can remember. I was only 12 when I saw it for the last time, but it hasn't left my mind ever since. This series is to me like an old lover you cannot forget. If you like romantic movies, you shouldn't miss this one. Can someone please dig it out.

Pretty good adaptation of the novels, up to a point.

Because The Burning Shore is one of my favourite books, I took the time to watch the German-dubbed version of this movie/series on U-Tube. Having read the book (and its first sequel, Power Of The Sword) several times, not understanding the German dialogue did not make me enjoy the movie any less than I expected... up until the movie began departing from the book's plot. Since this was made as a mini-series, the producers should have started with Wilbur Smith's first book of the Courtney family saga, When The Lion Feeds, and stretched the story of the Courtneys over the entire 70-year span of that family's novels. The ending of the mini-series, as it was filmed, is much more predictable than how the plot of Smith's novels evolves. Still, WS fans will enjoy most of this adaptation and anyone who has not read any of his novels will want to investigate this author's tales after seeing this movie. As for the acting, I'd give it a A-. for the cinematography, a C+ (would have been so much better if filmed in Africa)
