Hollywood’s It girl, Sydney Sweeney, has recently stood out as the face of budding Hollywood. The Spokane girl recently appeared in a host of projects across various genres. Starting from her rom-com alongside Glen Powell, Anyone But You to her Marvel-Sony outing with Madame Web, and her horror-thriller, Immaculate, she has dominated most of the screens in early 2024. Now, the road is all but set for her to switch to another genre and essay a biopic with David Michôd serving as its director.

Madame Web arrived in theaters earlier this year and is seemingly destined to go down as one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
With 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, it earned only $100.3 million at the worldwide box office, making it a critical and commercial flop Sony won't easily recover from. Of course, it's too late now to change its 2024 slate as Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter are fast approaching.
Box office numbers like the ones above confirm the vast majority of fans and regular moviegoers didn't bother seeing Madame Web on the big screen, but you'll soon be able to watch it at home... provided you have a Netflix subscription.
When does Madame Web premiere on Netflix?
The streaming service has confirmed today that the Marvel movie will hit the streaming platform on May 14; that's right, you have only two weeks to wait until you can experience Madame Web...

The upcoming MCU film Thunderbolts is currently in production, scheduled to be released in May 2025. The Florence Pugh and David Harbour starrer reportedly added another member to its cast. Mulan’s Liu Yifei is reportedly the newest addition to the cast of Thunderbolts. The film is directed by Jake Schreier and also stars Sebastian Stan and Lewis Pullman.
While IMDb shows Liu Yifei as simply an ‘Agent’, fans have been speculating about which role the actress would be playing. While Marvel boasts of many Asian-origin superheroes, only some have had associations with the Thunderbolts. Hence, here are three Marvel heroes that the Chinese superstar could play in the upcoming film.

The Thunderbolts were initially formed as a group of villains masquerading as superheroes after the Avengers were declared to be missing.

The popularity and success of the Spider-Verse animated franchise have inspired Sony to introduce shared Spider-people-oriented world-building gimmicks in live-action movies as well, and Madame Web is the first step in that direction. As a part of Sony’s existing Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), which includes movies like Venom, Morbius, and the upcoming Kraven, Madame Web will introduce the titular spider-themed clairvoyant as well as a host of female spider-characters, as the movie aims to become the franchise’s first female superhero ensemble.
However, despite the fact that these characters are prominent members of the Spider-Society, appearing across comics, animated series, and games for a couple of decades, they are relatively obscure to the general audience due to not having a presence in live-action movies yet. This can make enjoying a superhero team-up movie a bit of a challenging affair, and to get rudimentary knowledge about the characters in question,...

Gwen has to keep her identity a secret from him while he leads the hunt to capture Spider-Woman once and for all.

Sony is expanding the scope of its corner of the Marvel universe with another "Spider-Man" spin-off movie next year in the form of "Madame Web." While Dakota Johnson will be playing the titular character in director S.J. Clarkson's film, much has been made of "Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney's casting and who she might be playing. Now, we know for sure, and it very much sounds like she could have a future as a major Marvel superhero.
In a recent profile of Sweeney by Variety, it was confirmed that the actress will be playing none other than Julia Carpenter. In the pages of Marvel Comics, this is one of the personas who eventually becomes Spider-Woman. However, it was not explicitly stated that she would be playing Spider-Woman in this film, though one assumes that would be the way to go. Sweeney, commenting on it, explained that she was very excited.

A standalone Spider-Woman movie is happening, though there are a lot of other question marks around it. Producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad talked to Variety on May 31 about some Sony Spider-projects coming down the pipe, including plans for another Tom Holland movie, a live-action Miles Morales film, and the upcoming "Madame Web" feature. Arad told the outlet that a standalone "Spider-Woman" film will be out "sooner than you expect." He added, "I cannot tell you yet, but it's coming."
The question remains, though, if it will be a live-action Spider-Woman movie or an animated spinoff of the Miles Morales "Spider-Verse" films. We may be counting down the days until the much-anticipated animated sequel Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse hits cinemas – but don’t forget, anyone can wear the mask, and judging by comments made by Spidey producer Amy Pascal at Spider-Verse’s premiere this week, we could be seeing a whole lot more web-slinging on the big screen soon.
Speaking to Variety, when asked about the possibility of a Spider-Woman film and a live-action Miles Morales (currently voiced by Shameik Moore), Pascal said “You’ll see all of it. It’s all happening.” That is, admittedly, not a lot to go on. But – it doesn’t rule them out! It sounds pretty encouraging, in fact, that the version of Spidey that so many have fallen love with in the animated Spider-Verse could be given his own 3D outing. For years, fans have been wondering if Miles Morales would make his way into live-action. But if producer Amy Pascal is to be believed, that wait may soon be over.
While speaking with Variety during the red carpet premiere of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" in Los Angeles last night, Pascal -- who has produced all of the Tom Holland "Spider-Man" films, the two "Venom" movies, and the two "Spider-Verse" films -- said there are even more Spider-projects on the way.
When Variety's interviewer apparently asked if a live-action Miles Morales movie is in the works, she confirmed it is, saying, "You'll see all of it. It's all happening."
That's great news -- if it's actually true. It would certainly make financial sense for Sony to double down on its Spider-properties and mine that IP for as much as it possibly can, especially given how popular Miles has become in the wake of these animated films.

With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse finally hitting theaters in just a few days, audiences will be thrust back into the world of Miles Morales. "Tron: Legacy" actress Olivia Wilde will direct Marvel Studios' "Spider-Woman" feature for Sony Pictures, focusing on the web-slinging origins of Marvel Comics' 'Jessica Drew':
"...'Jessica Drew' was bitten by a venomous spider as a child. Her father saved her life by injecting her with an experimental 'spider serum' which also granted her superhuman powers.
"As an adult, Jessica is editor of 'Justice Magazine', alongside 'Jeff Hunt' and Jessica's teenage nephew 'Billy'. When trouble arises, Jessica slips away to change into her secret identity of 'Spider-Woman'.'
"Spider-Woman retains the ability to fire bursts of energy from her hands called 'venom blasts'. A clairvoyant 'spider-sense' allows her to see dangers as they happen.
"No matter where she is, she can close her eyes and see the event. She can also project spider-like 'weblines' from the palms of her hands or an individual finger.
"She also has the ability to change into costume by spinning around.

This week I have a brilliant Q and A with Sumyra of Lucky Target Comics. I discovered Lucky Target Comics last summer after seeing a Tweet from the writer of Alex Automatic, Fraser Campbell. He had scored an excellent collection of Daredevil issues from the site, a number of which I myself had on my want list. The site is easy to navigate and find the issues you are looking for. They offer a good selection of newer and older back issues, as well as trade paperbacks and bundles of complete runs. More sellers should be doing this in my opinion. It is a great way to attract readers who are either completely new to comics or old fans looking for something new to read. I found everything I wanted at the time more than reasonably priced. I was able to check off some later 200 issues of Daredevil as well...

If there’s one Star Wars actor who will struggle after their time in the movies, Daisy Ridley is at the top. What was that hilarious joke from the Family Guy Star Wars episodes? Oh, it was something that Peter said when he was playing as Han Solo in the first episode. When he introduced himself to Chris and Herbert (playing Luke and Obi-Wan), he proudly said he was Han Solo and the only actor who’s career wasn’t destroyed by that movie. Oh boy, if Star Wars fans did the research, they would really get the joke. It’s actually kind of

Animation producer David H. DePatie died on Sept. 23 of natural causes at the age of 91. DePatie is known for founding DePatie Freleng Enterprises with partner Friz Freleng, which is best known for the “Pink Panther” cartoon series.
DePatie was also the last executive in charge of the original Warner Bros. Cartoons cartoon studio, as well as an executive producer at Marvel Productions.
After Warner Bros. closed its animation studio in 1963, DePatie’s production company was formed at the former Warner cartoons studio on California Street in Burbank, Calif. Director Blake Edwards contacted DePatie Freleng Enterprises and asked them to design a panther character for “The Pink Panther” feature film, which eventually led to a contract with the company to produce animated titles for the film. The whimsical titles drew attention to the features, which had a successful run in the 1960s and ’70s and were later revived.

Sony have always held a reputation for not knowing how to handle their biggest and most lucrative properties, especially when it comes to Spider-Man. Studio interference heavily compromised Sam Raimi’s third movie and led to him walking away altogether, while the desire to build a shared universe as quickly as possible ultimately killed The Amazing Spider-Man series entirely.
Realizing the error of their ways, they eventually leased the web-slinger to Marvel Studios, where Tom Holland’s Peter Parker instantly became one of the McU’s standout characters. Presumably driven by jealousy, though, Sony shockingly withdrew Spider-Man from their rival studio’s shared universe last summer, before eventually relenting and striking a new deal with Kevin Feige’s team.

Now, however, we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who said Tom Holland is in talks for a Venom 2 cameo and a live-action Bambi movie is in the works, both of which have since been confirmed – that they’re also developing a Spider-Woman movie, and it’ll have an interesting twist to it.

In anticipation of "Spider-Woman" appearing on streaming service Disney+, Marvel Comics' upcoming "Spider-Woman" title, written by Karla Pcheco and illustrated by Pere Perez, with a cover by Junggeun Yoon will be available March 2020:
Many characters have taken up the mantle of 'Spider-Woman' but the original was 'Jessica Drew' debuting in "Marvel Spotlight" #32 (1977), created by Archie Goodwin, Sal Buscema and Jim Mooney. She is the daughter of 'Jonathan' and 'Merriam Drew', born in London, England and at a young age, was lethally poisoned by radiation while living near 'Mount Wundagore' in 'Transia'.
To try to save her life, her father injected her with an experimental serum based on irradiated spiders' blood. Because the serum did not have any apparent effect on her, 'Henry Wyndham', aka the 'High Evolutionary', placed her in a genetic accelerator that slowed her aging.
Years later, 'Hydra' under the control of 'Count Otto Vermis',...
