As the Undertaker announces his retirement, we look back at his Wrestlemania record...

WrestleMania XXX was an eventful show. It calmed the fears of those afraid that it would crash the WWE Network and cause major damage to the company's latest venture. Cesaro broke away from his tag team and broke out by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and the Rock hung out in the ring and had a blast. Mr. T and Roddy Piper buried the hatchet. Daniel Bryan went through an endless supply of punishment before being defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista.
That was a big moment and a major story, but the thing people will be talking about for a long time is the end of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. For the first time ever, Undertaker lost at...

In an industry that is populated by larger than life characters, and events that are often seen as outrageous or unbelievable, it’s quite the achievement for a wrestler to stand out from the crowd as being head and shoulders above the rest but Scott Hall, better known to WWE fans as Razor Ramon, is such a man. Though his on screen persona has always courted controversy, WWE’s latest release Living on a Razor’s Edge – The Scott Hall Story reveals that his real life has been even more incredible than that of the bad guy that he’s always portrayed in the ring.
As with its recent crop of excellent documentaries, the rise and fall and raise of Scott Hall is told with a shocking degree of candour, from the early years of his life where he shot a man dead in self-defence through his troubled tenure at...

I cannot even begin to comprehend what Vince McMahon was thinking when he laid out WrestleMania 32. If what occurred in Dallas is not proof positive that he is out of touch with what his core fan base wants, then nothing is. He is the captain of the sinking Titanic, refusing to believe that his ship even hit an iceberg, let alone is being being sank by it.
I thought the wrestling throughout the night was solid at worst and pretty good at best, without anything blowing me away. Not the most glowing praise, but given the hotchpotch mess I was expecting going in, it actually delivered slightly beyond my expectations.
The issue – as always – was not with the in-ring action, but with the way it was booked. WWE got it wrong not just in all of the big matches, but in every single contest.

The WWE is experiencing something of a resurgence in its tag team divisions at the moment, and while teams like The Usos, Los Matadores and the fabulous The New Day are very impressive and entertaining, there was a time in the WWE just over a decade ago, that the tag team division was something truly phenomenal and a large part of this was due to the Dudley Boyz.
Initially part of the larger Dudley Brothers stable at Ecw, Bubba-Ray and D-Von Dudley soon broke away to become their own two man wrecking machine and in the process laid the foundations for the tag team that is still a dominating force in the WWE today.
Straight Outta Dudleyville is a celebration of the first twenty years of this epic partnership and as is their way these days, WWE has once again assembled a fascinating, informative and entertaining documentary to accompany it.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced that Kevin Owens would defend the Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Stardust, Sin Cara, and Zack Ryder in a ladder match. This would mark the 11th time in WrestleMania history that a ladder match will take place. The previous ten ladder matches, ranging all the way back to WrestleMania X, have provided some of the most memorable moments in the history of the ‘Granddaddy of Them All’.
Whether they be for the Intercontinental Championship, the Tag Team Championship, or the Money in the Bank briefcase, the ladder match has always stole the show at WrestleMania. The high spots have always sent the crowd into a frenzy, and set the tone for the rest of the night. In addition, these matches have made the careers of future hall of famers like Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Edge, and others.

WrestleMania, cultural phenomenon that it is, has become a stage where the moments are made that last forever, and even though fans have come to pretty much expect classic matches and big-time appearances from superstars, it’s those moments that end up making the show.
Nobody will ever forget some of the greatest WrestleMania moments of years past – Bret Hart defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania X and being hoisted up in celebration by the roster’s babyfaces. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit standing side by side as champions in the closing moments of WrestleMania Xx. Daniel Bryan overcoming all the odds to reach immortality at WrestleMania XXX.
Each WrestleMania needs to deliver a series of moments that ensure that it will last in the memory, standing alongside the shows that came before it. This year is no different, and while the card may seem weaker than usual at first glance,...

For over three decades, WrestleMania has provided WWE with countless memorable moments but for the most part, they were expected. Hulk Hogan defeating Andre The Giant, Stone Cold defeating Shawn Michaels to win his first WWE title, Daniel Bryan getting his happy ending at WrestleMania 30. They were still incredible, but at the beginning of the night, it was easy to predict that they would happen.
The truly shocking WrestleMania moments are actually few and far between. On the grandest stage of them all, the creative team plays it safe for the most part.
While we wait for the next shocking moment at WrestleMania, let’s take a look at the 15 most shocking moments from the first 31..

The modern professional wrestling fan may take them for granted somewhat, but three way matches were once extremely innovative. There is a lot of debate around where the concept started in North American pro-wrestling, with some claiming Ecw popularised the match with the infamous Terry Funk v Shane Douglas v Sabu bout in 1994. Regardless of where it came from, in the 1990s it was still new and fresh.
Due to the fairly modern creation of the match, there wasn’t a single triple threat match (as it is known in WWE) at WrestleMania until WrestleMania Xv in 1999. If you can guess who was involved in the match before clicking through the answers, your WWE trivia is on point to say the least.

For every “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Rock and Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant, there are two or three underrated storylines that have helped to make WrestleMania the can’t-miss extravaganza it is.
They are the feuds and rivalries that have been overshadowed or lost in the shuffle underneath the programs that have come to define the event. While everyone remembers Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at the 25th incarnation of the show, the sibling war between Jeff and Matt Hardy on the undercard was accompanied by a story as strong as any other on the broadcast, yet few talk about it today.
WrestleMania X is an epic show, with two legitimate five-star matches featuring Bret vs. Owen Hart and Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels, but there is a very strong program supporting those two matches on the undercard, as Randy Savage and Crush brought their heated rivalry to a conclusion.

As the World Wrestling Federation settled into the decade of the nineties, the company would face multiple obstacles that jeopardised its status as the premier entertainment juggernaut it had been in the 80s, as well as the success of its biggest show of the year, WrestleMania.
Federal investigations, staunch competition, ageing talents, and the desperate need to create new superstars all contributed to the would-be decline of the second decade of WrestleMania, making the event slip a bit in terms of prestige.
In addition, the venues had changed from 50,000+ seat open stadiums to smaller arenas that might seat 20,000 max. Despite the decline, WrestleMania still produced some very memorable stories from this time period, but, like the first ten shows, there are a number of things that took place behind-the-scenes that aren’t as well known.

When people talk about the World Wrestling Federation’s New Generation Era, many fans will argue about when exactly the era started.
In my eyes, it began once the majority of the 1980’s acts like Jake Roberts, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and others parted ways with the company. Following the exodus, WWF then debuted Monday Night Raw in prime time in January of 1993 and would air vignettes about the ‘New Generation’ of WWF stars.
Performers like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon were championed on television as being the new faces of the company. Due to this era not being commercially successful, a lot of great matches have unfortunately been forgotten, while only the major pay per-view encounters have seem to have stood the test of time.
There are great bouts that people still regularly discuss, like The Heartbreak Kid and Razor Ramon Ladder Match from WrestleMania X...

For 32 years, WrestleMania has been home for historic high-profile matches and career-making moments that have created some of the most iconic imagery in wrestling. The sight of the legendary battle between Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III, the Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan main event that never happened, and the year-long build of The Rock vs. John Cena are just some of the moments and stories that couldn’t possibly be forgotten.
But there are also WrestleMania memories that WWE doesn’t like to re-live.
Not every WrestleMania story has been front page news. In fact, some WrestleMania anecdotes were often kept quiet, or tried to be silenced altogether, since their details were not the type of stories that WWE likes to share. The announcement earlier this week that WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart is currently suffering from prostate cancer stunned both wrestling fans and those in the wrestling business. Now, one of the places where Hart achieved some of his greatest successes is paying him tribute.
Madison Square Garden in New York City was the site of some of Hart’s greatest triumphs during his wrestling career. When one thinks of Hart and Msg, his victory over “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig at SummerSlam 1991 immediately comes to mind. In that match, Hart won his first singles title in the WWE, the Intercontinental Championship. In this regular feature I intend to put my quarter-of-a-century of wrestling viewing to good use by helping to educate and inform the modern fan about the greats of a generation they missed out on.
Bret Hart was one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time, possessing the ability to contest barn-burning matches with a variety of different opponents. He was a master technician. A creator of fine art between the ropes. He has not wrestled in a decade-and-a-half, so chances are many of the new generation of wrestling fans have never had the pleasure of watching him wrestle.
It would be all too easy to randomly select seven great Bret Hart matches, and lists of that ilk are readily available for those who want them. Everybody knows about Hart’s classics with Davey Boy Smith (SummerSlam ’92 and In Your House 5), Steve Austin (Survivor Series ’96 and WrestleMania 13...

This past Monday’s Raw featured one of the biggest moments of 2015, when Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Several factors contributed to WWE’s decision to put the title on Reigns that night instead of at another event or at another location.
It was certainly a surprise, since seeing a championship title change hands on an episode of Raw is no longer a common occurrence, and it’s especially rare for that title to be the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. When fans think of breakout moments for some of the biggest superstars in WWE history, the stage in which those events take place is pay-per-view instead of WWE’s flagship show.
And when that breakout moment involves the next face of the company, the occasion becomes that much more special since there are only a handful of those moments that exist. Some of...

I think it would be fair to say that most wrestling fans were disappointed with WWE 2K15. The series’ first outing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was seen as a significant step-down from the previous year’s release. Several features were scrapped, and the few added ones couldn’t make up for that fact. Plus, there were several technical issues. Since this is a yearly release now, Yuke’s and 2K Games are back once more, this time with WWE 2K16. With another year of current-gen development in its favor, could the franchise ascend to championship levels? Or is it just another jobber?
While it may never please gamers who are continually looking to relive WWF No Mercy, the gameplay found in WWE 2K16 represents the high point of the franchise thus far. It may not actually look anything like the action seen on screen, but the grappling and striking...

This weekend’s WWE Live at Madison Square Garden show was a lot of fun for what it was, and it’s exactly the sort of thing WWE should be doing more often with regards to the WWE Network. The Beast In The East special was a great start, but the Msg show proved that this is something WWE could and should be doing throughout the year.
Brock Lesnar sent The Big Show to Suplex City and was left looking stronger than ever heading into his Hell in a Cell match with The Undertaker, and the main event of Seth Rollins v John Cena was one of the best steel cage matches in recent memory. The actual timeline of the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ Era can be difficult to ascertain. A lot of fans point to the moment in 2002 when Vince McMahon uttered the phrase during a promo as the starting point. Others prefer to think that the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ Era began shortly after WrestleMania X-8 in the Spring of ’02. Whatever the case, it’s generally accepted that the period started in 2002, and ended somewhere around the time WWE went ‘PG’ in the Summer of 2008.
2002-2008 was a bit of a unique period in WWE history. Stars such as The Rock and Steve Austin were either moving away from the company or winding down their careers. Obviously, WrestleMania is the culmination of everything World Wrestling Entertainment has been trying to achieve in the year that passes between the previous event and the next one. Shortly, ‘Mania 31 will come and go in a flash, and all eyes will turn to the 32nd iteration of the infamous event in 2016, but things didn’t always move so quickly in the wrestling world.
There was a time when things drifted along at a much more leisurely pace, but the fact remains that WrestleMania – since coming to be in 1985 – has always been the focal point of the year for Vince McMahon, his wrestlers and his staff.

The Bushwhackers were a memorable tag team that were part of the WWE roster during the late 1980s/early 1990s. Fans would remember them most as the guys who licked peoples faces and swung their arms wildly while they walked. As they are inducted into the 2015 WWE Hall Of Fame, many fans might not know that they had a successful career that spanned 20 years prior.
The pair began in their home country of New Zealand and wrestled all over the world in the era of wrestling territories. They amassed dozens of Tag Title reigns and introduced many audiences to the hardcore style long before it would become a trend in the business.
Since leaving the WWE in the mid-1990s, they’ve fallen out of the public eye. Their last major appearance as a team was during the Gimmick Battle Royal of WrestleMania X-7 and Butch Miller would retire shortly after that.

It seems a lot of the uproar surrounding comments made by Aj Lee to Stephanie McMahon on Twitter, criticising her boss for tweeting about women’s rights yet never standing up for the Divas, has died down. Responding to the backlash, WWE have a featured a lot of female-related content on their official website, including galleries, interviews and articles looking back at just how important the Divas are.
Whether a thinly-veiled damage control exercise or not, at least the women are getting more credit, which can only be seen as a good thing. It’s been a huge week in the wrestling world, as always, and so much has happened over the span of the past seven days.
This article aims to look at 10 different factoids and news bites from the past week, looking to provide fans with some little tidbits which might not be well-known, but also...

Everyone loves a ladder match. Despite the many, many ladder matches that have taken place on WWE television and pay-per-view, fans still look forward to them and the gimmick has retained much of its aura.
The ladder match has evolved in recent years, from featuring two singles wrestlers to to tag teams to three to adding tables and chairs to four tag teams and so on and so on.
The concept is so popular that it even has its own pay-per-view – Money in the Bank – which is usually one of the in-ring high points of the WWE’s year.
Some of the most iconic moments in WWE history have come during this particular brand of match. The sight of Shawn Michaels leaping from the top of the ladder at WrestleMania X and Edge and Christian standing atop the ladder holding their first Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 16 have...

By all conventional wisdom, The Undertaker should not exist in today’s world of professional wrestling. He is an anomaly – a character that could only exist in pro wrestling, but also seemingly should not exist in today’s reality-based WWE. Of course, WWE is the company where leprechauns live under the ring and a little person dressed up in a bull costume thinks he’s a real bull.
Still, Taker is a holdover from a different era, a rare instance of the early 90s Cartoon Era enduring through the Attitude Era, right past the Ruthless Aggression Era, traversing the PG Era and continuing into the Reality Era. Remember the gimmick battle royal at WrestleMania X-7? Several of the characters in that match were created in the same era as Taker: Doink the Clown, Repo Man, the Gobbledygooker and Undertaker’s first manager, Brother Love. That era also gave rise to Papa Shango,...

Many wrestling fans will point to WrestleMania X as the birth of the ladder match in professional wrestling, and many wrestling fans would be absolutely wrong with that assertion. Not only was the famous WrestleMania X ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon not the first ladder match in wrestling history, it wasn’t even the first ladder match in WWF/WWE history. That honor went to Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, who competed in a ladder match in 1992 that was filmed for release exclusively on home video. As Hart tells the story, he came to Vince McMahon with the idea of doing a ladder match, as he had competed in them in Stampede Wrestling early on his career. Vince was not familiar with this type of match, so Bret and Shawn went out to show Vince what kind of match a ladder match could be.

This Sunday is the biggest day on the calendar year for those of us who still prefer this Steve Austin over the one from The Six Million Dollar Man and who still get the urge to patriotically tear off our shirts whenever this terrible Rick Derringer song kicks in. It’s WrestleMania XXX (that’s XXX as in “30,” not in porn terms), and it’s airing live from New Orleans on Sunday night.
I’m particularly excited for this iteration of the show thanks to the development that has completely re-aligned the way I watch and think about the WWE’s theatrical grappling arts.

In 1992, a brash new bad guy entered World Wrestling Entertainment and wasted little time making an impact. Known as Razor Ramon, he would align himself with Ric Flair in the Nature Boy’s rivalry with “Macho Man” Randy Savage. His matches with Savage, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect and the 123 Kid established him as a fine in-ring performer and his character (and the conviction with which he was portrayed) set him apart from the other more goofy gimmicks of the time.
The machismo that he exuded led to Ramon becoming a fan favorite and one of the marquee stars in Vince McMahon’s promotion. A leader of the New Generation initiative, Ramon battled Shawn Michaels in classic contests including WrestleMania X’s epic ladder match.

As I write this we are only a couple of weeks away from the thirtieth WrestleMania event, which is being held on April 7th 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The excitement for wrestling fans, and more-so, WWE fans, often reaches it’s height in the weeks leading to the so-called “showcase of the immortals” and what was once, prior to Vince McMahon feeling like it made the event sound “old”, “the grand-daddy of ‘em all”.
I started watching wrestling in 1992 and the first show I ever watched was WrestleMania 8, held at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. The show featured two spectacular matches, being Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper and Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair. Randy Savage would remain my favourite wrestler of all time from this event on. Looking back on this event in 2014, and these matches still hold up today. Great selling, wonderful story telling, and top notch wrestling from these four men.

Mr Wrestlemania. That‘s a very bold claim for anybody to make, but if there’s one wrestler who can legitimately lay claim to this lofty title then it’s Shawn Michaels. Not only is he possibly the most consistently entertaining performer that the WWE has ever had, but he’s also the closest thing that the wrestling industry has had to a true rock star.
Never one to toe the line, Michaels has lived his bad boy persona in and out of the ring for the better part of three decades, a story that has been well documented in his 2006 autobiography Heartbreak and Triumph and the 2008 WWE DVD release of the same name. His in ring exploits have been similarly well documented in a number of retrospective collections over the last few years, but far from Shawn Michaels - Mr Wrestlemania being surplus to requirements, this is perhaps the...

Since won by WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson in 1979, the WWF/E Intercontinental Championship has been held by the “workhorses” of the WWE. Talented workers and storytellers like Tito Santana, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Mr. Perfect, and Shelton Benjamin- all great performers, but not the person the office would bank on carrying the company at house shows and PPVs- carried the Ic-title, entrusted in having great matches at- or near-the-top of the card with other mid-card superstars.
And with the WWE Network now comes the ability to access the all-time classics at anytime, anywhere, for a very affordable price. But after watching The Dragon and Macho Man at WrestleMania III, the Michaels/Ramon Ladder Match from WrestleMania X, Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog from Summerslam in England… after watching the best of the best, whose morbid curiosity hasn’t wanted to take a peek at the worst of the worst?...

We are fast approaching the 30th annual WrestleMania event and it is the time of year when many wrestling fans look back on the famous event and revisit the moments that, for whatever reason, were memorable to them. Through the years there have been plenty of memorable moments at WrestleMania and dozens of wrestlers have carved themselves into the tree-bark of history with their performance on the grandest stage in professional wrestling. One of those wrestlers, of course, is the man who called himself “The Heartbreak Kid” and was labelled by fans and critics alike as “Mr WrestleMania”. That man is Shawn Michaels, and this DVD/Blu-ray package is about his legacy on WWE’s main stage.
Shawn Michaels made his WrestleMania debut as part of The Rockers tag team with Marty Jannetty to take on The Twin Towers in 1989 at the fifth annual show, and his last wrestling appearance...

Monday April 7th will be the most important day of Daniel Bryan’s storied 15 year wrestling career. That will be the day that the dust settles from WrestleMania XXX, where Bryan will be taking on Triple H. No titles are at stake. It won’t be the main event of the show, but it will be the single most significant match of his 15 year career.
For the past year or more, Bryan has been the archetypal people’s champion. Everyone loves an underdog, and Bryan has been the ultimate, faced with seemingly insurmountable odds every step of the way. Every time he looks like he can climb to the top of the ladder, along comes another snake to slide him back down again. Just when we thought he’d finally become the WWE Champion at SummerSlam, Triple H and Randy Orton colluded to snatch the belt away from him after...

Nelson Frazier Jr, also known as Viscera and King Mabel in many of his WWE incarnations, has passed away after suffering a heart attack in his hometown of Memphis, Tennesse.
He had just celebrated his 43rd birthday this past Friday on Valentine’s day.
Wrestling agent Eric Simms first broke this news on his Facebook page…
Others then followed suit and paid their condolences.

The classic Andy Williams Christmas tune has double meaning for wrestling fans. December brings good tidings of holiday cheer and also means that WrestleMania Season is just around the corner. Right after we ring in the New Year, we will be on The Road to The Royal Rumble. Since the WWE has established such strong connections between The Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, the RAWs and Smackdowns prior to the January Classic have essentially become the first stops on The Road to WrestleMania. There is not a better time to be a wrestling fan than the few months leading up to “The Showcase of the Immortals.”
2014 will offer up the 30th WrestleMania and all signs point to the record 22nd match of, perhaps, WrestleMania’s most celebrated and successful superstar, The Undertaker. Since 1991′s WrestleMania VII, The Deadman has dominated the grandest stage in WWE,...

The Best of WWE at Madison Square Garden is an interesting release from WWE and it’s nice to see them going into the massive video library at their disposal and putting together a compilation of matches and segments that is a little different to the usual things they put out.
The DVD is on three discs and the Blu-ray, which I will be reviewing, is on two discs. The quality of the picture improves as the matches progress, with earlier matches from the 1970’s being a mixed bag in quality of sound, picture and match content. We see early matches with the likes of Bruno Sammartino, The Iron Sheik, Bob Backlund and Billy Graham which vary in terms of entertainment value but are good to see as a history lesson. The Sheik/Slaughter boot-camp brawl is a fun watch but I imagine many of today’s casual wrestling fans...

WWE took a chance with a lot of things when they had no competition in 2002/2003; most involved old WCW stars such as Hulk Hogan. Hogan’s return began with the nWo in the WWE, and for a while it was good, but sadly quickly descended into a torrent of tiresome “brother, dude” promos and way too many poor matches with the exception of one.
During that famous WrestleMania 18 match Hogan turned “face” against The Rock, and within a month found himself at the top of the card as the WWE Champion. Hogan, who was getting the better of guys in their prime like Triple H and The Undertaker, drew nothing except apathy from fans. The WWE noticed this and eventually his run was ended but the damage was done. Ratings dropped as people checked out in droves opting for the early Tna or the growing Ufc instead of a bad WCW re-runs.

Wrestlemania is known as the grandest stage of them all, the showcase of immortals and the place where legends are made. But not every match that makes the show is worthy of its spot on the card. For every Ricky Steamboat Vs Macho Man Randy Savage or Undertaker Vs Shawn Michaels match there’s some other garbage contest stinking up the arena and confusing the Hell out of the audience as to why it wasn’t simply on an episode of Superstars … in the 1990′s.
