Filming has begun in Cheshire on a new 13-episode Cbbc adaptation of Jill Murphy's The Worst Witch.
The books were previously adapted back in the late 1990s for ITV, with a young Felicity Jones, who went on to be nominated for an Oscar for The Theory of Everything, starring as Ethel Hallow, and then again with a new group of young witches in The New Worst Witch in 2005.
Newcomer Bella Ramsey, a member of the Nottingham-based Television Workshop, stars as Mildred Hubble. Bella will also shortly be making her screen debut as Lyanna Mormont in Season 6 of Game of Thrones.
Mildred Hubble is our heroine. From a world outside of magic, she finds herself landing head first, literally, at Miss Cackle’s Academy for witches. The series follows her adventures and friendships as she strives not to be The Worst Witch! Full of flying, magic and plenty of laughs,...

The writer of The Worst Witch children's books has suggested that a new television adaptation of the series will soon begin production.
Jill Murphy told The Daily Telegraph that a new series is in development with the BBC, adding that she is excited by the revival.
"We're just in the process of working on it with the BBC," she said.
"They have much better special effects for the animals, so it should be wonderful. I'm really, really looking forward to it."
Murphy also opened up about the original 1986 television film adaptation of her novels.
"It was one of those things that starts up a great hope and bits go wrong," she said.
"The film was terribly disappointing because it had an appalling script and they made various mess-ups, like with the costumes. When the girls saw the costumes, they practically cried because the hats looked ridiculous.

Darren Aronofsky reportedly turned down the chance to direct Fifty Shades of Grey.
Sam Taylor-Johnson was confirmed to oversee the El James adaptation today (June 19).
However, the Black Swan filmmaker was offered the role last month and declined because he is still working on Biblical epic Noah, according to The Wrap.
The report also states that Sam's husband, Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is not thought to be pursuing the role of Christian Grey.
Meanwhile, the article claims that British actress Felicity Jones is one of the frontrunners to play the part of Anastasia Steele.
Jones first found fame as Ethel Hallow in the TV series The Worst Witch. She has since gone on to star in films such as Like Crazy and Chalet Girl.
Sam Taylor-Johnson is best known for directing the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, which starred Aaron.

Drew Droege as Chloë Sevigny
Halloween has never made much sense to me. Why is everyone content to spend the holiday prancing around in underwear the size of tissue paper? Are people really spooked by fake ghosts and goblins? What can October 31st offer those of us with a more sensible, refined palette? I was completely befuddled. Then, just two years ago, I stumbled upon Chloë Sevigny's (a.k.a. the fabulous Drew Droege) "Hallowe'en" video and learned that I'm not alone.
If you would rather attend the Grand Re-Opening of the Nissan Sherman Oaks than bear another night at The Abbey, Halloween just isn't going to cut it. Instead, this year celebrate its more sedate and introspective cousin: Hallowe'en.
Still unsure? Check out the video below:
Yes Chloë, I too am afraid of three day weekends with Casey Spooner, Marcia Cross, and Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon. So get ready to...

Her new film is about the invention of the vibrator, and there is a YouTube campaign to cast her in Fifty Shades of Grey. Emine Saner meets actor and serial bonnet-wearer Felicity Jones
Every profile of Felicity Jones tends to breathlessly announce that the actor is on the brink of superstardom, though since these interviews go back to 2008, you wonder how long this can continue. "I understand it," she says. "It's a way of selling something. I think you have to zone a lot of those things out, and people will take notice when you do something interesting."
Of course, judging success by fame is too blunt a measure for an actor who insists she picks her jobs according to how interesting she finds them, not on whether they will catapult her on to magazine covers: she turned down the lead in the big-budget Mirror Mirror, with Julia Roberts as the evil queen,...

Since Una Stubbs's film debut half a century ago, she's never been out of work. With a string of memorable TV series to her name, from Till Death Do Us Part to Sherlock, how does she feel now about her return to the National theatre stage at 75?
Una Stubbs can't quite believe she's being interviewed. "So who else are you speaking to from this production?" she asks when we meet backstage at the National Theatre. No one, I tell her. Just you. Behind her round-framed spectacles, Stubbs's eyes widen anxiously. "Oh," she says, brow crinkling. "Really?"
You might expect Una Stubbs to be more convinced by her own reputation. At 75, she has starred in some of the most memorable television programmes of the past four decades (Till Death Us Do Part, Give Us a Clue, Worzel Gummidge, Sherlock) and been directed on stage by such theatrical luminaries as Sir Peter Hall and Michael Grandage.

"She was insane. She writes a book every year cataloguing their relationship, she's obsessed," laughs Felicity Jones, the star of poignant romantic drama Like Crazy.
"I'm much more reticent and cautious. It wouldn't be interesting watching someone being normal and reticent, it is mild insanity, but that's more entertaining, and maybe that's what love is."
Jones is reflecting on the unique experience of playing the part of Anna, the crazily-in-love British student who falls, hard, for Californian carpenter Jacob (Anton Yelchin) during her exchange year. Director Drake Doremus captures on film that bewitching experience of first love where all goes well until practical things like visas, families and other people threaten to prick their romantic bubble.
The film is an intimate, intense affair to experience - was it the same to film? Jones nods vigorously:

Enclosed but transmitting, composed but aquiver, Kristin Scott Thomas is an ideal Pinter actress. She manages, in the way that some actresses mysteriously do, to pull the audience's attention towards her face (not, after all, a very big thing on the stage), where the play's action is reflected in small stiffenings and relaxations and a wave of inflections. She is still, often keeping herself to herself by wrapping her arms around her body, so that when she reaches her arm towards her future lover, it seems an extraordinary act of abandonment. She is an object of desire but she is also a force. She makes response look active.

"Oh, she's such a pretty little thing," says Ian. "Tiny. Gorgeous."
"What's the name of that actress in Breakfast at Tiffany's?" asks Perry.
Audrey Hepburn?
"Exactly, she's got a real Audrey Hepburn look about her."
She has. Even in the baggy snowboarding outfits she wore in Chalet Girl, she has the kind...

The UK may be struggling to keep up with the rest of the world in the arena of football, but we’re at least producing some top quality actors. Here’s Matthew’s pick of upcoming talent…
In a review I read for the BBC film, Dive, it stated, "It is lucky that, at a time when we are failing miserably to produce young footballers, we are producing such wonderful young actors." I'm not exactly sure why one would make up for the other, but I agree with the assertion. We have some great young actors and our young footballers are rubbish. Did we need to attack him to take the images off his site? Hell no. Consider it a cherry on top. Plus, he sort of looks like a zombie now, so he's probably geeking out about that - so no hard feelings. So check these out. You've got... A crew of misfits with shotguns A guy desperately trying to get into a car with zombies a few inches away A crazy gun enthusiast who loves killing stuff A baseball bat to the skull of a somnambulist in...
