The Tuxedo, 23 MÁRCIUS 2009
4/10
Author: Jackson Booth-Millard from United Kingdom

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

The lead star and the concept of the film are what drew me to see it. Basically Jimmy Tong (Jackie Chan) gets the job of chauffeuring for millionaire Clark Devlin (Jason Isaacs), who is actually a super spy with many gadgets. It is after Devlin has an accident, ending up in hospital, and unknowingly Jimmy tries on Devlin's tuxedo, discovering it gives extraordinary powers to anyone who wears it. It also thrusts Jimmy into the secret spy world with danger, international intrigue and espionage, and with agent Delilah 'Del' Blaine (I Know What You Did Last Summer's Jennifer Love Hewitt) mistaking him for Devlin. There is a plot to kill everyone on Earth by giving them a specially developed water that will dehydrate all who drink it, and it is up to Jimmy and Del to stop it. Also starring Debi Mazar as Steena, Ritchie Coaster as Dietrich Banning, Peter Stormare as Dr. Simms, Mia Cottet as Cheryl and Romany Malco as Mitch. There are some highlights provided by the special effects for the suit, e.g. dancing and singing like James Brown (who cameos), and a couple of not too bad fight scenes, but this isn't the funniest or most thrilling film ever, but you can't complain too much with Chan involved. Okay!

The Tuxedo, 21 MÁRCIUS 2009

Strangely, it's the moments before and after the eponymous tuxedo appears where the film is most successful. The first act is hugely enjoyable in fact; consistently laugh-out-loud funny. Jason Isaacs makes a strong impression as the Bond-like secret agent who employs Jackie Chan as his driver. In fact, he bears a strong resemblance to how Ian Fleming imagined Bond in the novels and seeing him in such a role makes you wonder if he wouldn't have been a good choice for the role after Pierce Brosnan left.

But I digress. Once Chan slips on Isaacs' super-tux things get very silly, but not in a good way. It seems to be aimed squarely at the younger crowd, yet there is a nasty level of detail in a couple of horror moments that are probably unsuitable for young kiddies.

The special effects are poor but not too distracting, the performances are about right for the target audience but adults may find them grating. Jennifer Love Hewitt does the best work, throwing herself into her role with aplomb, even if at times it appears she's trying too hard. Her chemistry with Chan is adequate - again, you have to bear in mind this is a kid's film - although Chan lacks his usual charm.

In short it's not as dreadful as you may have heard. Kids won't think it's the best film they've ever seen, but will probably enjoy it even if they find the plot challenging, but that's about all it has going for it.

If you've got nothing better to do, this wouldn't be the worst thing to watch., 19 JÚLIUS 2008
6/10

As with all of Jackie's recent(ish) American films, wirework threatens to render this one unwatchable. Fortunately, Jackie is still charmingly adorable as the hapless Jimmy Tong and the gorgeous Jennifer Love Hewitt as Del Blaine can quite easily hold the attention of the straight male audience.

The dialogue is not too bad and JLH's performance is pretty good, especially her impersonation of the air headed bit player, Cheryl. Jackie's delivery of his own lines is what you'd expect in an English speaking film, but he was still funny. Of course, not as funny as his performance would have been had it been a cantonese speaking film in which his comedic style is, understandably, more natural.

Action-wise, this film is pretty much a dud and leaves the Jackie Chan fan with an urge to rewatch Project A or Armor of God for a dose of the good old days to wash away the sour taste of disappointment. Still, its not as bad as The Medallion.

And any film with Bob Balaban in it can't be entirely bad (I'm a big fan of his as well). To be honest though, its not a great film, but its not a terrible one either. It is saved somewhat just by Chan's presence and JLH's performance and some very nice dresses. Probably not worth paying money to see, but if its on tele and you've nothing better to do, its a decent time waster.

Not Bad, 30 MÁJUS 2008

Jimmy Tong (Jackie Chan) is a taxi driver notorious for his speed and ability to get his customer anywhere in the least amount of time, usually without too many illegal methods. His reputation soon lands him a job as the personal chauffeur of the mysterious but wealthy Clark Devlin.

Jimmy does not really know what his new boss' job is, but Devlin's friendly nature, imperturbable demeanor, and willingness to offer Jimmy advice wins Jimmy over and the two become pals. Jimmy has no idea that Devlin is a spy and when an attempt to kill Devlin partially succeeds, sending Devlin into a coma, Jimmy ends up accidentally wearing a rather unusual tuxedo of Devlin's. The tuxedo is a gadget capable of granting its wearer special abilities (including martial arts, the ability to dance, active camouflage, and being able to walk on walls) which Jimmy must use to stop the terrorist group responsible for Devlin's hospitalization. He joins genius scientist, Del Blaine (Jennifer Love Hewitt) to stop them. At first, she thinks Jimmy is irritating, but in the end when he saves her and the world, Del Blaine falls in love with him and they go for coffee.

Fun Movie, 17 MÁJUS 2008
7/10

I don't see myself as a Jackie Chan fan yet i watch almost all of his movies that was the main reason why i saw the Tuxedo.

I was surprised to see that Tuxedo got such low rating.

I now its not a classic or anything...but it doesn't aim for that. It's a fun movie with lots of fun stuff.

Jackie Chan does his moves, there are fun gadgets...and a pretty lady (Jennifer Love Hewitt) what else do you need to make it a fun movie ? :) I watched the movie several times...you will love certain scenes.

If you like Jackie Chan...or action/comedy movies...this one is definitely a good way to pass a few hours :)

Great action film with Jackie, 7 FEBRUÁR 2007
Author: peterwang-1 from United States

Is this an Oscar film? No. Artistic? No. Great script? Uh-uh.

Huge fun for young fans and old? Yes! I love Jackie Chan movies because Jackie Chan loves making movies, and his energy and vigor are clearly up on the screen. I think Jackie & Jennifer work better than Jackie & Chris (although I think Chris Tucker's one of the funniest actors ever) because Jackie and Jennifer have a similar energy and laidback style.

I also love the wonderful dynamics of action that Jackie is the master of. Great human being as well.

The James Bond guy is a great actor (Patriot) and I hope he works in American movies more often. Very cute movie! Something you can take your 10-year-old kid brother to without worrying. 8 out of 10.

Disappointing Hollywood-ized Chan., 6 FEBRUÁR 2007
3/10
Author: Space_Mafune from Newfoundland, Canada

A hard luck cabbie, who just cannot seem to catch a break, named Jimmy Tong (Jackie Chan) is hired to be the limousine driver for top secret super CSA agent/spy extraordinaire Clark Devlin when he impresses another CSA agent named Steena (Debi Mazar) with his fast driving expertise. However, when Devlin winds up gravely injured following an explosion, he asks Jimmy to take over his assignment and tells him to wear his specially equipped tuxedo. This tuxedo as it turns out isn't ordinary in the least. In fact, it's a technological marvel capable of providing its user with whatever skill is desired, whether it be fighting, dancing or gun assembly, just by selecting it from a fancy wrist-watch also included in the outfit. Yes, Jimmy Tong finds himself suddenly thrust into a new world of excitement by assuming the Clark Devlin role. Eventually he is paired up with a new CSA agent out to prove her worth in Del Blaine (Jennifer Love-Hewitt). Together they are to bring down whatever corrupt scheme of world domination one Dietrich Banning (Ritchie Coaster), head of a bottled water empire, may be planning. Only can Jimmy find the confidence within himself to get the job done?

In many ways, this is something of a poor imitation of the Pink Panther films, only dumbed down even more to appeal to a mass audience with such an emphasis on not offending any sensibility, it likely won't appeal to many in reality. As was done with the Pink Panther films, director Donovan here tries to blend action with comedy with the emphasis being on the physical comedy itself. You would think given the involvement of Jackie Chan, it would be natural fit but this one only offers up disappointment. The fights are uninspired and forgettable with too much wire work. The attempts at humor either fall flat or are outright unfunny or they play things way too safe. Jennifer Love-Hewitt is terribly miscast as the heroine. Not only is she thoroughly unconvincing in her role but her character never comes across as anything but perpetually bitchy. This movie's best scenes actually involve Jackie Chan doing uncharacteristic stuff like dancing and performing on stage and his early cab and limousine driver scenes. The theme of self-confidence could have been used better but here is one of the film's better elements. Jason Issacs brief Bond-like Clark Devlin appearance also proves very entertaining and is much too short-lived. In the end, this just isn't the Jackie Chan or even Jennifer Love-Hewitt fans will want to see.

Formulaic Jackie Chan movie lives up to previous films., 25 SZEPTEMBER 2002
7/10
Author: allan-36 from Toronto, Canada

Predictable, contrived, hokey, yet THE TUXEDO entertains. Jackie Chan delivers another easy-to-go mix of action, lovely women and laughs that will attract filmgoers of all ages. Jennifer Love Hewitt is a good foil (funny, smart and sexy) for the amiable Chan. Without giving away too much of the plot, the tuxedo transports our Ordinary Joe Chan into a wild adventure (something to do with corrupt water). A surprise cameo by James Brown is a plus. Take the family. Take a date. Or rent the DVD.

This is another underrated Jackie Chan film, that i enjoyed quite a bit with fun performances all around!. The wire work is pretty cool, and i really dug the special effects, plus Jackie Chan is simply amazing in this!. Jackie Chan and Jennifer Love Hewitt have great chemistry together, and it has some cool fight scenes, plus the story was pretty cool. The finale was really cool, and Jackie's awesome sense of humor really helped, plus the ending was hilarious!. All the characters were great, and i really started to get into it near the end, plus i though Hewitt's character was cool (in my opinion!). Granted it's nowhere near Jackie's best, however it's a lot of fun, and feel it's been treated rather harshly by critics, plus Jackie had some pretty cool lines!. This is another underrated Jackie Chan film, that i enjoyed quite a bit, with fun performances all around and i highly recommend it!. The Direction is very good. Kevin Donovan does a very good job here, with good camera work, stylish angles, and really keeping the film at a fun pace!. The Acting is excellent!. Jackie Chan is AMAZING as always, and is amazing here, he is very likable seemed to be having lots of fun, had very good chemistry with Hewitt, had a great sense of humor and was a lot of fun to watch! (Jackie Rules!). Jennifer Love Hewitt is STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!, and does great here, she was a little obnoxious at first however she turns out to be very likable as i really liked her character!, she did awesome. Jason Isaacs is good in his role i liked him lots. Debi Mazar does her usual thing, and does it well. Ritchie Coaster is decent as the main villain and was somewhat menacing. Rest of the cast do good. Overall i highly recommend it!. ***1/2 out of 5

Amused and humorous film with super Jackie Chan, 11 OKTÓBER 2004
5/10
Author: ma-cortes

The movie concerns to a chauffeur(Jackie Chan )who hiding himself of a secret agent(Jason Isaacs) wears his tuxedo with extraordinary powers.

Jackie Chan and other agent(Jennifer Lowe Hewitt)will must to take on against a villain who's wanting rule over the world.

Since start until finishing the humor and action packed is interminable. In the film there are intrigue, tongue in check, pursuits, frenetic action and is amount bemused. The movie didn't fail in the box office and neither was a truly success.

Action Jackie Chan is by specials effects to difference others films that he is the stunt. Jennifer Hewitt is pretty beautiful making with Jackie Chan a type of ¨Buddy movie¨film. Final confrontation between starring and the baddies is breathtaking and astounding. The picture will like Jackie Chan fans.

Rating. 5,5/10 nice.
