What a moment to be a Miley Cyrus fan. “Flowers” is more than just a surprise comeback hit — it’s the triumph of Mileyism. It’s been 10 years since her last Number One hit, “Wrecking Ball,” at the height of her tabloid-scandal, electro-sleaze Bangerz era. But now she has finally transformed into the kind of old-school grown-up legend she’s always wanted to be. “Flowers,” the lead single from Friday’s Saturn-return post-divorce album Endless Summer Vacation, marks the culmination of her unlikely journey from Hannah Montana to world-wise adulthood.

[[tmz:video id="0_g7s5sju8"]] Taylor Swift's wasting her time -- and more importantly the world's -- with stupid secret jabs at her rivals ... according to songwriting legend Diane Warren. The rumor is Taylor packed her "Reputation" cover art with hidden messages targeting the likes of Kanye, Kim, Katy and probably an ex-bf or 2. Diane, whose rep as maybe the most prolific writer of pop hits speaks for itself ... hints Swift should be focusing on her music. Diane, for one,...

Chicago – Feel like a French film? Well, “My Golden Days” is just the ticket. Full of existential romance, too many cigarettes, casual carnality and pathological regret, the story should come with its own beret and baguette.
Rich in detail, and awash in fine European actors, the movie is a perfect anecdote for “American Exceptionalism.”
It also speaks to the trigger of memory. When youth is a faraway concept, what trips the lever of remembering? In this case, it is the post 9/11 world. The main character, a French academic diplomat, travels freely as he has throughout his entire life, until his well-worn passport activates the “watch list.” This in turn sparks his backward contemplation, and the motivations that made him. I love stuff like this…if you are of age or close to the teenagers characters entering adulthood, the ache of their young love might be too familiar for comfort. If...

Clara: I don’t know where I am. It’s like I’m breaking into a million pieces and there is only one thing I remember: I have to save the Doctor. He always looks different. I always know it’s him. Sometimes I think I’m everywhere at once, running every second just to find him. Just to save him. But he never hears me. Almost never. I blew into this world on a leaf. I’m still blowing. I don’t think I’ll ever land. I’m Clara Oswald. I’m the impossible girl. I was born to save the Doctor. • The Name of the Doctor, Doctor Who, Series 7

23 years ago today, James Doohan reprised his iconic “Star Trek” role as Montgomery Scott when he appeared in an episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” In that October 12, 1992 episode, written by Ronald D. Moore, the crew of the Enterprise discover Scotty’s life form on a Federation transport ship that’s been missing for 75 years. Rematerialized aboard the Enterprise, Scotty raises a glass to his absent crew members. We raise a glass to sci-fi logic that gives us the return of characters who should be long-dead. It was the first “Star Trek” episode directed by Alexander Singer, who went on to direct several more “Tng,” “Deep Space Nine” and “Voyager” episodes. “Having Jimmy Doohan there, I felt I was in the middle of some kind of mythic experience,” he later said. Other notable October 12 happenings in pop culture history: •1969: The “Paul is dead” conspiracy took off when a...

There are countless celebrities who apparently have analogues in the fictional DC and Marvel comic book universes. The Avengers were once guests on David Letterman’s chat show, Batman and Robin tried to wrap their heads around the Paul Is Dead Beatles conspiracy theory, and Spider-Man teamed up with John Belushi to fight the Silver Samurai back in the seventies (all of those are things that actually happened, because comic books). What they could really use, though, is a Gok Wan, or a Trinny and Susannah.
It’s not like superhero costumes are the most dapper get ups in the first place. Even in a world of morphsuits and Lady Gaga, you’d get some funny looks walking down the street donning the Batman cowl, or clanking about in that Iron Man suit of armour. Still, the spandex outfits do the job, and everybody’s sort of accepted them as the norm now.

Directed By: Doug Aarniokosi
Original Airdate: 11 November 2013
In This Episode...
Ichabod heads over to a meeting with the Freemasons. He promises Abbie he will insist they include her in their normally men-only club, so she meets him there. By the time they arrive, they find the four Freemasons, dead and headless, and watch as the Horseman rides off with a fistful of heads. The Freemasons were the keeper of secrets on the side of good (as in, good vs. evil) and the Horseman came there looking for his skull. He didn’t find it - because it wasn’t there.
Abbie and Ichabod go to the captain to ask for the skull back so they can destroy it. He is hesitant but gives in, and goes to the lab he sent it out to. Paul, the lab tech, has...

This week, Victoria joins the workforce, Conrad learns the truth, and … Nolan … and … Patrick.
Here are five highlights:
Guns & Ammo
Father Paul is dead, and now in heaven with the other Roller Babies, and Conrad has concocted a story about how Paul was driving, and lost control. Emily knows that Conrad was behind the wheel, but reluctantly goes along with the lie, which is made easier when Daniel pays off the police investigation.
Jack doesn’t buy it for a second, and is determined to come up with some kind of ammunition to use against Conrad. He thinks the burned out car is the answer, which is how he and Emily (who digs up her juvie costume) wind up in a junkyard at midnight, taking pictures and gathering evidence. They discover that the driver’s side airbag had deployed, and because Conrad still has “Acme Airbags” imprinted on his face,...

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne appeared as a guest DJ on the All Things Considered radio show and podcast recently, speaking about his band’s own songs and their influences in a great interview that began with a startling track: “Strawberry Fields,” by the Beatles. Okay, it’s a fantastic song, but what startled me was Coyne’s reasons for selecting it. Coyne describes listening to the track as a kid, discovering the so-called “Paul is Dead” conspiracy and having the song’s final words, “I buried Paul” “seared into” his brain: “What a strange, strange way to end any record by any weirdo …...

Is director Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" a full-on prequel to his 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece "Alien" or not?
That's the question movie fans have been asking for months and we're going to answer it for you, once and for all. The answer, friends, is yes ... basically.
Scott has been adamant that while "Prometheus" "carries the DNA" of "Alien," it is an original piece of science fiction that delves into everything from biotechnology to artificial intelligence to the origins (and possible destruction) of mankind itself.
Those are lofty goals for a summer movie about the title spaceship star trekking to a hostile planet, but we're gonna walk you through the evidence that this is indeed an "Alien" prequel no matter how look at it. As Michael Fassbender's David says, "Big things have small beginnings."

Paul McCartney is still not dead. But he is, once again, the victim of a death hoax, this time courtesy of...yep, Twitter. Much like the "Paul Is Dead" urban legend that was created more than 40 years ago suggesting that the former Beatle had died in a car accident and was secretly replaced in the band by an imposter, "Rip Paul McCartney" quickly became a top trending topic on the social media site Wednesday. Fortunately, the music icon is very much alive and kicking. Unfortunately, however, this type of hoax is nothing new and, in fact, appears to be more rampant than ever. Just the other day, folks were all abuzz over false rumors of Eddie Murphy's demise, while last...

New Jersey’s hottest rock export Jon Bon Jovi is the latest star to get the death hoax treatment, as false reports of his demise ran rampant late yesterday on the Internet. A rep for the singer quickly quashed the rumors, saying Jbj was alive and even performing at a charity even that night.
The rumors gained steam as a trending topic yesterday on Twitter when accompanied with a fake press release that was frequently being retweeted. Noisecreep points out that the false report appears to have been copied from an La Times story on the death announcement of Michael Jackson.
A photog friend of Jovi’s snapped a fun pic of the star holding a sign that reads “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey! Dec. 19th 2011, 6:00” to post on Twitter ending the hoax. So at least he was a good sport about the whole silly ordeal.

Of course the big news items yesterday were the announcements related to marriage equality. As always, I prefer my legal analysis from the Law Dork, Chris Geidner. Basically, the Doma announcement was nice, but not at all what the headlines said. As for the filing on Prop 8 asking the stay be lifted, that’s more interesting. Particularly if you live in California.

"American Idol" introduced its first-ever Beatles theme week in March 2008. Armed with access to the finest songs in the Lennon/McCartney catalog, the show gave us melodious highs (Brooke White's stripped-down, barefoot-at-the-piano "Let It Be") and wince-inducing lows (David Archuleta's nearly lyric-free "We Can Work It Out").
Two seasons later, the Lennon/McCartney songbook is back in the "Idol" fold. Should Crystal Bowersox stroll down Abbey Road? Might Michael Lynche take us on a Magical Mystery Tour? Will "Teflon" Tim Urban have us screaming Help!? Let's take a look at which tunes the "Idol" hopefuls should select for Tuesday's (April 6) show.

November 4, 2009. A date that will forever live in infamy — at least for "American Idol" winner Kris Allen's 100,000 Twitter followers. That's the fateful day when Kris' Twitter name changed from the endearingly sassy "@KrisAllen4Real" to the simple, direct "@krisallen."

It's ironic that on a day that many people in the world are talking about the Beatles in one form or another, people in the comics industry are asking if Paul is dead.
Certainly, you don't see this amount of coverage of a man's life until his funeral. It reminds one of Twain: "They say such nice things at a man's funeral that it's a shame I'm going to miss mine by only a couple of days." Paul Levitz has had many, many nice things said about him. Mark Evanier may have the best post placing Paul's place in historical context so far:
DC and Marvel could not now interface with Time-Warner and — assuming the deal goes through — Disney if they had not evolved from hot dog joints into real businesses.
Many have taken credit for that evolution, including some who fought it until it became inevitable and a few...

The senior who slid the phrase “F— All Y’All” onto the cover of the Shaker Heights High School yearbook has managed to pull off one of the great subliminal pranks of all time. As we know all too well, rock and roll is rife with subtle messages and “backmasking,” dating back to the Beatles’ “Paul Is Dead” conspiracy 40 years ago. Here are our favorite subliminal messages in rock history.
Prince, “Darling Nikki”
The 1980s version of Prince was a dance-crazed sex maniac who hadn’t yet found the Lord. Or had he? At the end of “Darling Nikki,” one of the filthiest songs Prince has ever recorded, there’s a bit of garbled speech that translates to “Hello, how are you? I am fine, because I know that the Lord is coming soon” when played backwards.
