The show was cancelled unexpectedly after the third season due to a management change at FX Networks. According to Howard Stern, the show was the number one show on FX at the time, but a new program director decided to pull the show without warning.
Because of Jaime Bergman's pregnancy during the third season, FX wanted another thin woman to play a lifeguard in order to keep male viewers. Amy Weber was hired and Lisa Banes was fired.
Running gag: The first time a scene takes place in the mayor's office in each episode, a workman is shown painting her name on the door.
Despite the show being a parody of Baywatch (1989), former "Baywatch" cast member Angelica Bridges guest-starred on two episodes: season two, episode two, "From Russia, With Johnson" and season three, episode six, "The Gay Team."
