SummerSlam is finally here! After all of those hot nights, kicks to the balls from future hall of famers and Demi Lovato videos, we’ve arrived at WWE’s second best show this weekend!
This week in wrestling, Dean Ambrose told us that “Luke Harper is like nothing we’ve ever seen in WWE before.” Really? Because the roster is full of heels who can’t back it up in the ring and lose 90% of the time. Or was he referring to his stained shirt? We also saw James Storm return to Impact this week…wait, he quit weeks ago and we’re still seeing him on TV?
Worst insult of the week? Take your pick. How about the returning Dolph Ziggler calling Rusev a “Bulgarian bonehead!” on Raw, or a “Bulgarian baboon” on SmackDown. Perhaps it was Big Show’s ill-conceived “Gender confused Jedi” dig at the Miz.

Former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan will be appearing on tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw in his home state of Washington. Raw takes place in Everett, Washington, which is about 30 miles from Seattle and Bryan is from Aberdeen, Washington.
There were reports on Monday afternoon that Bryan was backstage at the show, but it wasn’t a sure thing that he would be on Raw. Then WWE posted a photo on Instagram of Bryan arriving to Raw with his wife Brie Bella and they specifically wrote that he will be live on Raw.
It’s not known what Bryan might be doing on Raw, but he’s going to get a huge ovation from the “hometown” crowd.
Tonight on #Raw, from his home state, @bryanldanielson will be here Live! #YesYesYes

The road to SummerSlam continued this week on Smackdown with two matches being set up, while a lot of familiar faces missed the show because they were part of WWE’s tour of Australia.
Once again the biggest positive about Smackdown was that they had three matches that received over 10 minutes of in-ring time. There were only five matches on the show, so those three bouts were able to stand out more.
Most WWE performers are generally pretty good in the ring and if you give them time, they will usually deliver a quality match. Makes sense, right? Wrestling can be so simple sometimes.
Another thing about Smackdown that I like is that they don’t have a lot backstage segments and there usually isn’t an authority figure around either. It’s a simple wrestling show, but that also makes it seem inferior to Raw, which it clearly is.

Dean Ambrose is a rising star in WWE and now he’s going to be a movie star too. Variety reports that Ambrose (real name Jonathon Good) is going to star in an action movie called “Lockdown.” It’s the second action film that WWE Studios and Lionsgate are producing together as part of their six pack movie deal. The first movie in that deal was called Vendetta, which stars the Big Show and was filmed earlier this year.
Here’s a synopsis of the film: “Lockdown follows a police officer who finds himself trapped inside his own precinct and hunted after crooked cops stop at nothing to recover incriminating evidence of illegal activities against those closest to him.”
The story notes that production on the film starts this month. That probably means that Ambrose is going to be off live events for the foreseeable future although he could still appear on television.

From 1993 to 2002, The WWF/E King of the Ring was the next big pay-per-view show after WrestleMania, bridging the gap between The Showcase of the Immortals and SummerSlam. But The King of the Ring actually began in 1985 as a specialized tournament for WWF house show audiences. During it’s initial years, the crown was even defended in sanctioned WWF matches, changing hands/heads in one-on-one matches. Beginning in 1993 it became a stand-alone event, crowning a new king once a year on pay-per-view, until it ceased to be after the 2002 tournament. Since then, the tournament has come back infrequently, playing itself out on Raw and Smackdown in 2006, 2008, and lastly in 2010.
From the inception of the crown, 20 superstars- ten World Champions, nine Hall of Famers, and an unfortunate handful of duds in-between- have worn the crown. Some embraced the “king” title, incorporating it into their gimmick. Some won the tournament,...
