Melinda Dillon, a two-time Oscar nominee for Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Absence of Malice who also played Ralphie’s mom in A Christmas Story, has died. She was 83. Her family said she died January 9 in Los Angeles but did not give other details.
Dillon and Richard Dreyfuss in ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind,’ 1977
Dillon probably is best known for playing a mother whose young son is abducted by the aliens in Steven Spielberg’s 1977 epic Close Encounters of the Third Kind. She and Roy (Richard Dreyfuss) inexplicably are drawn to Devils Tower in Wyoming as they struggle to make sense of what has happened to them. She earned a Supporting Actress Oscar nom for the role.
She also played the mother of the young lead Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) in the 1983 holiday classic A Christmas Story, memorably warning the boy who wants a Bb rifle that, “You’ll shoot your eye out!

On September 12th, 2003, the world bid a sad farewell to the Man in Black, Johnny Cash. The 71-year-old American icon was still grieving the loss four months earlier of his wife of 35 years, June Carter Cash, when he died from complications from diabetes in the early-morning hours at Nashville’s Baptist Hospital.

Cowboy Jack Clement, legendary in music circles for everything from being present at the birth of rock ‘n’ roll at Sun Studios to writing hits for Johnny Cash to eventually working with U2, has been pegged as the subject of a feature film that Nashville’s Visionary Media Group has signed a deal with Clement’s estate to develop.
Additionally, plans are afoot for an all-star album that would have singers and songwriters that knew Clement finishing and recording unfinished songs that he left behind. Clement died in 2013 at age 82, just a few months after being named as an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Further Clement-related projects could be in the works down the road, but the film and album will be the initial focus in a deal made between the late producer-songwriter’s family, represented by daughter Alison Clement, and Visionary Media Group, a still fairly...

A script nearly seven years in the making about an enduring friendship steeped in multicultural Australia has taken the next steps toward production after receiving development support from Screen Australia’s Generate Fund.
Buddy comedy Carmen & Bolude follows the titular characters on a journey from Harlem, New York to Sydney, where they have ten days to collect 100 ‘welcomes’ so that Bolude’s traditional Nigerian father will agree to let her marry an Australian.
To be directed by Penelope Berkemeier (Game Night), the story is loosely based on the relationship between Nigerian-Australian Bolude Watson (Hearts and Bones) and Latin American-Australian Michela Carattini (Bite Club), co-writers of the script, who will also star in the film.
Watson was nominated for an Aacta Award in 2019 for her performance in Hearts and Bones, while also being named as a Casting Guild of Australia Rising Star in the same year.

“The Masked Singer” welcomed back after a two-week absence the celebrities in Group A on April 14. While this is only episode 6 of season 5, it is already the Group A final. Vying to continue on in the competition are three contenders who have been part of Group A since they first performed on March 10 — Robopine, Russian Dolls and Seashell — plus the Wild Card entry Orca, who first sang on March 24.
That episode marked the end of the line for Raccoon, who turned out to be “Machete” star Danny Trejo. He was bounced from the show after his cover of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash failed to ignite any passion from the four judges.
Conversely, Russian Dolls once again wowed the panel with their cover of the Shawn Mendes hit “Wonder.” We’ve watched that performance as well as their March 10 debut with “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. Keep...

I am a huge fan of Michael Jai White. From his roles opposite Don “The Dragon” Wilson in Ring of Fire and its second sequel Lion Strike, to the first time I watched his starring role as the titular hero in the movie adaptation of Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn, to his directorial debut Never Back Down 2 (a truly under-rated Dtv action movie sequel), I have sat through and thoroughly enjoyed a Lot of White’s movies.
Until now that is.
As I found with this flick, sometimes as a movie reviewer you come across a film that – despite it, on paper, ticking all your filmic checkboxes – really doesn’t click with you. For me, Falcon Rising is one such movie…...

In his 63 years as a film programmer, Bob Parr had never experienced anything like the current crisis as ticket sales flatlined across the country over the past few weeks.
“All exhibitors and distributors are losing a lot of money,” the Wallis Cinemas consultant told If on Sunday. “Many cinemas have closed because there are no patrons.
“Many small exhibitors make their living in school holidays and barely break even except for blockbusters during the remaining time. They are in the business because they love it.”
Later that day the Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced all cinemas and entertainment venues, registered and licensed clubs, hotels, pubs, casinos and nightclubs will close today.
Exhibitors and distributors had been steeling themselves for that decision after cinemas were shuttered in the Us, the UK and myriad other markets.

Television, film, and video games composer Daniel Licht, best known for his work on Showtime’s “Dexter,” died late Wednesday following a battle with cancer. He was 60. Originally from Detroit, Licht’s first major work was scoring the 1991 horror film “Children of the Night.” His compositions caught the attention of Clive Barker, who tapped Licht to score “Hellraiser: Bloodline.” Licht scored numerous horror films but also forayed into more mainstream fare like the Ben Stiller film “Permanent Midnight,” and indies like “The Winner” and “Cowboy Up.” Licht’s work on “Dexter” was well regarded, and each season’s soundtrack was released for sale.

Fan favorite finalist Bubba Thompson from Cmt's "Sweet Home Alabama" has written a book about love, dating, and the uniquely debonaire ways of a real cowboy. But before you read the Alabama charmer's book, check out Bubba's answers to our "Survey Says" questions:
What is your current computer desktop picture?
Open sky -- there's nothing better to look at for the soul.
What would you want to be written on your tombstone?
He lived an honest life and knew how to "Cowboy Up."
Do you believe in karma?
The way you treat others is the most important thing in a cowboy's life. Honoring and respecting others, your faith, your animals and your land -- it all comes back to you as karma in the end. This is one of the main themes in my new book.
What was the last lie you told?
"I only had one beer."
Do you have any strange phobias?...

"Cowboy Up" was a fun filler episode of The Client List.
It was really needed after the first couple episodes of the season and the tension of Kyle's return, the police searches and worry about Riley's future. Her future is hardly settled, but she was in a better place this week and less stressed. It was nice to get back to "normal," as normal as things can get for Riley Parks, that is.
Yikes. If Kyle is telling the truth, the copper wire he stole was only worth $20,000, but the creep Riley visited last week plans on lying about how much was stolen so he can scam the insurance company.
Therefore, he told the police it was worth $80,000. Now he knows who Riley is, that she's willing to give him money - and everything with that situation is just bad, bad, bad. Thankfully, it was just a teeny slice of the hour.
