Good Lord
iharlequin29 September 2001
I had the "pleasure" of watching a screening copy of this movie. It was atrocious. The only worth while performances in this "film" were from Real World Bostonian Jason and the lesser of team Tears for Fears Curt Smith. Real World Seattler David wasn't great, but seeing as it was his first movie I can almost let it slide. Traci Bingham was EASILY the WORST part of this movie, Larry Moss couldn't even help her complete lack of acting talent. The script comes in at a close second and the cinematography is a tight third as the other reasons to avoid this film.

Drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth
krywolff14 December 2005
I would have given this movie a rating of 4 out of 10, but my ex-girlfriend's brother made it and well, she's hot.

If you are thinking about seeing it, let me tell you this: I think anyone who takes the chance to watch it will probably enjoy it, simply because you'll probably get what you expect from it. Someone watching this movie and getting mad after wards because they thought it sucked is the equivalent of someone entering the Daytona 500 with a Volvo, then blaming the car that they didn't win.

I will say this for the movie, even though the acting isn't of high quality, among other things, I have found myself quoting the movie more than once or telling a friend about parts of it, despite the fact that when I first saw it I rolled me eyes and said "oh please." This movie has an aftertaste similar to drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth.

HORRIBLE.

This is the worst movie I've seen in years. I could barely comprehend how completely awful it was. Never, ever put yourself through viewing this movie. Traci Bingham should never be allowed to act again. This movie is absolutely dreadful, horrible, awful, and inexcusable. I have no idea what the director or actors were thinking.

Very funny and different

This story behind this movie hooks you in the first five minutes.

The quality of the camera work is not the best (i.e. Clerks) but the storyline is very good and the acting is funny and believable.

I definitely enjoyed this movie.

The music tracks are good and fit the movie.

Tracy Bingham plays a funny role, although she seems to only have Baywatch quality acting skills, not ready for the big screen.

The role playing back and forth between the main characters creates a movie that sucks you in and is really genuinely funny. The two main characters play their roles very well, and create an honest tension that you can feel when you watch the movie.

Sub-porno acting

I saw about 10 minutes of this movie on one of the 200 Showtime channels that come with digital cable, and I have seen elementary school plays with better acting. The Real World cast members I'll let slide, but Traci Bingham is allegedly a professional actress. If stuff like this is getting on TV, then maybe there are too many channels.

This movie proves how fantastic film can be!

I'm no writer, but all I can say is that this film rekindled my spirit for film. It just goes to show you that there all still films being made out there that have a solid message, are well done, and are unique. The Private Public is the most eloquently written film I've seen in my 20 years. The world needs to see The Private Public, to bring hope back to the industry.

A respectable film with heart
cyberblitz1 June 2001
I was pleasantly surprised viewing The Private Public at it's debut performance. Altman, Calek and Holstein put together a film that showed that "lower budget" doesn't mean "lower quality". Commendable performances from Jason Cornwell (Rush), Glen Naessens and Curt Smith carried the film's sometimes low-energy storyline. Blair Stevens lit up the screen with some absolutely believable naughty-girl action. Other high-points were the film's tight soundtrack (original music) and a few choice scenes where the actors beefed up some predictable dialog with strong character (Traci Bingham). Low points included David Burn's flat performance and little bit of a slow start to the film. I'm looking forward to making sure fellow film buffs see this one when it's released - it deserves respect, and the cast and crew deserve a medal for getting the film out in record time with a ludicrous budget. Don't know what will happen with distribution, but I'd buy the video for my indie-film collection.

Great Movie
brookes711 January 2006
I just saw this movie and thought it was awesome. David from the Real World Seattle did an incredible job. I am very surprised he didn't continue acting after this. He starts off as just a typical college guy but really develops throughout the movie. David did well showing the progression and made you really believe him. Jason also did well. He was able to convey a sense of hope and drive that many of us have lost. More movies need to be made like this to help give people inspiration to change their lives. This movie was not just some reality TV gimmick. It actually as a heart. The movie has a very powerful message and really delivers. I would recommend it to anyone. Rent it today, it will change your life.
