The trailer of “Shivaay” opens to Ajay Devgn’s trademark piercing gaze, lingering there for a moment before lurching into three minutes of continuous movement as he hurtles, untethered, through Himalayan avalanches and between cartwheeling vehicles. His distinctive baritone cuts through the visuals as he narrates “shlokas” (verses) from Vedic Hindu scriptures describing the transformative capabilities of the deity Shiva, the destroyer of evil and the inspiration for the film’s lead character.
Despite some of these reference points, “’Shivaay’ is not a religious or mythological movie,” Devgn told press during a recent trip to New York, the first of four cities in a U.S-wide promotional tour for the October 28 release, which marks his second as a director. “However, it is firmly based in the idea of faith, and the main character draws heavily from Lord Shiva, both in terms of his spirituality and his superpowers.”

Ajay Devgn, who has been a part of Indian film industry for over two decades, was felicitated on October 19 for his valuable contribution to Indian cinema at the opening day of Confederation of Indian Industry (Cii)’s Big Picture Summit.
The two-time National Award-winning film actor is today among Bollywood’s most bankable box office stars. It isn’t his crowd-pulling prowess alone that defines him. His approach to his star status sets him apart from the crowd.
Primarily, his fans get to see Devgn only on the big screen. As his public appearances are rare, the seasoned actor lets his films do the talking for him. The company was one of the last to join the social media bandwagon but has surpassed their competitors in a short span of 2 years. Tips Music’s Facebook page is the largest not only amongst the music companies but also film production companies in India. Unlike their competition, Tips Music has broken the trend of depending only on new music to grow their community and leveraged their rich 90s music catalogue to engage with fans.

Dinesh Patel, the man who launched Ajay Devgn in Phool Aur Kaante is in a controversy of sorts now. Since he defaulted on his payment to film financier (of the unreleased Benaam starring Ajay Devgn and Sameera Reddy) Vandana Jain, who allegedly claims that Dinesh owes her no less than Rs 1 crore, resulting in his wife Snigdha landing up in Bengaluru Central Jail. Reports have it that Vandana, who had flown to Mumbai with Bengaluru Police, got Snigdha arrested from her Santacruz residence. Strange as it may sound that, instead of Dinesh, it Snigdha who got arrested, because Jain had issued the loan in her name. Talking about the incident, Jain said that Dinesh had approached her in the year 2006, to financially help him to finish the remaining portions of the said film (which was then around 85% complete) with the promise that he will return the amount within 3 months. While...

Dinesh Patel who had produced Ajay Devgn's career-making debut Phool Aur Kaante is currently in an unhappy financial situation. To tide him over the monetary crisis, Devgn, known to be charitable towards the film fraternity, has agreed to let Patel's 10-year old film with Devgan in the lead be released. Old long-forgotten films being fished out of the cans for release... these are every star's biggest nightmare. Ajay Devgn who is currently going through the most fruitful phase of his career now has to confront the embarrassment of a 10-year old film entitled Naam (no relation to the Mahesh Bhatt film starring Sanjay Dutt) being released next week. The film directed by Anees Bazmee features Devgn with Sameera Reddy and Bhumika Chawla. Complicating the issue further is the fact that the film is produced by Dinesh Patel who was the producer of Devgn's debut film Phool Aur Kaante.

Is the independent film directed by a fresh talent and featuring names that are not the marquee rulers here to stay? Judging by the curiously heightened appeal of this Friday’s release Akaash Vani, one would think that the small film with under-exposed faces has finally found its bearings towards the box office.
Some would say sophomore director Luv Ranjan has bitten off more than he could chew by pitching his love story Akaash Vani, starring two semi-newcomers, straight against this year’s first purported blockbuster Race 2.
We have it from a very reliable source that Akaash Vani producer Abhishek Pathak and director Luv Ranjan took the decision of pitching their film directly against the Race franchise, rather than coming a week earlier to avoid a clash.
The earlier plan was to release Akaash Vani on January 18 when Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar was due. But when the core crew saw their end product,...

There is no doubt about the fact that Ajay Devgn is being regarded as one of the leading action stars in Bollywood today. How can we forget his debut film Phool Aur Kaante, in which he appeared on screen standing on two moving bikes? He repeated the same stunt in Golmaal Returns and Golmaal 3 on cars. And now, for his underproduction film Son Of Sardar, Ajay has done it again. This time however, Ajay will be seen riding two horses. With the stunt already making news, we wonder how Ajay pulls off such dare devil stunts... only to be reminded that he is after all the son of noted fight master Veeru Devgan.
