BURIED TREASURE is one of the earlier Our Gang comedies, a silent outing in which the kids read pirate novels and decide to find a desert island and its buried treasure themselves. Most of the cast members are unfamiliar from the later 1930s films, unsurprisingly really given that they would have grown up in the interim period.
I thought this was one of the better stories because it's fast-paced and, most important of all, funny. The direction is slick and efficient and the gags come thick and fast. The addition of a cute dog star to the narrative helps a lot too. Things really pick up for the climax on the desert island in which the gang are assailed by aggressive natives and, in the funniest scene, have an encounter with an overly friendly chimpanzee. It's a hoot.
