Anime director Masakazu Hishida, known for his work in Yashahime, InuYasha, Ensemble Star!, recently gave an interview to Mantan Web talking about the currently airing anime adaptation of Taejun Pak and Kim Junghyun’s Viral Hit webtoon.
Hishida, who is currently helming the series, shared insights into the adaptation process of webtoons into anime series in the interview, where he emphasized the unique compatibility between the storytelling of webtoon with that of anime storyboard structures.
While this might not always be the case with other webtoon to anime adaptations, Hishida felt that unlike traditional manga, which often relies on double-page spreads, the one-way scrolling of webtoon is more compatible with anime storyboard structures.
He then went on to back the statement with an example and also highlighted the seamless flow and continuity of storytelling facilitated by this format, likening it to the passage of time in animated sequences.
“It’s completely different from traditional manga.

The proper implementation of the concept of legacy is a challenging affair in Shounen manga, as is seen in some of the immensely popular titles like Naruto and Dragonball Z. Most often, the weight of the fan favorite iconic characters burdens their legacy immensely, thereby hindering their growth as individual characters. Thankfully, that’s not the case in Shaman King: Flowers, a spin-off and sequel to the original Shaman King created by Hiroyuki Takei, that focuses on the future of the series by charting the journey of Hana Asakura, the son of legendary shaman duo Yoh Asakura and Anna Kyoyama. The series relies on the world-building established in the original series but doesn’t let go of the sense of individuality it has managed to create for itself.
The first twelve episodes of Shaman King: Flowers mainly work as an introduction to Hana’s world, bringing in new characters—legacies...

One would think that mangakas responsible for creating one of the world’s most known forms of entertainment would be wealthy, which is true for Masashi Kishimoto too. However, he surprisingly still does not make it to the top 5 list of the wealthiest mangakas ever.

The Isekai genre has been getting quite traction in mainstream media over the past few years, mainly driven by the rise in the popularity of light novels and web novels that largely follow this trajectory. Here are some of the best isekai anime ever made. Some of these are old and classic, while others have that typical contemporary isekai storyline incorporated into them.

Let’s be clear, there’s no doubt that you’ve watched anime at some point in your life. You probably just didn’t know it was anime.
If you’re wondering what exactly constitutes as anime, the term specifically refers to animation created and produced in Japan. And the stories usually originate from a manga or video game series. But today, anime has grown and expanded outside of Japan, inspiring other parts of the world to launch their own versions of the more than 100-year-old craft.
Whether it was “Pokémon” or catching Goku on the next episode of “Dragon Ball Z,” anime has always been there. And anime has inspired live-action films from the likes of the Wachowskis’ “Speed Racer” and Michael B. Jordan’s “Creed III.”

As Taylor Swift once said, “August slipped away like a moment in time,” and August 2023 has been no different. Summer starts to come to a close at the end of August as kids head back to school, Labor Day looms and folks soak up those last few days before the official start of fall on Sept. 21. Netflix will say goodbye to some important titles at the end of this month as well.
The majority of films leaving Netflix will leave on the last day, so there is still time to squeeze some in before the month fully ends. Those leaving the streamer Aug. 31 include “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Mean Girls,” the “Open Season” films, “Paranormal Activity,” “The Ring” and “Sleepless in Seattle” among others.

Is it beginning to feel a little like 2020 to anyone else? As the major Hollywood studios continue to refuse even entertaining the completely reasonable requests from the striking actors' and writers' guilds, they've already started pushing back films that were previously set to arrive in the next couple of months, with more delays potentially on the way. Meanwhile, Netflix is doing better than ever -- although, in this case, it's thanks to their deeply unpopular but undeniably successful crackdown on password sharing and not because everyone is stuck at home with nothing else to do but finally stream those films and TV series they've been meaning to catch up on.
Speaking of which (how's that for a segue?), if you've been planning to watch any of the films or shows leaving Netflix in August 2023, now's the time to get cracking. There's nothing departing this month too likely to vanish completely into the streaming void.

The story of Superman has been told countless times across different media, from the Zack Snyder and Richard Donner films to multiple animated shows, a CW live-action and much more. So when it came time to tell a new tale of the Man of Steel in Adult Swim’s 10-episode “My Adventures with Superman,” there was one note from the studios that became a guiding light for producers Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher, the latter told IndieWire: “Don’t do this stuff the way we’ve seen it before. And the look of the show itself signals that it’s a different take, and to younger audiences, it signals that this is a different version of the character.”
Indeed, while the show feels intrinsically Superman, “My Adventures with Superman” is also unlike any other version of the character. There have been many animated versions of Superman, but “My Adventures with Superman...

So many great stories in history start out with the key players hating each other — as it is in Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” streaming on Netflix in April. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) meet via parking lot bump turned action-movie car chase, their lives connecting and their road rage lingering in weeks and months after the incident. In reviewing the series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that “’Beef’ does a fine job balancing Amy and Danny’s practical intelligence and impractical passions; their bitterness toward the other driver ebbs and flows as their personal lives better or worsen, and it’s in these moments that the half-hour drama thrives.”

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.

HBO Max has a lot to offer in August, with titles to look forward to including the premiere of a brand new Seth Rogen movie called “An American Pickle” on Aug. 6, and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film “The Dark Knight” out Aug. 1.
The nascent streaming service also shares content with HBO, with new films coming like “Jojo Rabbit” out Aug. 1, “Birds of Prey” out Aug. 15, “Richard Jewell” out Aug. 8, and “Queen & Slim,” out Aug. 22. The upcoming series “Lovecraft County,” which mixes fact and fantasy and takes place in 1950s Jim Crow America, arrives Aug. 16.
Leaving throughout the month include, tragically, all eight “Harry Potter” films, which will be gone after Aug. 25. Other absolute classics like “Good Will Hunting,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and both “Kill Bill” movies will be gone after Aug. 31, so watch them while you can.

HBO Max is continuing to pull from Warner Bros.’ incredible back catalogue of movies, with August bringing a huge number of new titles to the streaming service. With over 130 new pieces of content, the list of upcoming arrivals encompasses classic films of all kinds, from Oscar winners to comedies, horrors to family pics and, of course, tons of blockbusters.
A highlight for many users will probably be the glut of Batman films coming to HBO Max at the start of the month. Every cinematic outing for the Caped Crusader from 1989’s Batman starring Michael Keaton to 2008’s The Dark Knight with Christian Bale (which just celebrated its 12th anniversary this weekend) are going up on the site. Sticking in Gotham, both seasons of Harley Quinn are also coming to HBO Max, following their original release on DC Universe.

InuYasha is an anime series that effectively mixes together the action and romance genres into the entertaining story of Inuyasha, a half-demon who is on an important mission of redemption. Inuyasha’s journey puts him in the orbit of Kagome, a normal high school student, and an important bond is formed between the two of them.
The demon-slaying anime series comes from the prolific Rumiko Takahashi and lasted for nearly 200 episodes between two series, as well as four films. A New Feudal Fairy Tale Begins. “Inuyasha” production team Sunrise reunite to create the animation series “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.” Will Eisner Hall-of-Famer Rumiko Takahashi also joins the team as main character design.
Today, Viz Media confirms Rights to the digital streaming, Est, and home video of “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon” for North and Latin American territories.
In “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon,” the daughters of Sesshomaru and Inuyasha set out on a journey transcending time. Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.
Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku.

First published in 1996, Rumiko Takahashi's manga series Inuyasha follows a modern-day schoolgirl who is transported back in time to the Middle Ages (the Sengoku period), where she teams up with a half-dog/demon and enjoys many thrilling adventures. The manga was adapted into two anime series, broadcast from 2000-2004 and 2009-2010, and gained additional popularity in the U.S. when it aired on Adult Swim from 2002 through 2015. Japanese production company Sunrise is to revive the iconic “Inuyasha” anime franchise and deliver a series “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.” Viz Media has come on board to handle digital streaming rights, electronic sell-through, and home video in North America and Latin American territories.
Most of the Japanese film industry is currently shut down as a result of the nationwide anti-coronavirus lockdown and social distancing rules. And no details of the production schedule or delivery date were available.
The “Inuyasha” franchise first started as a critically acclaimed manga series, for which the English version was featured regularly on The New York Times Bestsellers list throughout the 2000s. The anime adaptation aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block for over 11 years nearing 200 episodes. It has also spawned four successful feature film adaptations, but the franchise ended in 2010.
The original creator Rumiko Takahashi returns to handle character design. The series is to be directed by Teruo Sato.

There’s been a growing trend of some of the most popular anime from the ’90s and early 2000s returning with legacy sequels and modern reboots. It’s an exciting time for anime and this approach has brought back audiences who may have wandered away but are curious to get continuations to some of the favorite series from their youth. InuYasha, an anime that aired nearly 200 episodes since its debut during the height of the anime invasion of America, is the latest series to get such a treatment. InuYasha concluded back in 2010, but Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of the series has just announced, Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, a sequel series that will center around the children of the characters from the original InuYasha.

As a devoted film and TV addict who enjoys watching anime as part of a balanced genre diet, I'm glad to hear that Crunchyroll, which already describes itself as "the world's most popular anime brand, is adding to its massive programming offerings this week. This is all thanks to a a new distribution deal with Viz Media, and includes Death Note, a selection of Naruto films, and Vampire Knight, which launches today, as well as Inuyasha and Hikaru No Go, which will launch later this week. It's good timing, since the Fall anime simulcast season is wrapping up soon. And who wants to deal with family, friends, and/or loved ones over the holidays without a little anime to defuse tense situations? While this is not...

I was toying with the idea of calling this list "Ephemeral Pleasures," but if there's anything I've learned in my decades of music fandom, it's that the silliest stuff can show surprising durability thanks to the tenaciousness of nostalgia. And "silly" certain describes three of these songs.
As will quickly become clear, I find Asian pop music more alluring than most of the cliched bombast on American radio. There were many catchy songs I omitted because they were also supremely annoying. I suppose to some people even some of my picks here are annoying, but that's the thing about catchy songs: there's a fine line between pleasure and -- after sufficient repetition -- pain.
Note that though I tried to avoid overlap between this list and my best albums list that will soon follow, I had to include the #1 song.

Last week, North American anime distributor Viz Media began airing the first episode of the long awaited conclusion to Rumiko Takahashi’s hit series, Inuyasha. Appropriately titled “Inuyasha: The Final Act”, the series will run for 26 episodes, and finally bring the animated version of Takahashi’s beloved feudal fairy tale to a close. The first episode, “Naraku’s Heart”, aired Saturday in Japan and was streamed on Hulu with English subtitles, making this a near simultaneous release. Upcoming episodes will be released the same way, with new installments airing each Saturday.
Loyal fans won’t be disappointed. Right from the start, this looks and feels like vintage Inuyasha, with beautiful opening animation set to the sounds of Do As Infinity’s “Kimi ga Inai Mirai.” Dai are no strangers to Inuyasha soundtracks, having also done the second and fifth ending themes for the show, “Fukai Mori” and “Shinjitsu no Uta” respectively.
