Solange Couto was the first actress to portray Cuca (the reptile witch) using her own expressions. Since always, Cuca was portrayed by an actress in a two-piece costume (head and body) with a trademark long tail. Solange used a rubber costume and an alligator-stylized make up and wig which gave Cuca an eerier, more evil, demonic look. Couto was cast for her unique laugh.
Isabelle Drummond is the first child actress to portray Emília the rag doll in almost two decades, this being her career debut. She was supposed to read for the part of Narizinho (the doll's owner), but decided to read Emília's and was cast.
The image of a colorful and cute Emília was created by the Rede Globo network. In the novels, she's described as a "clumsy" rag doll and is considerably arrogant and less sympathetic.
Canceled in 2007 due to poor ratings, when the show was on its third reboot, and every cast member from previous years had been replaced. Tatyane Goulart, an older actress, took over Isabelle Drummond's role as Emília.
Cuca's hunchback minion Pesadelo ("Nightmare", played by Leandro Léo ) is an original character and does not exist in the novels. However, due to his sudden popularity, the character was then made a regular.
