UK kids wouldn’t have survived the 90s without The Crystal Maze, Knightmare, Gladiators and more…
Remember boredom? Boredom was to a nineties childhood what stress is to modern adulthood – a constant and inescapable presence, relieved only by television.
See related Gotham season 4 episode 7 review: A Day In The Narrows
The difference is, even television could be boring in the nineties. Grown-ups exclusively watched One Man And His Dog, The Budget and Ballykissangel, the sort of programmes that gave you Sunday-night-dread any day of the week. Try as you might to escape border collies, Kenneth Clarke and priests having harvest festival scrapes in picturesque Irish villages, it simply wasn’t possible. There were no streaming services to come to your rescue. Video rental was a birthdays-only treat. What else were you supposed to do? Read?

Watching this week's Made in Chelsea, we couldn't help but feel like that loser in Mean Girls who sobbed: "I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy."
But then, that wouldn't have made for very good TV, would it? And there's no doubt that this was a great instalment from Chelsea-land. So read on for our 16 best bits...
1. Spencer has a new Jeep!
We've missed Spenny's Jeep - he had one in series one that he used all the time to shuttle himself and Hugo about the place. So it was nice to see him in a new one with Mr Jamie Laing. And boy, he loves the car - though not as much as Lauren, apparently. "Girlfriends are replaceable as well," Jamie reminded him.

If you invite Keith Lemon into your house you're asking for trouble - and this week's Through the Keyhole celebrities discovered just that.
This weekend's episode sees panellists Craig Charles, Fearne Cotton and Dave Berry trying to work out "who habitates in a house like this".
But Keith is, as always, causing havoc as he tours the stars' homes.
In one house, the neat freak owner insists on guests wearing hotel slippers - but Keith leaves muddy footprints over the pristine cream carpets.
As if that wasn't enough, he then tries to shave a clue into one of the owner's pigs... but the porker is wise to his actions and refuses to let him come anywhere near.
In another house, Keith decides that one of the rooms needs a makeover and in true Changing Rooms style, he begins to paint a kitchen wall dark blue - but runs out of time and leaves it half-finished.

Forget all the cha cha cha-ing on Strictly and Louis Walsh's silliness on X Factor. The No.1 reality TV show of 2013 was most definitely the Great British Bake Off.
Making stars of its contestants and pulling in stupendously large ratings, it is a pop culture phenomenon and every TV commissioner in the land is looking for the "next Bake Off". Here are just a few of the shows hoping to match the success of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in 2014.
The Great Interior Design Challenge
The Premise: We really need to find Britain's keenest amateur interior designers. Of course we do.
The Talent: Architecture and design critic for The Times Tom Dyckhoff leads the hunt and is joined by judges Daniel Hopwood, award-winning architect and interior designer, and Sophie Robinson, ex-editor of BBC Good Homes and Interior Designer. Niche is the word you're looking for.

The Borgias season three finale will be its last ever episode on Showtime, and follow-up movie plans have also been scrapped...
As Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen repeatedly proved on Changing Rooms, recreating the opulence of Renaissance Italy doesn't come cheap (he was always over budget, that fluffy-haired scamp). That's one of the reasons Showtime has called time on pricy costume drama, The Borgias.
Currently in its third season, which concludes next week on Sunday the 16th of June, The Borgias will not be returning for a fourth run, nor will the proposed two-hour finale happen. Showrunner Neil Jordan has expressed regret for the series' early departure, saying "I would have loved to bring all the characters to a conclusion. All of the actors were heartbroken we couldn’t continue, and so was I."

Veteran Olympian Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards has won ITV's celebrity diving competition 'Splash!'
His triumph comes 25 years after he shot to fame with the world's worst Olympic ski jump at the winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada.
He knocked actor Jake Canuso into second place and Linda Barker, of the BBC's 'Changing Rooms', into third.
The Eagle landed perfectly with his first dive and taking a maximum 30 points for the two-and-a-half somersault from the 10 metre board.
It had not been an easy week for Edwards who lost his confidence in training with a series of painful belly and back flops.
But with his game face on and after his flawless showing, celebrity judge Jo Brand told him: "You just need to master hang gliding and you could be the next Milk Tray man."

There are three stories you'll hear about The Lord of the Rings in New Zealand. You should probably help Pretty Little Liars win the Best High School Show Ever Competition. You should probably do that.
Previously on Pretty Little Liars, the girls learned via sex, lies, and videotape that neither Noel, Jenna, or Garrett was responsible for Maya's death (Ali? No one cares about her anymore). It begins with a great big flamey bang – coming straight after the repeat omnibus of EastEnders, I'm convinced that somehow slimy freak Yusef has survived the devastating inferno at Patrick Trueman's B&B and gone on to wreak pyromaniacal havoc aboard a spaceship. We're never told, but The Doctor's in big, big trouble here – the only way out is to grab hold of a handy protective spacesuit and float towards the Earth like a futuristic version of the Bullseye mascot.
Compare that to the two approaches to the Christmas specials. Russell T Davies, for the most part, looked to familiar movies and movie genres for his Crimbo tales – Independence Day for The Christmas Invasion , screwball comedies for The Runaway Bride and...

This collection of retrospective programmes documents and explores different aspects of British art and design over the last century. Over a week, Sky Arts takes a nostalgic look at the pre and post war development of fashion, interior design and architecture from the mid 40s to late 80s. Monday kicks off with the 1940s' version of Changing Rooms, as 'Miss Design' and 'Miss Arty' advise two young newlyweds on the dos and don'ts of 1940's home furnishing in Designing Women.

There is one element in Paul Lee's background that in my opinion makes him well equipped for his new job as ABC Entertainment Group president. It's not his 6-year tenure as president of ABC Family, he will find soon enough that broadcast TV is a whole new ball game. It's not his degree from Oxford either, it is probably too highbrow for the populist nature of U.S. broadcast TV. It is Lee's very first job out of college as a BBC reporter stationed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, covering the conflict during a particularly critical period. If he wasn't afraid to step into a real-life crossfire, he probably won't be intimidated by facing critics and reporters at TCA on Sunday or tough talent negotiations and difficult decisions at ABC in the future. Lee, who turned 50 a couple of weeks ago, is asked to build a third consecutive TV network almost from scratch.

NBC's "The Office" is a remake of BBC's "The Office." It feels howlingly stupid to write this because it is assumed (rightly) that everyone knows this already. The reason everyone knows this has a lot to do with things that would probably take too much time to unpack in a Seriously Random List, like the heightened awareness among today's TV watchers of how their sausage is made as well as the surge in popularity and accessibility of foreign television thanks to DVDs and online streaming. But the takeaway is that there are and have been plenty of series that have found success here in the U.S. that were based on British shows, which is how this list came together. If you never knew that some of these shows were remakes, now you can impress and potentially bore people at parties. (If you already knew that each of these was a remake,...

The non-executive chairman of two of Sony’s UK television divisions – one of which is Simon Cowell’s Syco -- is probably the most colourful character on the scene. “Baz”, as he is known, was chief creative officer of Endemol until 2007. He imported Big Brother from the Netherlands, pretty much inventing reality TV. And he personally dreamt up the Ready Steady Cook and Changing Rooms formats, which have sold around the world. The Daily Mail named him as one of the "Ten Worst Britons" for Endemol's reality show The Farm, in which David Beckham’s ex-lover became intimate with a pig. [...]...

Carol Smillie has admitted that she is nervous about taking part in ITV1 series Marco's Kitchen Burnout. The 48-year-old former Changing Rooms presenter confessed that she is more used to working with a "power tool" than a "wooden spoon". "I suppose it was a bit unusual, but predominantly I am happier with a power tool in my hand doing Diy, than a wooden spoon cooking," she said. "My husband used to do most of the meals, but then got in a bit of a strop about it, and said it wasn't fair. Now we split the cooking and Diy between us. So I am hoping on Marco's (more)...

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has claimed that there is "nothing sexier than opera". The Classic FM DJ, who will be a critic on new ITV1 reality series Popstar To Operastar, also said that he was pleased the genre was being taken "out of the musty old drawer" and brought into the mainstream. "We're surrounded by opera the whole time," the former Changing Rooms presenter told ITV. "Opera's as much part of our lives as rock 'n' roll, but we don't always recognise it. "Opera always comes out on the biggest occasions, like Royal weddings and funerals. At the World Cup, we get the Three Tenors. 'Rule (more)...

If Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is ever in need of a challenging (and well-paid) interior design job then he might want to take a crack at Will Smith's plush Hollywood mansion. Sadly, we've checked every phone book going and there's no sign of a number for the Fresh Prince. Fortunately for everyone's favourite foppish Changing Rooms presenter, Digital Spy has discovered a way that he can track down Will with a trip through the jungle, an '80s popstar and a film called Six Degrees Of Separation! Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to... Kerry Katona - Whatever you do, don't mention reality TV celebs to Laurence. Despite featuring in his own fly-on-the-wall show for Living, he's not too impressed by "famous for being famous" reality stars, singling out Kerry Katona as a prime offender. "I feel aggravated by these whitebait (more)...
