Between Nowhere and Kaboom

SADLY there is no real official place to watch this lost pilot. But kinda like "Mulholland Drive" it feels like that nothing really got lost in terms of ideas, because "This is How the World Ends" feels like a mix of "Nowhere" and "Kaboom". There is a lot of Homage to "Nowhere" and even more elements which are later found in "Kaboom".

Well after all this said: If you love Araki (like me) you will enjoy this pilot a lot. Try to find it and enjoy another stylish-teenage-art-house-trash-fest from Gregg Araki.

Sadly "Kaboom" was the grand final of this kind of Araki-Movies. But then again ... we never really expected "Kaboom" to happen. So be happy until the world finally ends.

So they probably all died in that car crash

This is a 44-minute short film , possibly a pilot episode for a series that was never meant to be. And I cannot say I am too angry about it. It's mostly comedy with some dramatic influences in terms of coming of age, girlfriend relationships, homosexuality and just general college life. The writer and director is Gregg Araki and he worked with several rising young stars in the past, such as Anna Faris, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rose McGowan or very recently Shailene Woodley. Alan Simpson, the lead actor here, did not really make it into this group of fairly successful people. Then again the script here isn't particularly good and he shines occasionally only because some of the supporting players are pretty bad, mostly the two girls who play the lesbian couple. I wish I could say something better about this short movie, but it was a failure for the most part. Not even the music and other references for the year 2000 made it worth the watch. thumbs down.
