Sam Raimi found huge success with the ‘Spider-Man’ film trilogy, each installment grossing over $800 million worldwide. However, plans for further sequels were derailed due to script issues. Raimi aimed to redeem himself after disappointment with ‘Spider-Man 3’ by planning ‘Spider-Man 4,’ which never came to fruition. In 2022, he expressed regret about not ending the franchise on a high note after the least successful installment.
However, Raimi’s involvement with Spider-Man didn’t end there. He and Marc Webb later served as creative consultants for Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ directed by Jon Watts. Recently, rumors have surfaced that Raimi could direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ a highly anticipated installment in the ‘Avengers’ franchise.
Sam Raimi talked about the rumors at this year’s WonderCon, admitting he’d love to work with Marvel again and direct the upcoming ‘Avengers.’

"X-Men '97" brings back the marvelous mutants as if they never left TV screens after the original series finale, "Graduation Day." The trailer promised a tone and style befitting the original, plus plenty of Marvel comic book Easter eggs.
Now, the X-Men are larger than life — and ultimately, any one actor. In the 27-year hiatus between the 1992 series and this revival, the X-Men finally made it to live-action (we ranked their cinematic adventures here) and starred in other animated series. Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of a specific version of the X-Men, though, the show has brought back cast members and creatives from the original show. If they hadn't, then why revive this series instead of just making a new "X-Men" cartoon?
In its opening titles, "X-Men" would introduce each member of the team one-by-one with hero shots demonstrating their powers and/or quirks alongside huge text displaying their names.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is fondly remembered for so many reasons. On the lighter side, it introduced us all to a valley-slang inspired dialect known as "Buffy speak" and gave us the enduringly heartwarming bonds between the members of the Scoobie Gang. But if "Buffy" was all jokes and wholesome fare, it wouldn't have become the cult hit it did, and it certainly wouldn't have gained a reputation for producing some of the best episodes of TV ever.
Just take a look at "The Body" from season 5. The episode opens with a one-take scene in which the titular slayer walks into her house to discover her mother's lifeless body laying on the couch. It's the episode show creator, "Avengers" director, and all-round prolific creative Joss Whedon considers the greatest thing he's ever done, and is also considered by many to be a standout moment in TV history generally.

Superhero movies had entered something of a transitional period in 2007. Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" run had reached an unplanned end with the tepidly received "Spider-Man 3," leaving Sony facing the daunting prospect of rebooting a franchise that still had plenty of box office juice (the third installment racked up the webslinger's highest worldwide gross to date). Bryan Singer whiffed badly on the hugely expensive "Superman Returns," forcing Warner Bros. to pin its DC Comics hopes almost exclusively on Christopher Nolan's forthcoming sequel to "Batman Begins" (which was a modest commercial success). 20th Century Fox's "Fantastic Four" grossed just enough to merit a sequel, while the future of the "X-Men" franchise rested solely on the yoked shoulders of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
And then there was Marvel Studios, which, after watching their most popular characters make billions for other companies, yearned to control the narrative destinies of the characters they hadn't sold off.

Chris Evans was so well cast as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that it seemed like he was simply playing himself onscreen. He’s just another perfectly cast star in the franchise.
However, there were so many other actors who also wanted the part and put up a good fight for it!
The actor brought Steve Rogers to life on the big screen starting in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger. He seemingly bowed out almost a decade later with Avengers: Endgame.
But was that really the end for him? Chris addressed his future within the franchise during a new interview, revealing if he was really done with the role or if there was a possible return in his future.
Additionally, while he is now synonymous with the part, Chris initially turned it down. Who might have picked up the shield if he never agreed to lead the Avengers?...

Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" and Louis Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk" (both 2008) in many important ways weren't yet part of the then-nascent Marvel Cinematic Universe when they were first made. Favreau put in a post-credits stinger with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury more as a wink to fans than as an announcement that larger film projects were afoot. Additionally, Downey's cameo in "Incredible" was treated equally casually, with the actors reportedly improvising their dialogue. It would only be until after Disney purchased the Marvel library in 2009 that plans for an MCU would be put into place in earnest. In many ways, then, it would be Favreau's "Iron Man 2" in 2010 that launched the MCU properly and put plans for an "Avengers" feature film into motion.

Marvel Studios’ new series Echo is only a month away, and it’s turning a lot of heads by boasting the mature content it is said to feature. The show that connects to the MCU joins the gritty takes that have been emulated from similar Marvel shows like Daredevil and The Punisher, which feature lower-level urban-type threats, and our heroes don’t hold back on the brutality of justice or vengeance. The juggernaut film and TV studio recently held an advance screening of the first two episodes and reactions recently have poured onto social media. While the attendees have kept their lips tight on details, they do reiterate how incredibly dark the show was.
A user with the handle @twpercival1 posted, “Saw the first two episodes of #echo tonight and have a lot of thoughts. I think fans of Netflix’s Daredevil are going to love it. It’s like...

The modern comic book movie era -- which began in, take your pick, 1998 with Stephen Norrington's surprise hit "Blade", 2000 with Bryan Singer's bonafide blockbuster "X-Men," or 2002 with Sam Rami's four-quadrant phenomenon "Spider-Man -- might've looked a lot different had certain key players signed on to write and/or direct different projects that were in the works at the same time as the films wound up turning superhero flicks into the dominant genre of the 21st century thus far (though that may be changing).
The period between the release of "Blade" and the shocking success of Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" was rife with maneuvering within multiple studios, particularly when it came to the Marvel Universe. 20th Century Fox controlled the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, Sony owned Spider-Man, Universal had the Hulk and Sub-Mariner, and New Line battled like hell to make an...

"The Incredible Hulk" was an early stumbling block for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Released in June 2008, a mere month after "Iron Man," lightning did not strike twice for Marvel Studios' burgeoning movie enterprise; "Incredible Hulk" got a shrug from critics and underperformed at the box office.
Even so, Marvel Studios steamrolled ahead. Star Edward Norton didn't return for any future MCU films and Bruce Banner was recast with Mark Ruffalo for "The Avengers." The behind-the-scenes book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" by Dave Gonzales, Gavin Edwards, and Joanna Robinson features a chapter about "The Incredible Hulk" and its gamma radiation-flavored fallout. The book ultimately puts the production's unpleasant memories on the shoulders of Edward Norton, suggesting his actor-as-auteur approach solidified Marvel's top-down filmmaking tactics.
An unnamed "Marvel performer" tells the authors, "We have a no-a**hole policy on our movies," and the book traces this policy back to Norton's behavior.

Historically, it’s been pretty common to see beloved arcade games ported from the retro platform to consoles. From Mortal Kombat to Pac-Man, many of the definitive arcade experiences have been remade, revamped, and rejuvenated decades after their initial launch. However, countless beloved arcade titles have never been given that same treatment. Video game history might be defined by classic arcade titles, but those throwback gems haven’t always been protected and preserved.
While not all of those games are as well-known and influential on the gaming industry as the arcade’s greatest hits, they are still memorable in their own ways. It’s doubtless that there are nostalgic fans out there still hoping for a current console iteration of these releases sometime in the future. Sadly, the fact remains that none of these titles have ever received a proper console port in their original arcade forms.

The upcoming release of What If...? Season 2 will feature a team of Avengers that is new for the show in some ways, and familiar to MCU fans in others.
The second season of the McU's first animated Disney+ original series premieres on December 22, with one episode releasing each day through December 30. This marks the first time the MCU is using this release schedule for a single project.
This is one of two shows to see experimentation in how it is released over the next couple months, with Echo being the McU's first live-action Disney+ show to have all its episodes released at once.

Since her debut in 1999’s Daredevil #9, written by David Mack and penciled by Joe Quesada, Echo has gone through many changes. Readers first met Echo as Maya Lopez, an unwitting pawn in the mind games the Kingpin Wilson Fisk played against Matt Murdock. Like Daredevil, Lopez uses her different abilities as a superpower, as her deafness makes her a more attentive observer, resulting in photographic reflexes.
Lopez initially used those abilities to become Echo, a hero with fighting skills on par with Daredevil or Bullseye. Later, she took the name Ronin, a mysterious ninja who fought alongside the Avengers. Most recently, Echo acquired the Phoenix Force and joined the Avengers as Thunderbird.
Next year, Echo makes her most audacious move yet, becoming the main character in a live-action Disney+ series. Played by the Menominee and Mohican actor Alaqua Cox, who is deaf like her character, Echo first emerged in the MCU during Hawkeye season one.

Updated, 8:15 Am: Amid all the turmoil in the MCU of late, Disney now has one less battle to fight.
After more than two years, Disney and subsidiary Marvel have reached a settlement with the estate of acclaimed comic book artist Steve Ditko. Lawyers for the Mouse House and the Ditko estate filed court papers on December 6 that effectively ended the pricey dispute. A final affirmation of the settlement is expected in the coming weeks.
Represented by pugilistic copyright attorney Marc Toberoff, the Ditko estate in 2021 had sought termination notices on the rights to such luminaries as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Iron Man. Other artists’ families and heirs also challenged the rights to characters created by their family members. Those disputes were resolved earlier this year.
As in previous settlements and resolutions that Disney/Marvel have reached with the likes of the Jack Kirby estate and others, the settlement with the Ditko estate is confidential.

The world of "Poor Things" is a cornucopia of zany imagery and the costumes are no exception. The clothes themselves tell a story, and the silhouettes are crucial in creating this whimsical imagery. However, some of these elegant shapes were created using rather inelegant methods.
Mark Ruffalo stars in Yorgos Lanthimos' newest film as a fun-loving lawyer named Wedderburn who falls in love with a mad scientist's latest experiment, Bella (played brilliantly by Emma Stone), and runs away with her. The actor describes his eccentric character as "a bon vivant, a total egoist, and megalomaniac" in an interview with Indiewire. Ruffalo might be playing a romantic hero in the film, but Wedderburn is far from a traditional leading man. Even his backside is unconventional — so much so that it required a bit of movie magic. To achieve his cartoonish look, Ruffalo had to wear a butt pad while shooting "Poor Things,...

Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo first met 28 years ago, through their girlfriends at the time, before hunting a serial killer in David Fincher’s “Zodiac,” and well before battling Thanos in Marvel’s “Avengers” movies. The milage on their friendship shows in their shared enthusiasm for their electrifying performances this year: Downey in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” as the calculating U.S. Atomic Energy Commission official Lewis Strauss, and Ruffalo in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” as Duncan Wedderburn, an unscrupulous libertine. Both actors stretched far beyond their well-established movie star personas, and they were eager to ask each other about how they’d done it.
Robert Downey Jr.: We really met when Fincher cast us in “Zodiac.”
Mark Ruffalo: What a wild ride that was.
Downey: I remember that was maybe the first time we really had our feet put to the fire with an exacting director who does things a certain way.

Whether it’s true or not, 2023 will largely go down as a bad year for Marvel Studios. A couple of the films greatly underperformed (“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels”) and one of the TV shows was just a big turd (“Secret Wars”). This has ignited rumors and speculation that Marvel Studios might be panicking and attempting to woo back its big “Avengers” cast to return to help revitalize a franchise that is surprisingly on the ropes.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the sequel to the pandemic hit Godzilla vs Kong that released in 2021 directly simultaneously on HBO Max and theaters. That movie pitted the two Monsterverse titans against each other for the most part. This sequel sees them team up together again to take on a new enemy. “A colossal creature that lives beneath the surface” is the threat. It will be interesting to see where this goes. This franchise might keep going until we have some sort of an Avengers team-up at some point.
The film stars Rebecca Hall , Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Fala Chen.
It is slated for release nationwide only in theaters and IMAX on April 12, 2024 and beginning April 10, 2024 internationally, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures except in Japan, where the film will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd and in mainland China, where it will be distributed by Legendary East.

Over the past few weeks, rumors started swirling about the original Avengers team returning to the MCU somewhere in the future. It got die-hard fans excited, of course, but as it turns out, everything we’ve heard was, in fact, only rumors.
First, Chris Evans – the original Captain America in the MCU – stated that the rumors about a potential MCU return were ‘news to me’ and that no one spoke to him about it. He would ‘never say never,’ but it would have to be just right.
But now, it seems that the Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, officially closed the door on those rumors. Specifically, he closed the doors on rumors that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man may return to the MCU.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Feige addressed Tony Stark’s final moments and the emotion behind it, stating that they’d never just make it irrelevant:

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man will not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — at least according to Kevin Feige.
In an interview with Vanity Fair about the third act of Downey’s decades-long career, the president of Marvel Studios addressed the rumors that all the original Avengers would be returning in one form or another in a future MCU phase.
“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again,” Feige told the publication about Tony Stark’s emotional final moments in Avengers: Endgame. “We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
It seems difficult to imagine a Marvel universe that does not include Downey, but before he was cast in the crucial role of Iron Man, the studio was hesitant about casting him, despite Feige and director Jon Favreau vying for him.

It's easy to forget, in our superhero-fatigued world of 2023, just how much of a stranglehold "Avengers: Infinity War" had on pop culture back in 2018. Although most of us understood that the effects of Thanos' snap would eventually be undone, that didn't stop the movie's ending from feeling like a genuinely devastating blow. Fans were crying in theaters, and other fans (allegedly) were so stressed out they had to be taken out of the theater by paramedics.
Fans impatiently waited a year for "Avengers: Endgame" to give them a satisfying conclusion, but for the writers there was one big problem: How would our heroes defeat Thanos without it feeling repetitive, or like a copout? "Infinity War" was basically just the Avengers trying and failing to stop Thanos' quest for the infinity stones for two and a half hours straight, so was "Endgame" going to be just another two and a half...

Fans had a lot to say following the announcement regarding Avengers 5's official writer, with most either loving or hating the decision.
Avengers 5, which is officially titled The Kang Dynasty and will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, will be the first Avengers film to be released since 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Since the team-up films have seemingly gotten bigger in scale and raised the stakes with each passing installment, many are looking ahead at The Kang Dynasty with expectations that it will be one of, if not the, biggest MCU title in history.

The MCU’s current Peter Parker, Tom Holland, has been talking about the prospect of playing Spider-Man for a fourth time.
We’ve had three standalone Spider-Man films so far, with Tom Holland playing Peter Parker. And with Marvel Studios steering the ship and Sony Pictures (the rights holders to the character) taking a step back, it’s been a really fun ride.
The final moments of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home either serve as a fitting capstone to Holland’s time as the webslinger, or perfectly set up new adventures featuring a version of Spider-Man that is very familiar to audiences.
Whatever that next film looks like, it doesn’t appear to be on a fast track, with Holland stating after No Way Home that he wanted a rest from the character. Hopefully, Sony and Marvel are also learning the value of resting these properties, and as such,...

While Chris Evans says he has not spoken with his old pals at Marvel Studios for a return to his Captain America character, Wyatt Russell is set to make his return as John Walker for the new non-Avengers team-up movie Thunderbolts. Thunderbolts is also bringing together the talents of Florence Pugh as her Yelena character from Black Widow, as well as David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Sebastian Stan, Olga Kurylenko, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Harrison Ford taking over for the late William Hurt as Thunderbolt Ross.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are familiar with the running debate about who is the strongest Avenger. That’s one of those questions that has a lot of different answers, but we’re posing a different one today: Who is the richest member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes based on their estimated net worth?
Since assembling for the first time in 2012′s The Avengers, the lineup of the team has constantly changed between movies.
Of course, fans know and love the core group – Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye). However, so many other favorites have been added on along the way.
The cast is made up of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. But who has amassed the largest approximate net worth over the years? We did some digging and put together...

I am an old man. I'm not particularly old for, like, the Earth as Craig Robinson might say, but I'm just about entering my grandpa era in terms of the online culture. My time writing about movies online began in the mid-'90s while I was still in high school and that gave me a front row seat to the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe empire, so I remember that era very well.
When that first MCU end credits scene hit in "Iron Man," it was a mind-blower for many reasons. We'd never seen anything like that in blockbuster filmmaking. The shared universe idea is commonplace now, but back then the idea that Marvel could be building up to an "Avengers" crossover movie was so exciting.
However, for readers of movie rumors, that reveal was ... well, it was spoiled for them by the website I wrote for, Ain't It Cool News.

Jodie Foster Says ‘Team America: World Police’ Is Her ‘Number One’ Required Film Everyone Should See
Oscar-winning icon Jodie Foster is revealing her must-see films list…and let’s just say, it’s a little surprising.
The “Nyad” star said while in conversation with “Past Lives” actress Greta Lee for Interview magazine that she has two films she recommends everyone should watch. To note, Lee also appeared in Foster’s “Money Monster.”
Lee asked Foster, “What’s one movie you think everyone should see at least once?” to which Foster replied, “Well, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once.’ Oh, and this is probably number one — the puppet movie ‘Team America: World Police.'”
“Team America: World Police” was a 2004 political satire film directed by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The film centered around an “Avengers” style group of counterterrorist police officers deemed Team America. The force accidentally destroys a slew of international landmarks while trying to take down real-life North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

In the trailer for only his third directorial feature, filmmaker Zack Snyder was heralded with the title of “visionary.” In retrospect, you might label that many things: aspirational, hubris, or just plain, good old-fashioned marketing copy. Whatever the case might be, it had a point. Love or hate Snyder’s aesthetic, his films are visually and instantly recognizable, and they’ve found a fervent audience that is still tens of millions strong more than a decade after this sizzle reel.
But all that would come later. Back in 2009, the moniker was adorned on Snyder during the marketing push for Watchmen, the ambitious and sprawling attempt to turn Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ most influential graphic novel from the 1980s into a three-hour film (or about two hours and 45 minutes in the case of the original theatrical cut). The film could never lose points for daring, but it was analyzed mercilessly...

Avengers assemble! Orrrrr maybe not. When word began circulating that Marvel was looking to reunite The Avengers for future projects, a select group of the beloved MCU team started chiming in on the possibilities. Now joining Scarlett Johansson in the skepticism is Avengers star Chris Evans, who became an instant MCU favorite when he first played Captain America in 2011.
Chris Evans recently told The View that all of the rumors around an Avengers reunion may just be that: based on nothing. “You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me…I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting [Robert] Downey [Jr.] and [Chris] Hemsworth and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!” For her part, Johansson’s stance on being unsure of the team getting back together comes primarily due to Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow dying in Avengers: Endgame.

Christopher Nolan is praising Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen” for pushing the boundaries of superhero films.
Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel infamously underperformed at the box office, and starred Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Jackie Earle Haley, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Carla Gugino.
Now, “Oppenheimer” director Nolan is calling the film over a decade later “ahead of its time,” especially when capturing a superhero ensemble that Marvel’s “Avengers” made popular years later.
“I’ve always believed ‘Watchmen’ was ahead of its time,” Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter. “The idea of a superhero team, which it so brilliantly subverts, wasn’t yet a thing in movies.”
He added, “It would have been fascinating to see it released post-‘Avengers.'”

Stuntman, actor and martial artist Taraja Ramsess was killed in a car crash in Georgia along with three of his children.
Ramsess, who was 41, is best known for his work on the Black Panther and Avengers movies.

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios isn’t exactly enjoying the same level of praise it did during the Infinity Saga days, but The Marvels star Iman Vellani has a few suggestions to get the franchise back on track.

Chris Evans has heard the rumors of a possible Avengers reunion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next phase, but no one’s approached him about it thus far.
The Pain Hustlers star made an appearance on The View on Monday, where he discussed the rumors and if he’d ever return to his role of Captain America.
“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me,” Evans said on the daytime talk show. “I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting [Robert] Downey [Jr.] and [Chris] Hemsworth and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!”
The actor didn’t outright rule out potentially donning the Cap uniform again, but he did point out that the storyline would have to be something important.
“No one’s spoken to me about it,” he continued. “And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective.

The rumours have proved to be true and Loki scribe Michael Waldron has been named as the new writer on the next Avengers movie.
A couple of weeks ago we covered a story that reported that Destin Daniel Cretton had exited the director’s chair of Marvel Studio’s upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Following the film being pushed back by a year into 2026, the Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings director left the role, probably because he has other Marvel commitments including a Shang-Chi sequel and directing and executive producing duties on the Wonder Man TV show.

Franchise fans often make contradictory demands. There's a lot of criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe output post-Infinity Saga and a lot of that criticism is aimed at how they feel Phase 4 and Phase 5 aren't really building to anything in the way that Phases 1-3 were. The very angry comic book movie fans want to feel like all the TV shows and movies are building to a giant confrontation, but they also decry the "samey" feeling of Marvel movies. They want Kevin Feige and the Marvel braintrust to weave a complicated tapestry for a larger overall story throughout all of MCU TV and Movies and also they hate the mass-produced micro-managed feeling of a lot of Marvel's output.
You can't have one without the other, my dudes.
This reminds me a lot of the crowd that demands every single series have a detailed, unwavering plan from moment one. You see...

Michael Waldron is having a good day. According to Deadline, the screenwriter is now set to write Marvel Studios' "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." Waldron, of course, is currently also set to write the script for "Avengers: Secret Wars," the sequel to "The Kang Dynasty." That movie will mark the grand finale of the current Multiverse Saga that connects Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Waldron will be replacing Jeff Loveness, who was assumed to have left the project as Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") departed as a director earlier this month. As of now, neither of these next two "Avengers" movies has a director yet, but having Waldron on board to write both does seem like a smart choice to give them a more cohesive tone and structure.

Exclusive: Michael Waldron has been tapped to write Marvel Studios’ Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Waldron had already been set to write Avengers: Secret Wars, the installment that would follow Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will now write both Avengers sequels. Waldron has become one of Marvel’s most trusted creative minds having previously created and served as showrunner of season 1 of Loki as well as writing Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness and the move make sense to the studio to have him pen both films. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce.
Deadline recently broke that Destin Daniel Cretton would not be directing the film in order to focus on his other Marvel projects like the TV series Wonder Man. Avengers: Kang Dynasty is far on the theatrical release schedule, dated to kick off summer on May 1, 2026, giving Waldron more then enough time to pen a script as the director search begins.
