A Game Boy Color version was in development, but was canceled after Matt Stone and Trey Parker felt that kids would get a hold of it. An emulator of the game was eventually leaked online.
Matt Stone and Trey Parkour granted permission to this game, but later opted to drop out of production after recording the audio clips used. They were not happy with the 3D look the developers insisted on using. Matt and Trey kept arguing that the game should be 2D like the show. They eventually left the project In frustration.
Acclaim Entertainment acquired the license for the game before the first Season of South Park even aired.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone had misgivings about releasing the game on the Nintendo 64, as they felt that its target audience was much younger than the show's, and that the Sony PlayStation would be a more appropriate platform for a South Park game. They backed down on being told that the game's engine wouldn't work on the PlayStation and that it would require delaying the game for a year, but in accordance with their wishes, a PlayStation version of the game was eventually produced.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone hated this game and didn't want anything to do with it. But when the Stick of Truth came out, Parker and Stone offered their full support.
