Nice 90s time capsule
DanielJosLeary30 July 2001
It's amazing that this, what seemed like a huge event for rock and roll at the time, is hardly remembered now. Even in wake of the huge disaster of Woodstock '99 very few compared it to the success of Woodstock '94. But that seems to be an apt commentary on the sad mental state of today's pop-music culture. Woodstock '94 was an incredible rock and roll event, and this video did well in showcasing it in a short tight package. Although, it would have nice to have more interviews with attendees and performers. And of course this was really only a direct-to-video cash-in that can't face up against the theatrical masterpiece that documented the original Woodstock. Still Woodstock '94 is definitely worth the time for fans of the alternative music of the mid-nineties.

An Excellent Concert That Captures This Moment In Time
cheesecrop8 July 2012
Woodstock 94 should not be judged against it's predecessor from 1969. It was it's own free standing entity, despite the clear attempts to link it to the 1969 show. Were there older acts at the 94 show? Absolutely. Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, Aerosmith, and several others appear in this film. At the same time, this documentary clearly represents a early 90's mindset.

The concert was split into three days,as it appears in this film. Major acts of the time, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and Green Day, are all highlighted. As a film, it is a fairly good representation of the high point of the 1990's rock scene, how ever you term it ("grunge", "alternative", whatever).

I've heard people talk about how money allegedly was the real difference between 69 and 94. At the same time, many people seem to forget that the 1969 concert was meant to be a moneymaking endeavor. Just think for a second about those people who have "tickets" to the 1969 festival. How did they get them? Somebody had to spend a few dollars.

Once you consider this, the differences between 69 and 94 (and for that matter the 99 show as well) fade into the ether, so to speak. Being that I was right age, and in the right place and time to enjoy this show, I recollect it with all the excitement I felt then, even today. It's a fine concert, In It's Own Right.

I was there...and it can not be compared...to the original
photostation-11 February 2006
I only cared to see this flick for the simple reason that it was single-handedly the worst weekend of my life! I lost a great job because I chose to attend this over-priced, over-rated concert. I lost my girlfriend shortly after wards (that was a good part!) and my former best friend decided to try hallucinogenic drugs and lost my backpack with all of my possessions - including my wallet and near $400.00 cash!...and it rained on my birthday that weekend. But enough of my sad-sack editorializing! Like the previous reviewer, this festival was purely greed oriented and the images you see here show great monumental performances from some of the heavy-weight rockers of the time, and a few new ones who have since gone on to super-stardom. Green Day's mud fight on the second stage is perhaps the only classic memorable scene that people will recall from this event. However, the original Woodstock film documents the true spirit of peace and love and this one is all about the Benjamins.

Never Try to Repeat History
Sargebri25 March 2003
As I said in my comment about the original festival, the first Woodstock was a miracle that came out of a disaster. This was just a bunch of greedy promoters, including Michael Lang, that tried to recapture the magic of the original concert. Sure, the bill was great (Aerosmith, Santana, Sheryl Crow etc.), but there was not the spirit that the original event had. Also, the first concert was held against the backdrop of a country in turmoil and the original was a microcosm of that turmoil. Another thing about the original was that it was the last gasp of the peace and love generation, while this festival was just the first major gathering of "Generation X".
