Fine 'Woman's Picture' by Asia & Bud
lor_26 January 2024
Asia Carrera and Bud Lee made this very serious erotic drama for VCA, apparently too highbrow for gonzo audiences. Its Old School approach to erotic cinema is refreshing 25-plus years later.

What makes this one work (and is undoubtedly not the wall-to-wall sex that has destroyed Adult Cinema) is the placing of explicit sex scenes firmly within a believable, well-acted story context. Asia opens the movie in her doctor's office, with mammogram results indicating possible breast cancer, with lab results to come.

She fears the worst and her husband Steve Hatcher sympathizes, but seems a bit remote, also trying to cope with the bad news. Feature is titled "Betrayal" because she convinces Hatcher that she's facing death, and wants to live it up while she still can, meaning sex with other people. But when the doc gives her good news, that her lumps are benign and can be removed by a simple operation, she doesn't tell Hatcher, leading to big problems when he eventually finds out.

With Missy and Alexandra Silk in the supporting cast it's a sexy picture, loaded with beautifully styled Asia in sex footage. I enjoyed the soap opera emphasis of the story, definitely out of favor nowadays.
