Early Baby Boomers . . .
tadpole-596-9182561 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . such as former American President William Jefferson Clinton, were just coming of age as the first quartet (1962-1965) of James Bond films were unleashed upon an innocent, unsuspecting world (as described in this week's CNN special, THE SIXTIES). While grown-ups were watching F-TROOP, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, and I DREAM OF JEANIE, their Next Generation (such as young Bill) was glued to Bond (when not being blown up in the jungles of Vietnam). As THE THUNDERBALL PHENOMENON points out, the James Bond character lost his dad early in life (as did Bill). THUNDERBALL's theme song, "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," plays throughout this documentary. Obviously, Bill took Leslie Bricusse's lyrics to heart as the slogan for his political career (fully intertwined with his personal life among the White House interns and other assorted Bond Girls--oops, I mean Clinton gals). THE THUNDERBALL PHENOMENON helps to explain key forces shaping American culture for at least half a century after THUNDERBALL's initial release.

Two one-inch "slip screws" held together . . .
pixrox129 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . THUNDERBALL nuclear extortionist Emilio Largo's yacht, connecting its hydrofoil aft and stodgy stern, THUNDERBALL production designer Ken Adam reveals here. (And by "here," I mean THE MAKING OF THUNDERBALL, which IMDb perversely links together with a totally separate, stand-alone thing I and most viewers of THE MAKING OF THUNDERBALL have never even seen, called THE THUNDERBALL PHENOMENON. Even IF such a video piece still languishes at the bottom of someone's closet today in the 21st Century, IMDb should NOT compel us fans of THE MAKING OF THUNDERBALL to vote on this unseen PHENOMENON. It's just TOO counter-intuitive and outright WRONG!) THE MAKING OF THUNDERBALL, clocking in at a quick 27 minutes, 33.36 seconds, also features many clips from the movie to illustrate points made in exclusive interviews with (GOLDFINGER) director Guy Hamilton, TB associate producer Stanley Sopel, TB underwater battle choreographer\director Ricou Browning (famous for the FLIPPER TV series), TB draftsman Peter Lamont, TB special effects supervisor John Stears, TB production buyer Ron Quelch, and TB actors Desmond Llewelyn (Q), Luciana Paluzzi (Fiona), Molly Peters (Pat), Lois Maxwell (Moneypenny), and Marine Beswick (Paula). Also included are archival interviews with James Bond's creator (novelist Ian Fleming), plus actors Sean Connery (Bond) and Claudine Auger (Domino). Casting rumors that Julie Christie, Raquel Welch, and Faye Dunaway all "lost out" on the role of "Domino" must be taken with a grain of salt. Such "leaks" rarely reflect serious consideration. Usually they simply are "win-win" PR ploys on the part of the studios and the stars' publicity hacks.

Behind the scenes with the Bond film that defined a decade "Thunderball".
DeLorean-425 March 2000
This is a Behind the scenes look at the film that set the pace for James Bond as we know it. Thunderball is truly a Bond classic, before Star Wars, and the common summer blockbusters that have become common in our lives there was Bond....James Bond. This Behind the scenes look at Thunderball gives you a feel that your in the directors chair with Terence Young. It takes you from the filming of big budget action scenes in exotic locales. To ad campaigns and trailers for the release of Thunderball. If you enjoy James Bond 007 films this behind the scenes glimpse on how they are made is truly a treat.
