Jake Paul bounced back nicely from his first career loss.
Paul won a unanimous decision against Nate Diaz in a cruiserweight fight Saturday night.
The 26-year-old social media YouTube personality who has turned himself into a prizefighter clearly held the advantage for much of the 10-round event. However, Diaz, a mixed-martial arts fighter who left the UFC in 2022, was on the verge of a knockout at several moments.

August has arrived, and with it, the last full month of summer-worthy shows and flicks, at least for 2023. From all the summer sensations to food weather, carnival fun and, of course, the lack of school, the streamer’s film slate will update with some appropriate flicks like “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” “Eat Pray Love,” “Despicable Me” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” respectively.
If you’re one of those who senses the change in the air as soon as the salty summer heat gives way to crisp fall fog, “Heartstopper” Season 2, complete with its cartoon drawings of leaves, waits for you starting August 3. “The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 2 Part 2” concludes the two-part followup to the legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. “Heart of Stone,” a big tentpole film starring Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, promises action-lovers a good time.
For those who didn’t get enough of the Depp v.

Although a few movies have been dominating Netflix’s film charts for weeks, the Top 10 English film chart for the week of July 24 had a new entry in the action-comedy “Hidden Strike,” starring Jackie Chan and John Cena. Meanwhile, “The Witcher” returned to first place for TV. Read on for this week’s analysis.
Directed by Scott Waugh (“Need for Speed”), “Hidden Strike” was produced independently and sold to Netflix for worldwide streaming rights, a wise purchase considering that the film received 22 million views since quietly hitting the streamer last Friday. It was the #1 watched movie in roughly 50 territories worldwide, and made the Top 10 in 73 countries. Oddly, the United States was not one of them, since that honor went to “They Cloned Tyrone,” which received 11.1 million views worldwide in its first full week on Netflix, enough for third place.

Brothers Chapman and Maclain Way, the sons of screenwriter Rick Way, grandsons of actor Bing Russell, and nephews to Kurt Russell (that one you know), have some obvious Hollywood pedigree. They also have a Primetime Emmy for 2018’s “Wild Wild Country” and Sundance status for 2014’s “The Battered Bastards of Baseball,” both of which were distributed by Netflix.
With the Tuesday return of their best-in-genre sports-documentary series “Untold,” the guys also have a legitimate claim for Top Netflix brothers. Sorry, Duffers; and Joe and Anthony Russo, you had better make something really good out of that “Gray Man” universe.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

The WGA strike has had an impact on U.K./U.S. co-productions, Channel 4’s head of content Ian Katz said today.
The strike, which has been running since May 2, has spooked U.K. writers who are too loyal or nervous to engage in conversations with U.S. co-production partners, Katz said at a press briefing on Wednesday morning, where Channel 4 unveiled its 2022 revenue results.

A documentary on the legal woes between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard headlines the new spring lineup from U.K. broadcaster Channel 4.
At the channel’s Content Showcase in London, chief content officer Ian Katz unveiled a slate of “purposeful, provocative but never predictable” programming that he hopes will get people “thinking, arguing and asking questions about the world in which we live.”
“Depp vs Heard” will be a three-part series by BAFTA-nominated series director Emma Cooper, investigating the notorious defamation trial that captivated global audiences for three straight months last year. The case — dubbed the world’s first ‘Tik Tok trial’ — was a global media event and raised significant issues regarding violence, gender and the nature of justice in the post-truth era.

Directors’ Statement: "In 2020, as the world ground to a halt, we – like everyone else – found ourselves canceling our plans. In our case, that meant shelving the film we’d intended to make that summer, even though we were more restless than ever.

Manti Te’o, and the football star’s family and friends open up about his headline-making catfishing incident in an exclusive sneak peek of Netflix’s “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist.”

Here’s a logline for “The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist” installment: “Born into a Hawaiian paradise, All-American football standout Manti Te’o leads a simple life summed up in just three words: faith, family, football. College football’s golden boy could do no wrong, but when tragedy strikes, the increased scrutiny of his online relationship causes a media maelstrom that threatens his future and legacy. Featuring in-depth interviews with Manti Te’o (he/him/his) and the person behind the online identity, Ronaiah ‘Naya’ Tuiasosopo (she/her/hers).”

MTV’s “Catfish” never had an episode with the drama that surrounded former Notre Dame football standout Manti Te’o, the Hawaiian-born linebacker infamously duped into believing his longtime girlfriend, whom he never met in person, died just ahead of the 2013 Bcs National Championship Game. It was a tabloid story that left many wanting the real truth, but it took Chapman and Maclain Way’s Netflix documentary series “Untold” to reveal it.
“It’s obviously been a white whale in the sports world,” Chapman told IndieWire of the Manti episode, “The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist.” The Ways, with directors Ryan Duffy and Tony Vainuku, captured a many-hours-long interview with the former linebacker (and many more hours with his catfisher). “He’s always been a hard ‘No, no, no, no, no, no.'”

"It was time that we had to do something radical." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for Untold: The Race of the Century, another new sports history doc in the ongoing "Untold" series on Netflix. We also recently featured the trailer for Untold: The Rise and Fall of AND1 about streetball and the AND1 league. A chronicle of the thrilling 1983 America's Cup, Race of the Century is a classic underdog story. It tells the tale of the scrappy group of Australians who band together to dethrone the New York Yacht Club, and break the longest-running win streak in history — 132 years! — in the most prestigious sailing competition in the world. Key members of the 1983 U.S. and Australian crews sit down for interviews sharing their experience of this ultimate race to victory. The doc will increase your heart rate as we watch one Australian team come together to take down this 132-year winning streak.

Stars: Jonathan Hansler, Nathan McGowran, Matt Ingram-Jones, Mollie Hindle, Sean Cronin, Ade Dimberline, Morgan Rees-Davies, Richard Ingle, Melvyn Rawlinson | Written and Directed by Steve Lawson
Independent Midlands filmmaker Steve Lawson, who has been exploring rather familiar horror characters in the likes of Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing, Ripper Untold and Jekyll & Hyde, is back behind the camera exploring another familiar tale. This time around he’s reaching into the literature of old to explore not another well-worn horror story but a rather more swash-buckling affair with The Fourth Musketeer.
Told entirely in flashback, yes for some odd reason writer and director Steve Lawson decided to frame his entire film in a flashback, The Fourth Musketeer sees an older, wiser D’Artagnan (Jonathan Hansler) recall the story of how he joined the Musketeers to a young man, Phillipe (Nathan McGowran), who himself wants to become a Musketeer – by defeating D’Artagnan in battle.

The 2016 blockbuster, Ms Dhoni: The Untold Story, was released four years ago on this day. The film starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput was a huge hit upon release, and on Wednesday fans took to social media to recall how beautifully the late actor had portrayed the role of the former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic.
"#OnThisDay 2016, Ms Dhoni The Untold story released. We all went in as Dhoni Fan came out as Sushant Fan. Miss you Sushant," a user tweeted.

Take two of why I wanted to write about Bigfoot: Bigfoot has an uncommon amount of myth malleability.
This is related, of course, to his unknowability; the strokes of his mythology are broad and vague, so he can be made and molded to slip into essentially any story vaguely set neat a forest. There are very few parameters that must be set and even fewer rules that must be abided by or addressed in order for that character to work successfully in a piece of art. Certainly, as before, many monsters can be said to exhibit aspects of this elasticity, but again Bigfoot finds his unknowability to be crucial to his difference and uniqueness. Bigfoot exists essentially without context. His being is not defined, and as such he exhibits no strong predilection or resistance to changes. An empty vessel never overflows when water is placed inside, and it has no reaction to substances it holds.

Considering they're the best-known cryptids in history, the humanoids known variously as Sasquatch, Bigfoot, Yeti, the Abominable Snowman and so forth don't get much respect in modern cinema. While thousands of hours of film and video have been dedicated to these elusive man-beasts, there's something about the big dude that makes it nearly impossible for filmmakers to take him seriously, or even tell a semi-competent story about him. It's certainly not for a lack of trying; there have been nearly a hundred Bigfoot and Yeti movies released since the '50s. Old-fashioned giant monster romps, found-footage and slasher entries, feel-good family dramas, romantic comedies... even porno flicks. So why are nearly all of them so damn goofy? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy these insane interpretations; in fact, the crazier they get, the more I dig 'em. So to honor this dubious cinematic legacy, here are two dozen of...

Monster Brawl
Directed by Jesse T. Cook
Written by Jesse T. Cook
2011, Canada
Last night, writer/director Jesse T. Cook had the honour of being the first Canadian filmmaker to open the Toronto After Dark Film Festival with his smackdown horror-comedy Monster Brawl.
In the spirit of pay-per-view wrestling and the Mortal Kombat video game, Monster Brawl brings some of the most iconic monsters together for no other reason than to bludgeon them in the ring. In addition to Frankenstein and the Wolfman, the brawlers include: the Mummy, Zombie Man, Cyclops, Lady Vampire, Swamp Gut and Witch Bitch — all of whom harbour grudges and talk smack to the camera.
To say that Monster Brawl is a fanboy’s dream come true is an understatement. Cook guarantees his film’s mass appeal simply by fusing together several popular genres: horror, wrestling and gaming. Moreover, he assembles an eclectic cast to further...

Monster Brawl
Written and Directed by Jesse T. Cook
(2011) Canada
Fantasia imdb
It is only too appropriate that the World Premiere of Monster Brawl at Fantasia was presented by Tony Timpone, former editor of Fangoria Magazine, because if any film could be described as inspired by arguments from Fangoria it’s Monster Brawl. Or even arguments made before Fangoria even existed. The spiritual predecessor to virtually all genre publications was Forry Ackerman’s Famous Monsters of Filmland and one of the eternal arguments that raged in that publication (and its heirs) has always been: Which monster is stronger? Which monster is better? Which monster would win in a fight?
That is a question that has sold movie tickets since 1943 when Universal put out Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and continues to sell movie tickets to this day, witness two Aliens vs. Predator films, a Freddy vs. Jason film and even a Freddy vs. Jason vs.

You’d be hard pressed to find any guy who hasn’t grown up with professional wrestling. Taking this mentality, and really playing up the theatrics is director Jesse T. Cook in his latest film, Monster Brawl, which will clearly answer the burning question: Which monster is the King of the (Undead) Ring?
A Cyclops, Witch Bitch, The Mummy, Lady Vampire, and more all duke it out in the flavor of those 1960s El Santo pictures, but far more cooler. Killer Film caught up with the director for a quick chat as he is finishing up the film, to talk about monsters and wrestling, as they go hand-in-hand in what is shaping up to be a fan favorite.

Writer/director Jesse Thomas Cook’s upcoming horror/comedy Monster Brawl has "guilty pleasure" written all over it. The premise is simple. This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.
Predators
Directed by Nimród Antal
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.
Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

I didn't have high hopes for this movie. Any movie that has the name of the monster (Sasquatch) and location (Mountain) in the title usually conveys all you need to know about the film. But Sasquatch Mountain defies the usual genre conventions by having little to do with Sasquatch. What Sasquatch Mountain is really about is fatherhood. It begins with home video-style footage of Harlan Knowles (Lance Henriksen) arriving on a deserted highway to fix his stranded wife's car. She captures a Sasquatch on tape, only to be subsequently killed in a car accident. Flash forward...
