Browsing the shelves of Our Price in the 90s, I remember seeing anime for the first time. One of the few things I miss about VHS is the larger cases that allowed for some very cool artwork, and the Manga line of releases were like nothing I’d seen before. Over the years, I ended up seeing things like Streetfighter II: The Animated Movie, Akira and Ghost in the Shell, but one that has evaded me even up to this point is Golgo 13. Having no context for these films, I had no idea that the anime version I saw on those shelves of VHS tapes was pre-dated by a live action adaptation of the manga.

The manga series the film is based on began in 1968, and still runs to this day, even after the death in 2021 of its creator Takao Saito.

“Love, Death & Robots” doesn’t make a terrible amount of sense as a title. For one thing, it’s repetitive: part of the inherent appeal of fictional robots is that they feast on our uncomfortable relationship with death. We’re usually either afraid of robots that could possibly kill us or attracted by the implication of a robot incapable of dying. And that’s all even before addressing the idea that love is an emotion tied to caring about someone so much that you’re afraid to live without them.
So where does that leave Netflix’s anthology collection of animated shorts, each ostensibly drawing on at least one of that trio? “Love, Death & Robots,” debuting an eight-episode Season 2 over two years after its first, continues to be a vague, mystifying catch-all. Heralded around its premiere as reflecting the sensibilities of its two high-profile executive producers — David Fincher...

Apparently Led Zeppelin is being sued for plagiarizing “Stairway to Heaven.” This news may not be new to some of you as there is a YouTube video playing both the song “Taurus” by the band Spirit and “Stairway to Heaven” together. However, it has taken them a while to finally sue the band. Why now? Led Zeppelin is releasing a remastered version of the song. How’s that for a 1970s throwback!?

Taylor Swift's lucky number is 13. Her birthday is on December 13th, her first album went gold in 13 weeks, and every time she has won an award she was seated in the 13th row. Well, that's not good enough for the apparel company Lucky 13; they are sighting trademark infringement because she wears the Lucky 13 trademark everywhere and even sells it on some of her own apparel. Really, all she has to do to get out of...

For Taylor Swift, the phrase “Lucky 13” could be taking on an ironic meaning soon. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” songbird has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit, over clothing that the singer is marketing that bears the phrase Lucky 13. See video: Taylor Swift's Agony of Grammy Defeat Caught on Vine The suit was filed in federal court in California on Tuesday by Blue Sphere, Inc., which does business as Lucky 13. The company formed in 1991 and sells a myriad of products including clothing, the complaint says. The suit alleges that Swift began to do harm to Lucky.

It may be Taylor Swift's favorite number, but it looks like the number 13 has landed the singer in hot water. E! News has exclusively learned that the Grammy winner is being sued by Orange County-based apparel company Lucky 13. The company, which was founded in 1991 and specializes in cycles and street wear, claims that they have contacted Swift's camp numerous times but there was no resolution. The "I Knew You Were Trouble" songstress has made no secret of the fact...

Welcome to this week’s results and review write-up of Nxt, the show in which developmental talent show their skills.
The show begins with the familiar sounds of Emma’s theme music, and she dances to the ring to a nice crowd-pop. She does the “clumsy skin-the-cat” to get in the ring, which is always fun to watch. Sasha Banks, along with Summer Rae, makes her way to the ring to face Emma and she is sporting some new “Boss” attire, and that new bad attitude that works well and she plays excellently. Sasha trash talks, Emma dances, and the match begins. The match has a nice pace, and Emma is on point with her roll-ups. Both of these ladies are certainly ready for main roster exposure and this match is solid and entertaining. The fans chant “plastic” after Renee Young referred to Summer and Sasha as “mean girls” recently.

Welcome to a she-centric edition of Bam! Pow! Zap! in which we hear from a trio of knockouts from the Marvel movie universe who don’t need superpowers to get by. Lucky 13 Emily VanCamp admits prepping the role of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Agent 13, or Sharon Carter as she’s known in the comic books, for Captain America: The Winter Soldier involved a good deal of education: namely getting up to speed on her character’s place in the Marvel Universe. “One of the most interesting things was actually learning about it, to really start to understand just how grand this universe is,” VanCamp tells us. “Researching my character, I started to get interested in a lot of other things that I was reading. It was just a really fun process.”...

13 variations for 13 films, accompanied by the musical theme composed by François de Roubaix for Le samouraï (1967): the cinema of Jean-Pierre Melville condensed into a series of motifs that travel from movie to movie, reiterating and transforming, finding their full meaning only when they are put into relation. A non-exhaustive collection1, but filled with recognisable images that clearly obsess this filmmaker.
1. Jef Costello’s second murder in Le samouraï, Maite’s devastating death at the end of Army of Shadows (1969), the shooting of Mattei and Vogel in Le cercle rouge (1970) or—the most paradigmatic example of all—of Maurice, Silien and Kern in Le doulos (1962). It is the matter of a rule with few exceptions, a pattern that is rarely broken: whenever Melville’s...

Great British Bake Off returns later this month and we're already loosening our belt by a few notches and stocking up on boxes of Mr Kipling bakewell tarts in anticipation of a cake extravaganza. A Cake-ganza, if you will.
Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry are back to munch their way through pastries, tartlets, pies and sponges galore, while we sit at home on our sofas stuffing our gobs with Curly Wurlys and looking on enviously.
This year's contestants include a dentist, a psychologist and a carpenter - plenty of pun opportunities for Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins with that trio - and the opening episode alone will feature the bakers tackling sandwich cakes, angel fool cakes and chocolate Showstoppers.
We've just got a call from the future. The name of the caller is diabetes.
If you can't possibly wait until next Tuesday to find out more details about this year's batch of sweet treat creators,...

Last night, American Idol's Top 13 took the stage for their first performance show and, well, let's just say not all wannabes are created equal. Some were good, some were grisly, but only a handful were great. And of them, the most memorable was easily Casey Abrams.

Rising stars Jennifer and Swapna Tiwari came to blows at the launch party and press conference for horror movie The Lucky 13 when Jennifer appeared to object to Swapna flirting with co-star Sunny and exhaling smoke in her direction. “The actresses didn’t look each other in the eye during the entire press conference,“ said a source for the movie, “Jennifer didn’t take kindly to Swapna’s laughing and flirting with her male co-star Sunny and before one could say ‘peace’ a high-voltage catfight was underway. Abuses were exchanged with cuss words flying all over the place. Finally an irritated Jennifer flung her glass at Swapna Tiwari who sustained a cut on her hand. At this stage the production people and co-stars intervened and had to physically separate the warring artistes, packing them off into their cars.”

Ta Staff member Krazyem asks Twilight fans are we spending too much?nbspAre we spending too much on Twilight? With the recent release of Twilight on DVD lots of us are wondering exactly which set we should buy. The 2 Disc Special Edition? The 3 Disc Special Edition? Borders Exclusive Edition? So many editions with basically the same movie and just different addons is causing some major merchandising mayhem once again. This has prompted me to ask myself how much is too much? I am a collector and as such I have purchased multiple sets of the movie so that I can get my little hands on the collectible items. However I am also a twentysomething single with expendable cash which is not the case for every Twilight fan out there. Some are teens with a small allowance or a minimum wage job. Others are family people with priorities like bills and mortgages.

Ok, so I admit it, I am a slave to fashion. A full-blown shopaholic. Unfortunately, I tend to shop beyond my means. I try to control myself, really, but there are just so many adorable items out there beckoning for me to come rescue them from their retail prisons. And yes, I know, our economy is falling down, down, down, but try telling that to my credit cards. But, alas, if you are like me, there are ways to shop smart and still maintain that style you so crave. No, I am not trying to sell you a self-help book or admit you into shoppers anonymous. I am trying to give you aspiring fashionitas a helping hand.
Now, one would think that alternative fashions would not be as costly as all those mainstream name brands and couture. Ha, I wish. That is why a lot of us “alt” folk tend...
