Maybe back to the old days

I think that, like for most series, there is a public for this. Once, when I was a little boy, I used to watch this show every day, an avid fan... ...but somewhere along the way, I grew up, and the series didn't. They started bringing in things like kidnappings, divorces, childbirth, alcoholics, rapes, marriage problems, an archbishop getting married, divorced, and in the end dying of aids. I could go on and on, but the tricks from the box seemed endless...

From the original casts, there are only three actors left, all the others changed, sometimes more then once, actors. Sometimes after being resurrected, sometimes after one of the time warps.

I hope that this series will not sent the example for what is to come, because, the original purpose, is long lost, a family tale

Good in the beginning...weak these days!

'Familie' is the longest running soap in Belgium and is still one of the most popular. Even though its story lines became more and more predictable.

They describe the show as 'a show based on real-life' experiences. I doubt that. You can't imagine which situations the characters went through. Thousands of murders, dead people becoming alive again, love affairs, hostage by terrorists, ...you think of something, they've been through it.

In the beginning, the characters were all one big family: the nagging grandmother, the oldest son who is a famous businessman, the other dumb and clumsy son, the daughter with a messed up life (she was an alcoholic, survived cancer, lost 3 children,...). These days, there is almost nothing left of the original family. Which is a shame.

"Familie" (Family) has gained fame as the longest-running soap series on Flemish television. It is also one of the worst, if not THE worst ever shown. (One star is too much, but sadly the imdb system does not allow for a lower ranking.)

"Familie" wasn't very good to begin with, but at least it made some kind of sense during its first seasons : it focused on the relationships and conflicts inside a specific family, complete with business problems or quarrels. It proposed recognizable characters, to whom recognizable things happened : we were, more or less, in the real world. However, as the series continued (and continued, and continued, and continued) the writers ran out of inspiration and began throwing everything into the pot. This resulted in a giant mess involving ever more far-fetched tales and storylines about sects, blackmail, disappearances, alcoholism, life-threatening illnesses, attacks, kidnappings, conspiracies, multiple births, and so on.

In other words : the series has given the world enough crime, violence, madness and intrigue to stun an Italian Renaissance prince. And it is STILL as boring as cabbage and as annoying as lice.

Moreover, the series has gone through various recasts and reboots, generally speaking without much regard for narrative or (chrono)logical coherence. It reminds one of those horror stories where a revived corpse begs for a merciful return to oblivion...

Cherry on the cake : much of the series has been filmed in my home town of Mechelen (Malines). Mechelen is a delightfully old and interesting city, but in "Familie" it tends to look and sound about as compelling as a rainy afternoon in an abandoned bus shelter.

one of the worst

they change characters every season and most of the times it's really boring, every time they make a "cliffhanger" the next episode it's just about something boring and stupid. i only watch it when there is a little bit of action, I expected more from this I hope in the future it will become more nicer and not like " oh this character is the same but it is played by yet another different bad actor"
