Did you know that the Gorn have lips?
Evidence presented in the 1967 "Star Trek" episode "Arena" might stand counter to that assertion, as the mask worn by (alternately) Bobby Clark, Gary Combs, and Bill Blackburn didn't have an articulated jaw or mouth. Indeed, the Gorn mask has been widely giggled at by Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike. The fight between the Gorn captain and Captain Kirk (William Shatner) is usually considered broadly campy, what with its stiffness and slowness.
But the Gorn -- an aggressive reptilian species -- actually do speak their own language. In "Arena," the Gorn captain (voiced by Ted Cassidy) spoke to Captain Kirk using a miniature, hand-held translation device. He explained that the Federation had set up a colony on Cestus III, which was unknowingly a Gorn world. The Gorn, rather than negotiate or file a complaint, merely laid waste to the colony and killed everyone living there.

Depeche Mode, the post-synth-pop group that made sensual broodiness a part of the mainstream, have returned with a new album titled Memento Mori. You can stream it below.
Memento Mori, their first album in five years, is also their official return after the loss of founding member Andrew “Fletch” Fletcher in 2022. Their 15th record and much like many others of the last few years, Memento Mori is rooted in the unexpectedly free time the pandemic granted. The loneliness it bred thematically strings the tracks together, along with some more characteristically defining tropes of the group, like the binary between depuration and delight, and delusive devotion. Production by James Ford and Marta Salogni was key in communicating such rich yet glum atmospheres.
In an interview with Zane Lowe from Apple Music 1, Dave Gahan touched on how minimalism was a part of the group’s approach to the new album. “Some of...

As Depeche Mode ready themselves for a North American tour in support of their new album, Memento Mori (out Friday), they stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform the album’s lead single, “Ghosts Again.” Martin Gore played the song’s melancholy melody on a hollow body guitar until singer Dave Gahan, dressed in a sparkly blazer and with glitter around his eyes, started crooning the song’s lyrics all leading up to the chorus, “We’ll be ghosts again.” Drummer Christian Eigner gave some added swing to the song’s rhythm,...

In “Ghosts Again,” one of many introspective moments on Depeche Mode’s 15th full-length, Memento Mori, Dave Gahan croons, “Time is fleeting.” This is not a new revelation, but the tranquility in his voice feels fresh. More than four decades have passed since the group formed as a quartet of mostly teens eager to immerse themselves in the nascent synth-pop culture with party anthems like “Just Can’t Get Enough.” Now, with only Gahan and Martin Gore left in the lineup following the death last year of keyboardist Andy “Fletch” Fletcher,...

Depeche Mode, the pioneering ‘80s U.K. technopop band, has long had a strong following in Los Angeles — thanks to their exposure on local alternative stalwart Kroq — and now they’re proving a favorite of film and TV creative executives.
The group, consisting of co-founders Martin Gore and vocalist Dave Gahan after the death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, is on a roll following its 2020 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they were introduced by Charlize Theron, who called them “the soundtrack of my life.”
Depeche Mode’s new Mute/Columbia Records album, “Memento Mori,” comes out March 24, their first since 2017’s “Spirit” and 15th overall, which will be followed by a year-long tour that launches March 23 in Sacramento and includes a show at L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28 and four concluding area shows in December, two apiece at Kia and Crypto.com Arena.

Depeche Mode have shared the opening track from their upcoming LP Memento Mori, “My Cosmos Is Mine.”
On the heels of the pulsing synth-pop first single, “Ghosts Again,” “My Cosmos Is Mine” is darker, slower, and more foreboding than its predecessor and kicks off the band’s first album without late keyboardist Andy “Fletch” Fletcher on a somber note.
“Don’t play with my world / Don’t mess with my mind / Don’t question my spacetime / My cosmos is mine,” Dave Gahan sings near-monotone on the atmospheric track. “Don’t...

Depeche Mode are back with a new single called “My Cosmos Is Mine,” another sample of their upcoming album Memento Mori.
“My Cosmos Is Mine” begins with some ominous, distant-sounding drums before Dave Gahan’s vocals come in soaked with reverb: “Don’t play with my world/ Don’t mess with my mind/ Don’t question my spacetime/ My cosmos is mine.” Sounds like it could be directed at a single person, but the track quickly becomes more broad as it morphs into a protest anthem. “No final breaths/ No senseless deaths,” Gahan sings near the song’s end, after he begs for “no war” and “no fear.”
“My Cosmos Is Mine” has a bit more of an industrial influence than Depeche Mode’s typical synth-pop. It’s not exactly the feel-good hit of the summer, but they certainly pull off its foreboding and dystopian aesthetic. Listen to the song below.

Is Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 9 the first time Criminal Minds has been without a quote?
Elias said, "The Latin phrase Memento Mori translates to 'Remember that you must die.' Roman slaves whispered it to their generals to keep them from being consumed by hubris." That's as close as we got to a quote this week.
It fit the episode perfectly.
If they hadn't started the episode with that reflection of hubris, it would have been difficult to stomach the good guys' mistakes, which led to Rossi in a bunker and Tyler getting shot.
Those two men went above and beyond hubris in their quest to prove something to themselves.
As expected, Rossi's meet-n-greet with Sydney Voit was bountiful.
Sydney didn't have to lie about whether the man at the hardware store was her husband. She was so thrown that she just wanted to know where it was.
But before we get into that,...

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 4
If there’s one thing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is trying to make clear, it’s that hanging out in the Star Trek universe isn’t safe. While The Next Generation and Voyager may have had the reputation for looking and feeling a little too cozy, Strange New Worlds continues the grittier vibe from Discovery, which also references the rough-and-tumble nature of The Original Series.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode 4, “Memento Mori,” is its darkest episode yet, with a ton of nods to The Original Series, the classic films, and an interesting sideways nod to Lower Decks. Here’s every Easter egg and reference we caught while the Enterprise faced off with the Gorn for the first time…

The title of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 4, "Memento Mori," translates from the Latin to "remember that you [have to] die" and, like the High Valyrian saying on Game of Thrones, "Valar morghulis," it sets a tone of grim understanding and underscores the fragility of life.
While the encounter in the brown dwarf is rife with the suspense of the best wartime submarine dramas, it's interesting to note that we never see the Gorn onscreen because -- as horror aficionados know -- our imaginations are much scarier than anything we see on screen.
Furthermore, a deep dive into the narrative structure of the script finds that the external conflict's solution is buried in LA'an's internal one. Her stoic exterior shelters a chaotic and tragic mess of memories and emotions that she's only begun to face.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 4
Another week has passed, and another knockout episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is officially in the books. At the risk of sounding like an effusive fangirl—which let’s face it, I think I might be at this point—is there anything this show can’t do? Hopeful adventure? Check. In-depth character exploration? Check. And now, a high octane, tension-filled horror fest, that manages to reinvent a classic Star Trek: The Original Series villain as something truly menacing and monstrous while allowing almost every one of our favorites a moment of true, genuine bravery in the face of their fears.
Reader, I truly just love this show so much. And there’s so much that’s awful in the world right now—I’m writing this review on the night of the Uvalde...

It’s not often that animation uses elements of horror to tell a moral story. For director Paul O’Flanagan, Memento Mori was a way to bridge his interests of the macabre with a graphic novel art style and combine them into one animated short film. Inspired by graphic novel artists like Patric Reynolds, O’Flanagan managed to use a similar art style to accentuate the gothic Victorian setting with a muted palette reminiscent of the era.
In Memento Mori, a self-serving post-mortem photographer is confronted by his past when the corpse of a young woman arrives for a portrait. To give the viewer a better impression of the main character Huxley, voiced by Mark Gatiss, the film is narrated by the character as he writes a letter to a prospective new hire. As he documents his work process in a scientific and clinical manner, his reality become altered as his guilt weighs upon him.

Newen Connect, the distribution branch of Newen, the Paris-based international production and distribution company owned by French’s biggest TV network, the TF1 Group, has boarded a bevy of upscale international drama series, including “Lost Luggage,” “Memento Mori,” Christian” and “Agent K.” The Paris-based company will help finance and sell internationally these shows.

Lamb of God’s upcoming deluxe edition of their self-titled album will feature a typically punishing bonus track, “Ghost Shaped People.” Frontman Randy Blythe asks, “What will you believe? Who will you betray? What’s the cost of victory?” in the song’s chorus, which is sandwiched between the band’s signature cataclysm of chugging guitars and anvil-smashing drums.

“‘Checkmate’ brings together all the components of the Lamb of God sound that we’ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band,” guitarist Mark Morton said in a statement. “Re-energized and reignited, this is Lamb of God 2020. We’ve never been more excited.”

After that dramatic journey seen during The 100 Season 6 Episode 6, Murphy's story has never felt more real.
His choice of actually going through with helping Josephine put him against some of his family, specifically Bellamy, and it also got him a reward. Josephine gave Murphy (and Emori) the Sanctum chips so that they could upload their minds and live forever as the Primes do.
To some, that may seem like a conflicting decision, but to Murphy, it may be the only reasonable one.
Taking some time out to talk with us, Richard Harmon shares his view on Murphy's decisions and what that could mean for the relationship he shares with his family. He also looked forward with the character for Season 6 and offered some insight on some of the scenes that we have witnessed so far.

What can you tease about Murphy's arc for the remainder of the season?...

Nothing will ever be the same is only as true as the number of times you say it.
And yet it feels like nothing is the way it was, not when the characters are mourning at a time when they have to believe in the unexpected.
During The 100 Season 6 Episode 6. Murphy helps Josephine to various results. Abby is convinced to make nightblood, once again not knowing about Clarke, in the name of Kane.
Meanwhile, Bellamy is a bomb just waiting to explode in the name of his fallen soulmate. But he ends up pulling back, having to reveal to the others and Madi that they are now without Clarke Griffin.
Then there is Octavia, whose hand turns out to be the key to the Anomaly that Xavier is connected to.
But there is nothing that beats Josephine going to sleep for the first time, and Clarke waking up in her...

We left off The 100 Season 6 Episode 5 with a mix of revelations and table-turning decisions.
Josephine had to reveal that she wasn't Clarke to Bellamy, which turned into him being tranquilized in a cliffhanger ending. She decided to seek out Murphy, willingly revealing her identity to convince him to join her side in the name of immortality.
That brings it all to one focal point, whether Murphy takes her up on the deal and what this means for the rest of the people who don't know what happened with Clarke.
Oh, and we can't forget about Bellamy.
Meanwhile, Octavia gets caught up in the aftermath of something in the forest, literally coming out with an injured hand. Diyoza isn't clued in yet, but their search for Gabriel looks like it could get cut short with that reveal.

The 100 only recently returned for its sixth season on The CW, but the network has already renewed the popular sci-fi drama for a seventh.
There's even more good news:
The 100 Season 7 will span 16 episodes, taking the series to its 100th episode, according to showrunner, Jason Rothenberg.
"16! #the100 #100ofThe100," he shared on Twitter on Wednesday, confirming a rumor that had been doing the rounds on social media.
The episode order is an increase of three episodes as opposed to the previous three seasons.

The 100 Season 2 and The 100 Season 3 each had 16 episodes, but those seasons started much earlier than what the series does now.
The 100 Season 5 and The 100 Season 6 had April premieres, but the network is actively looking to have more content on the schedule around the year.
As such, this increase does not suggest a much earlier premiere at this moment in time.
