How strong is your faith?
cdentler10 July 2000
After watching this special I really had to examine how strong my faith in Jesus is. This special exposes that a lot of what you've always accepted to be true in the bible probably was made up by the gospel writers. It also examines the times that Jesus lived in and the political turmoil that surrounded this Jewish peasant. See it for yourself and examine the evidence.

Searching for the historical Jesus
jkholman18 March 2010
Any documentary on a religious subject is bound to stir feelings and misgivings, and The Search For Jesus is no exception. This film does not seek to prove nor disprove the existence of Jesus nor to prove his deity. It does present a fair picture of the historical Jesus and what some people think of him. I did not get the impression that Jennings was biased against Jesus of Galilee. If anything, he struck me as being subtly favourable to the Man. Jennings does not present Jesus as the Messiah nor Savior of the World. He leaves that open to the viewer, which is appropriate for a documentary, especially of this nature. I found The Search For Jesus to be one of the better documentaries on the subject in that it was very informative and did not disrespect nor grossly misrepresent Jesus' mission on Earth. I will venture to say that Christians could be well rewarded for watching TSFJ, and non-believers could very well find as much to savor.

Peter Jennings is not a Biblical scholar nor is he a theologian

It amazes me the sheer amount of people who are on a quest for the "historical Jesus" who have no training, education, or qualifications to actually do so. Watching Jennings' report on "The Search for Jesus" baffled me - since when did a news anchorman become an expert on Biblical archaeology, linguistics, etymology, epistemology, and theology? Interesting report to say the least, but an expert in this field and qualified to report on this subject? HARDLY! He approaches this subject with an amazing amount of bias and prejudice and sets out to almost DISPROVE the existence and/or influence of the most historically documented individual in the world - Jesus the Christ. If you want to see an interesting expose on the search for the "historical Jesus", okay - watch it. If you are looking to meet Jesus personally - look elsewhere.

Rebuttal to the negative comments concerning, In Search of Jesus
lrhenley5617 January 2007
When watching the program, I was wondering how many naysayers were going to attempt to belittle Peter Jennings himself, simply because he was able to uncover evidence other than what we of many religions would rather blindly believe. He is certainly not a theologian but is a reputable and credible journalist nevertheless. I heard comments about how Mr. Jennings was trying to discredit Jesus, etc... When one searches for facts and/or answers from knowledgeable sources and simply relays this information to a fact-hungry society, it hardly warrants the accusation of trying to discredit another. People used to think the world was flat and would probably swear to it on their mother's grave. Even after discovering the the world was indeed round, the non-believers still refused to believe it. The same principle applies to our current invasion and occupation of Iraq. We were duped into thinking that we had a legitimate and valid reason to invade this nation when we had none at all. Even now, after the truth has come out... people refuse to accept it and choose to believe that our troops are being killed in the defense of our freedom and/or country. I suppose that ignorance truly is blissful and some confused people would just rather convince themselves of a false perception and hide their heads in the sands revealing the truth.
