Cool and quirky flick that more people should see.

Blister! is a well-made Japanese drama/comedy that focuses on the nature of geek culture and obsession; what it means to be an outsider. That might sound pretentious, but it's not. The film moves along at a good pace, and the acting and script leap the subtitle barrier effortlessly. The jabs at Star-Trek fans and McFarlane comics characters are definitely well-placed, but this is clearly a movie made by fans, for fans - of all kinds.

The opening consists of a bad b-movie Mexican Standoff in an apocalyptic future. It'll make sense later on, I promise. Not perfect, but absolutely worth your time, and probably something you haven't seen.

This film should never have been taken out of its package.

I've seen a lot of movies, and I do mean a lot. This film has everything it takes to be a lousy movie. Bad acting, bad story line, bad effects, bad production. There is a mix of English and Japanese. When they speak English it's obvious just how bad the acting is. When they speak English I'm convinced it's just as bad, but it's harder for me to tell since I'm not fluent in Japanese. The story line is overly convoluted, yet at the same time too predictable. One faint glimmer of hope for the movie is its commentary on western materialism, but even that seems to wear thin quickly. All in all, not worth watching. How it managed to get as high of a rating as it has so far is a mystery to me.
