Netflix’s Heartstopper is a faithful adaptation of Alice Oseman’s web comics, doubtless thanks to the fact that Oseman herself adapted the series for screen. Fans of the comics – about a burgeoning gay romance between two British secondary school boys – needn’t worry about their favourite moments having been missed on TV. The important scenes from the first two volumes, from the ink explosion to Charlie and Nick’s day in the snow, Harry’s party, the birthday bowling, the disastrous cinema outing, the school concert and more, are up there on screen alongside new moments showcasing popular supporting characters Elle, Tao, Tara and Darcy.
Writer Oseman, director Euros Lyn and the production team have created such a loyal version of the source material that if viewers just watch the Netflix show, they’re not missing out on any vast backstory or details. If however, some viewers are inspired...

This past weekend, horror fans all over were introduced to a new era of Scream movies, with the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence taking over the directorial (and producing) reins for this fifth installment of the popular horror franchise that had been kicked off a little more than 25 years ago now by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. During a recent press day for Scream (2022), Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with the directing duo of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin as well as producer Chad Villella about the pressures of taking on a new Scream film and celebrating the legacy of this franchise as well as Craven’s contributions to the genre as well.
During the interview, the trio also discussed their approach to Scream (2022)’s opening scene and how it had to live up to the fans’ expectations of what has become such a crucial scene in this series,...

Ghostface is back, baby! If you know anything about me as a horror fan, then you probably know that Wes Craven is a figure in this genre that has been a huge influence on me for nearly four decades now, and I continue to try and honor his legacy these days through the work that I do as a journalist (especially through our “Cravin’ Craven” podcast series on F This Movie!). That being said, I’ve spent a few years wondering just how I was going to feel seeing someone (or someones in this case) take the helm of the Scream franchise because it ranks right up there for me alongside the Nightmare on Elm Street series, and I didn’t know if my heart was prepared to see anyone else play around in the audacious and innovative cinematic sandbox that Craven and Kevin Williamson first introduced us to back in 1996.

As mentioned in my piece earlier today, Scream (2022) is my most anticipated film for next year, so I was thrilled to be able to participate in a virtual set visit for Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s latest entry in the franchise. During the press event, Daily Dead joined a group of journalists to chat with all the newbies that we’ll be meeting in Woodsboro for Scream (2022), including Kyle Gallner, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Melissa Barrera, and Sonia Ammar.
Admittedly, the Scream newbies were rather tight-lipped when it came to revealing many details about their involvement in this new film, but they did discuss their feelings about joining the franchise, their experiences collaborating with directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and the legacy Scream cast members, as well as the pressure that comes with joining one of horror’s best franchises for a highly anticipated sequel.

The 2021 Newport Folk Festival (technically titled “Folk On”) is, for obvious reasons, much different than past installments: Coming off a year of mass tragedy and societal reckoning, this year’s event, ongoing through July 28th, features double the amount of days — six instead of three — reduced capacity, and fewer stages. The first three days were the folkiest in recent memory: more acoustic, more intimate, and more traditionally minded than usual. Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley delivered their timeless Drive-By Trucker tunes as an acoustic duo, Katie Crutchfield performed highlights from her 2020 opus,...
