A love story between a poor young man and a wealthy woman with a few good songs
Priya is another Madhu and Lilly Chakravarthy movie made late 1960's and early 1970's when Madhu was an upcoming star and Lilly Chakravarthi was already an established actress. Jayabharathy plays a very insignificant role, in fact this is one of the movies where she was breaking into general acting role from her mythological characters. Priya is about Gopan (Madhu) an executive in an advertising company in Bombay is absconding leaving his wife Devi (Jayabharathi) back in Kerala. Gopan's friend, Bhasi (Adoor Bhasi), is sent to Bombay to locate the whereabouts of Gopan. The whole story is narrated in a flashback from the point Bhasi attempts to trace Gopan. The story takes many twists and turn with a few very melodious songs and a dance number Lilly Chakaravarty provided with a solid performance as the independent minded office typist. Adoor Bhasi provided good supporting role with his antics. Overall it was a good movie to watch specially Madhu's great performance both as an actor and director. The movie was debut of Madhu as a director who also gave us the block busters like Sindhooracheppu and Sathi. I graded the movie as a seven out of ten.
